Funny, funny and very heartfelt touching on issues of mental health and life. The play was in the upper theatre which is a few flights up the spiral staircase. It was hot up there but the play was so good you didn't notice most of the time. In the lower level you can walk around and look at various costumes and admire the historical details of the building.

Saul Rubinek is at his finest and this play should be seen by the masses. It's a commentary about what is going on in the world today. It's a very important piece of art, and a very powerful and moving piece at that! You will be thinking about it long after it is done. I will be back to see other plays, as I found the caliber of acting and the storyline far exceeded my expectations.

I love this theatre- it has a great Shakespearean setup- it's a lowered stage (my fave format), rather than a raised stage. I must admit that I have not seen the BEST plays here, and have never even heard of this one before but it was recommended and tickets were less than 30$ (note- i'll pretty much see anything for less than 30$) WOWEE- I cannot recommend this musical more. It's got an amazing cast, everything was sung, a fairly serious topic done very tastefully with a range of very entertaining laughing moments and some serious tear-jerkers. This is a lower budget venue where there tends to be a range of performances some of them good and some of them bad- I suppose go on reputation because this particular musical was top notch. I would have easily paid twice as much as I did for this show. A definite must see!

I had no idea what to expect going in as this was our first time attending a production. The musical was so beautiful and I fell in love with the costumes, music, acting and set. It is akin to a Mirvish production for kids. I came out with a huge smile on my face! I cannot wait to see more performances at this fantastic live theatre venue. What a jewel for Toronto! This is a special place for kids and adults alike.

We loved every minute of it. They have QR codes you can scan to hear the music to accompany the art (so bring your phone). The only room for improvement would be to put the QR codes to the left of the art pieces so you can listen to it while you're passing by the art connected with the music). The artist did such a beautiful job! So many details and it was so neat to see places you have passed a million times made of paper. The kaleidoscopes were very pretty and a fun touch. I highly suggest checking this very covid friendly event out.

This was it…read more I grew up watching this movie, so when the musical came out, I've been meaning to see it, but it was on Broadway, in New York. Alas, they have dates for Toronto, July 8th to August 30th, 2015. Newsies transformed Ed Mirvish Theatre into the set of 1890s New York City, where boys and young men sell newspapers ("papes") to support themselves. This musical is as entertaining as the original movie. While fans of The Newsies movie (such as myself) may expect to sit at the theatre singing along to all the songs, a few new songs have been added to the musical that was not in the original movie and a few songs from the movie have been altered, so best to refrain from singing along. For anyone who has never seen the movie, this stage production will give you an urge to see the film after. Actors were fantastic. Doesn't matter if you've seen the movie or not, you'll fall in love with Crutchie. Choreography was done so well that some parts were even better than the movie. I'm especially impressed with the set design and their effective use of the stage. Adding vertical stage space by building multiple levels, it lets theatre-goers feel as though there are different sets. Go check it out before it leaves Toronto. It's fun for the entire family.

It was the rave reviews my friend James gave this production that enticed me to buy tickets and go. I had 3rd row from the front which I think added to the enjoyment. Sets were a bit minimalist and redundant but did the job, costumes and make up were well done. If you liked RENT, than you would most likely enjoy this show. We are fortunate to have access to so much live theatre in Toronto. I do miss Dancap, that's when theatre peaked in Toronto.

Ross Petty's latest (and unfortunately, his last as a performer) is a blast. Playing in the…read morebeautiful Elgin Theatre, it is not to be missed. I'll admit...I'm a bit biased when it comes to Ross' annual Christmas pantomime...I've been going to them for the last 5 years and have yet to be disappointed. This year lives up to the high bar he's set for bringing to the stage a children's classic, with a few current quips thrown in. This year, they've combined the stories of Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland into a mishmash of jokes, songs and stunning visuals (Peter Pan does indeed fly). Also this year, Ross himself is playing Captain Hook, which is a downer as he plays female villains better than, well, many female villains (think Glenn Close in 101 Dalmations). Ross does drag better than anyone....such camp, such venom...he nails a drag queen persona perfectly ! His exit (at the end of the show) was a brilliant end to his 20 years of leading a troupe of actors/dancers. He will be missed next year. The show itself is a bit confusing in the first act..as there's a myriad of characters to introduce and a story to develop...however the 2nd act just flies...it's funny, entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable. Hi lights for me were: Dan Chameroy as "Tinkerbum" (he is brilliantly funny), Jessica Holmes as the "Queen of Hearts", Lamar Johnson as the "Mat Hatter" (amazingly agile dancer), and Eddie Glen as " Tweedle Dummer". Don't miss this latest retelling of a children's classic, updated to include some adult humour, local jokes and lots of satire. Cheers to Ross......you'll be missed next year.

The washrooms are gender neutral, some people may not be comfortable using them so just be aware. The theatre is a bit warm, try to wear layers so you can take off outer clothing to be cooler if you are afraid of the heat. I watched The Waltz this time. Cute story and you'll understand the jokes if you grew up in Toronto. Highly recommend.

We bought tickets to a show for Fringe Next Stage at the studio theatre. It was a snow storm so we…read morewere grateful to get underground parking directly across the street...access from Adelaide it was below a building and took the honk mobile app for payment. There was a heated tent outside the theatre where we lined up for the show. The box office was in the tent as was a bar and a park bench if you wanted to sit. We were led into the theatre by staff and then asked for our name to enter. I did not need to show the barcode on my phone as they had my name and number of seats that I had purchased. The washrooms were small, cramped and smelly. It felt like we were in a trailer? 2 stalls and 1 sink. The studio theatre was small and the seats tight but we could easily see the stage and hear/see the entire show with no problems. The staff were friendly.
