There are whole bunch of drug addicts and needle shooters that lay around in the alley. If not every day, there are broken glass and used needles. Although this garden have a lot of beautiful flowers and trees. Lots of fruit trees and plants too, but it's really disgusting because no one takes care of it. It's crowded, branches in twine with other. Leaves are brown due to no one watering it. And not every one can get in. On the gates door is a pad number lock. You have to sign up to be a member, and obtain the lock number.

Friends of the Urban Forest provide a tree of our choosing and no cost and care for the tree for its 1st 3 years after planting.. Since several magnolias are already blooming on our street, we choose this beautiful and very sweet fragrance blooming flower as well as memories. On Saturday, July 12, 2025 the volunteers Friends of the Urban Forest planted six beautiful trees on our 600 block of San Bruno Avenue in Potrero Hill neighborhood. We, a homeowner with an elderly, handicapped husband in poor health, are being forced to endure a nightmare by Friends of the Urban Forest determined to plant a tree in front of our house - despite our pleas and a pending CITY CASE (#18164776)! Here's why this is a disaster waiting to happen: Health Risk: My husband, unable to maintain the tree due to his condition, will be burdened with leaves and potential hazards. We can't afford extra help! One reviewer wrote, "We told FUF that we wanted trees that didn't drop leaves, but in the end we relied on their advice...Big mistake... We've paid for a new sidewalk (more than $5k), a root pruning and many branch prunings, just to keep them in control. Our sidewalk is perpetually littered with leaves, because the trees shed all the time. They lean into the street, so the street sweepers won't sweep up our gutter." Utility Danger: Roots risk damaging gas lines, power lines, and water - a potential catastrophe! Blocked Sunlight: The tree will choke our existing trees and block light from our house, compromising security after recent break-in attempts! One reviewer wrote, "...they've made our curbside so dark, it's become the spot of choice for local prostitutes to bring their clients." Delivery Obstruction: Groceries delivered to our doorstep will be missed due to the tree blocking visibility of our house number. Accessibility Nightmare: The narrow street will become impassable for pedestrians with the added tree. Health Hazard (Twice!): We already battle dog waste on the street - more trees invite more messes, adding to my husband's burden. Cracked Sidewalks: Look down the block! These trees are known to damage sidewalks, posing a serious fall risk for residents! One reviewer not from our neighborhood wrote, "Ten years later my sidewalk is totally torn up by tree roots as is part of my front porch. The city cited me and it cost me over $11,000 to repair and replace everything and I shopped the project to four companies for the best price." They Laughed at Our Plight! Two workers from the organization started breaking the cement in front of our house today, completely ignoring the open city case and our desperate pleas. They even laughed at our concerns! A reviewer wrote, "California Penal Code 594 PC defines the crime of vandalism as maliciously damaging, destroying or defacing another person's property...And if the property owners do not respond in time they cut a hole in the sidewalk, which is the property owners responsibility to maintain or be fined." This isn't about beautification; it's about putting a vulnerable individual at risk! We demand Friends of the Urban Forest respect the city case and safety concerns before this situation escalates! I may want to want to consult with a legal professional familiar with local regulations to discuss my options. They ignored my pending CITY CASE (#18164776). Here is a potential code they could have broken: ADA Compliance: If the sidewalk was not properly restored or if the alteration created obstacles that impede accessibility, FUF might be in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or similar accessibility regulations. My husband is handicapped. He will have trouble moving around in that area. All this is my opinion.

There was more dirt than flowers and vegetables to be seen, but beautiful nonetheless with an interesting history to go along with the creation of the garden, a result of the dedication and determination of neighborhood residents who also maintain the planter beds. Inside the serene space, there's a shipping container showcasing a vibrant and colorful mural (City Life Oasis) by Michael Rios, as well as a massive manila village mural on the building across the street. Also within the garden, a bit of seating can be found available for community members and visitors to enjoy the carefree atmosphere and growing plants all around.

It was a garbage filled alley that was frequented by drug dealers before. The Recreation and Park Department manages over 35 gardens that are on City-owned property. This is one of those community gardens where people can grow plants for personal use. Located at Bush Street and Mason Street, Nob Hill. Like most of the gardens, this one is not used by a lot of people and is a good place to relax & smell the wide variety of flowers and other plants here.

Lots of tummy clenched emotion during those times. But like the cycle of native plants, when something is out of place... it won't flourish or grow as it should. It can't adapt or find it's rhythm with the surrounding topography. Understanding native plants might actually help with your broader understanding of life. It did for me. =)

I wouldn't normally think I could bring my albeit, only 13lb and mellow as heck, dog inside to visit once we first came upon it on a dusky afternoon at Christopher Playground, but the sign in front said DOGS ARE ALLOWED ON LEASH so we were overjoyed! The flowers and vegetables are lush and healthy, living in harmony with Glen Canyon Park as a gorgeous back drop to this little piece of heaven. Had to FaceTime my mom who's a member of a community garden back east, as I knew she would appreciate it. Denali was very relaxed strolling through it with me, too. Hope to visit it again, with or without her!

On April 29th, my family and I were verbally assaulted by a woman working in this garden. This…read morewoman was not an employee of S.F. Rec and Parks but a neighborhood volunteer or an individual with a plot in the garden. While exiting Glen Canyon Park by the garden, this individual began to yell at us to "wear masks on the street." When we calmly informed her that you were not required to wear masks while exercising, she continued to berate and harass us. She told us to "get off of her street and to get out of her neighborhood." We are residents of the neighborhood. Our young son was present and she brought him into her tirade, saying we should be "better examples" to him. He was traumatized and crying throughout the incident. I am a person of color and her assumption that we did not belong in the neighborhood smacks of the worst kind of prejudice. I'm sure the garden is a lovely place but we were made to feel extremely unwelcome and threatened by just being in the vicinity of it. I would hope that this was a singular incident and not reflective of the surrounding area or of the other people who manage plots there.
