The bathrooms were clean, and each campsite had a nice cover over the table. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. However, the hiking trails were really just walking trails and weren't that exciting. We were also woken up every morning at 5am because the duck hunters would unload near our site and walk down to the lake. If you did manage to fall asleep you were soon woken up to gunshots starting around 6:30 for hunting. The first night, right at dusk, we were attacked by some sort of nasty flying bug.. I think maybe industrial terminates because they came from the ground. It was terrorizing. But didn't happen the second night. And the Javelina's were really cool to see, but an absolute nightmare for our guardian dog. They do get close to the campsite, even if people are out, and our dog declared them as public enemy number one. So we were always on edge and looking for them before he caught wind of them. If you are looking for a chill spot to just hang and camp, I recommend. But if you are looking for more activities in a park, this honestly wasn't the place. The kids activities that were scheduled for the Saturday were cancelled, which was disappointing.

They were really cute and thankfully they never messed with us. The park has plenty of parking and everyone I spoke with were really friendly. I even liked how the park have plenty of seats and benches you can sit and relax on. Overall this was a fun day trip and plan to come back here in the near future.

The playground has lots of shade, and there is a fun zipline ride and a basketball ball court nearby. There are benches and a reading nook under a giant live oak tree. The park has lots of campgrounds and picnic tables. It's also part of the historic Camino Real. Helton Nature Park is worth a trip.

A bit underwhelming…read more When I visited Grotto, I was a little disappointed. The Grotto is a small section of the Riverwalk that is designed as a man-made rock grotto. You can walk under the cave to view a waterfall and fountain. I am not sure if it was construction or a poorly built safety rail, but the pathway surrounding the installation was lined with cheap-looking PVC pipes and buckets filled with concrete. It really took away from the art installation. The photos really make the Grotto seem larger and more robust than it actually is. Once you walk under it, the main attraction (the face and fountain) is actually quite small. I would only really visit if you're in the Pearl-Midtown area, otherwise I would not recommend going out of your way to see it.

It was just as beautiful as I remembered. This place truly lives up to its name. Paradise Canyon is privately owned, family-oriented, and offers something for everyone. There are shallow areas where kids can safely swim and play, as well as deeper sections for adults who want to swim or practice their strokes. The grounds are well maintained, the restrooms are clean, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. It's the kind of place where you can spend the entire day relaxing and making memories with your family. I would recommend Paradise Canyon again and again. It's a true Texas gem.

Skip forward ten years and the change was amazing! Nice big spring fed pool (then) with ancient giant cypress trees lining the sides. The park grounds had been revitalized and a pavilion added. Also interesting is this strange but serene mound (I think it's called a grotto) with water filtering through it. It only cost $1,'25 to swim if you wanted and yes the bathhouses had been reconstructed. They're kept pretty clean, too. Also note: this is the second oldest public park in the United States. Very profound.
