I generally try to avoid leaving negative reviews, especially when the owner is very kind. However, I feel it's important to mention that I wasn't happy at all with my haircut. I usually get a simple undercut with faded back and sides, but the cut I received here didn't resemble a fade at all. The difference between the longer and shorter sections was very noticeable, and there was no smooth transition. I left feeling upset and disappointed, and ended up immediately going to a different barber to fix it which of course involved paying for another cut. Thankfully, they were able to help, but there's still a spot that couldn't be fixed, so I'll need to let my hair grow out for a proper fix. It's not a huge deal since hair only grows, but it wasn't the cut I was hoping for. I was pretty upset. If you're looking for a general barber fade, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. read more

Great haircut, the owner is very personable, and she was able to accommodate me even on a day she wasn't normally open. Big recommend!

I went for a stroll yesterday and came upon Plaza Barber Shop. The barber shop was so cozy, welcoming and had such a wonderful neighborhood vibe. And inside, Brock was there to give a great men's haircut. I got a skin fade and he really did a great job. He paid great attention to the hair and really took care of me and did a great job. He also was such a fun, warm and friendly host. We had a great range of conversations - everything that a barbershop can be. The hair cut costs $25 which is a fair price and well worth it. Also, if you want they even have a jar of pink lollipops. read more

The owner is rude as shit. Don't go here! She was over the top rude! don't waste your money!!

Martha is amazing. Since my boyfriend and I have been dating, he has insisted that I met his barber and get her blessing since (she did not like the last one). Why Martha is amazing 1. The shop's ceiling is covered with customer photos (like some Japanese restaurants do) and yes, my bf is on the ceiling 2. She is a sports fanatic... Martha has tons of bay area posters, pictures, bobble heads and ornaments.. Yes, she is a Giants fan (we don't hold it against her) but to make up for it.. she is a 49er fan... she will put on the game if you request.... 3. 20 bucks gets you the following 1. haircut your way 2. hot foam shave 3. back massage with a massager thingy 4. the mascot of the shop (silky terrier named Buddy) is super chill and friendly 5. Martha is very down to earth, friendly, and is good at what she does 6. I love her laugh (it is infectious) I got Martha's blessing and now I know the person behind the BF's great hair cuts Mom and Pop shop... support your local community! I love Martha! She is a great barber, with an original barber shop. She throws in a shoulder massage like they use to in the old days. Always a great experience! read more

Friendly staff and great haircuts! If you like the Giants, this is a must visit barber shop.

The Plaza Barber Shop will get you a great haircut in Capitola. No need to get your haircut at a hipster place that charges you double the price. Setup an appointment with Jaci at 831.234.3778. read more

Worst fade ever. My friends were like stop cutting your own hair, and I paid $20 for it. I feel like the biggest sucker. Went back to get my money back and she was like sorry no refunds, looks perfect to me. I wish I could post a picture. read more

Plaza Barber Shop - Barbers Near Me - Capitola, California

Just moved to town and trying to find a barber, thankfully it wasn't to far from my apartment. Upon walking in there were two guys and a lady. Both guys were taken with others so I got my cut from Martha. Great lady, super sweet and nice! Did an awesome job on my hair! One of the best haircuts I've had in a long time! Near the end of my visit she turns on what looks like a buffer but it's a massager! She massages your back too! Definitely worth every penny! Martha was great but from what I saw the other guys there were doing fantastic too! Glad I found this place! read more

If you need a haircut and you're within an hour drive of Capitola then you MUST come here! Jose was great! Took the time to make sure my haircut was perfect and even went back after he had finished and made it shorter when I asked. The cost can't be beat either! If you want a great cut and great conversation the. This is the place you want to come. Every time I'm back in town to visit my parents I'll make sure to be back to get my hair cut here. read more

This shop is pretty cool! It was my first time there and won't be my last. DJ always gives me the perfect cut. He has been cutting my hair for a couple years now and is always consistent and he is good about getting you in for a cut when you have a busy schedule. I would always recommend calling before hand to make sure there is an opening! The shop has 3 chairs. So it's got that small barber shop vibe. Everyone was friendly and you should give DJ a call! read more

I wrote a draft review for Plaza Barber Shop as soon as I got home from my haircut, but before posting, decided to live with it for a while before formulating an opinion; my preliminary rating was (4) stars. Now that it has been (4) weeks, I must say that I'm very pleased with how well hair has grown out. I can't remember the name of the woman who cut my hair, but I think it started with an "M." The entire experience was great starting when I called to get in on a Saturday afternoon -- another customer had just canceled an appointment and I was able to get in just before they closed for the day. Before cutting my hair she took time to gather a some details, including how I wanted it cut and how I planned to wear it. I mention this because many barber shops give only two types of haircuts: short and medium-short. All in all, this place deserves the (5) star rating for great service, quality, and value. I'll probably be calling them tomorrow to set up my next haircut. read more

Martha's great! First time there, she worked me in at closing, gave me a solid cut and some restaurant recommendations (i'm new to the area). She prefers appointments, BTW. Heh. read more

Two very important things to have in life: 1) A great barber. 2) An honest mechanic. This place is the answer to the first item. Always friendly, reasonably priced and a great cut every time. I'm always on the lookout for a good barber and this place is up at the top of my list. Hot shaving cream for the sideburns and neckline, neck and back massage at the end and friendly people, it can't be beat. read more

Finally found it. A real barbershop. I drove all the way from Hollister to get my haircut by Martha. Sooooo glad I did. Great shop, best haircut in years, get in here and support your local small business. Very dog friendly and very affordable prices. Beard trim was only 10. Real barber chairs, neck massage and she does the eyebrows, nose hairs, you know: the way it is suppose to be done. Not like some phooofy salon. This is a real barbershop. read more

Martha is changing lives with her brilliant smile, her incredible authenticity, and most of all her amazing work! Plaza Barber Shop - Barbers Near Me - Capitola, California

Can't say I had the best experience here. Brought my son in for a haircut and was alarmed to watch Martha use a straight razor on him. I did not feel comfortable saying anything to her, however I was made aware by a family member that cosmetologists (Martha is not a licensed barber) are not allowed to use straight razors in the state of California. This made me feel uncertain about the sanitation and safety of the shop, considering tools were being used without proper licensing. Will not be returning. read more

The woman who answered the phone LIED about the fact that "due to the AIDS epidemic, it's illegal in the State of California to perform straight-edged shaves" which is patently FALSE. Barbers are licensed to perform shaves, but they can CHOOSE not to. She hung up on me when I confronted her with this lie. I suggest that, if you want a (disposable) straight-razor cut/shave, you give this place a clear miss. Rude, too. read more

Worst haircut ever! I am not a trained barber but I can and have given myself a better haircut - that's sad!

Great place to get a hair cut. Friendly staff. Sports always on the TV and plenty of guy stuff to read when there is a wait, which rarely happens. Able to style women hair as well. Owner is a big sport fan. read more

Martha has been giving me haircuts since I moved into town back in 2004. I was lucky to find her on my first trip to a local barber, and have gone nowhere else. There's a warm and welcoming vibe in the shop, with lots of San Francisco Giants stuff. She knows me by name, as well as my wife's and even my dog's name, and always asks how they are doing. When I take a seat, I get "the usual", and she gets to work. Finishing off, Martha applies hot lather to the nape of my neck and shaves with a battery-powered razor. The electric massager to relax stiff shoulders is a nice touch. Martha takes appointments, which is great for my hectic schedule, and she'll take walk-ins if there are some openings that day (and if not, just pop over to Gayle's or The Cook House restaurant nearby). read more

Staff are very nice here. Great haircut at a great price. Complimentary massage, and they do a really good job at cutting hair

Martha is great! She's very consistent, and she's always very pleasant. I've recommended friends and will continue to do so.

Martha is the best in town! Not only is she super nice but she is great at what she does. On top of that, they have the best prices in town. It can be hard to find someone you trust to cut your hair (especially as a woman) so I'm so thankful to have this place. Even though it's a barber shop, it is my go to salon! read more

The only place I can trust it will do a great job cutting my hair. Martha is the owner and she is great every time. I recommend 100%.

Over 10 years ago, I walked into Plaza Barbershop and sat down. Martha greeted me with a warm smile that has not changed over all these years. I've always received a great haircut and I enjoy the hospitality and friendly conversation you will always find at Plaza Barbershop. Where else can you get a great quality cut at a very reasonable price, enjoy all the sports memorabilia, and share a few good stories along the way? Whenever I call, she fits me in. If I can't make it during regular hours, she's always willing to stay later. You don't find that anywhere else. I'm glad I walked into Plaza Barbershop, all those years ago...! read more

It has been a couple of years since I reviewed Plaza Barber Shop. Grooming is important to me because I give a lot of speeches. Awesome service. In addition to giving an excellent cut for a reasonable price, Martha gives you one of the best send-offs possible: a heavy shoulder massage. Dope little barbershop. Laid back atmosphere, everyone there was super chill. Went there the other other day for my first hair cut in years. DJ hooked up a clean new cut while still keeping it long and lightweight wild. I had no regrets like I normally do when cutting off my hair. Will definitely be returning to Plaza for future haircuts. read more

I have been getting great haircuts from Martha for many, many years. Martha cut my hair in San Jose when she had her shop there. She moved to Capitola and I followed her there. Now my husband also goes to Martha for his haircuts. He is very happy with Martha's haircuts and he really looks forward to the shoulder message Martha finishes with, using the electric massager. Martha goes the extra mile to make sure her clients are happy. Martha is great! read more
