Walking around the Cabo Marina, you'll quickly be approached by hawkers selling a variety of boat…read moretours, fishing trips, and whale-watching excursions. After comparing a few options, we went with Entiqua, who offered a 45-minute tour for $20 per person--the cheapest price we found.
For what we wanted, it was perfect. The tour took us out to see the iconic arch rock formation and nearby beaches, which alone made the trip worthwhile. The real surprise, though, was the whales. We saw multiple whale spouts, tails, and even breaches, which was completely unexpected and unforgettable.
That said, you definitely get what you pay for. The guide was skilled and did a great job maneuvering the boat close to the key sights, but he spoke little to no English, so there wasn't much explanation during the ride. Also, although the tour was sold as a glass-bottom boat, it really wasn't. The boat was older, and the small glass panels were covered in algae, making it impossible to see anything below the surface.
On a positive note, the man who sold us the tour gave us a solid lunch recommendation--John's Place--which turned out to be a great spot and a nice bonus tip.
Overall, this tour was good value for the money, especially considering the whale sightings. If seeing marine life beneath the water is important to you, though, be sure to look carefully for a boat with a true, well-maintained glass bottom. The water is clear, and there are plenty of fish--it's worth finding the right setup.
