Mermaid Mood Bowl
Melody W.

Recommended by a friend to try this out! Stopped for breakfast açaí bowl here before yoga with puppies!! Highly recommend the mermaid mood bowl I liked that it was seasonal l, the pitaya/dragonfruit was great, and I enjoyed the Nutella and coconut flakes with pineapple throughout. The bowl was made quickly and I was able to take it to go. The ambiance was nice but more of a place to go with a few friends for a quick bite. I think I would enjoy having the bowl outside on a nice sunny day or in a park!

5 Stars - A Tropical Oasis in the Desert! Who knew I'd find a taste of the beach right here in Arizona? Playa Bowls is my new go-to happy place. From the moment you walk in, you're hit with that laid-back, surf-shack vibe--bright colors, coastal decor, and the smell of fresh fruit that makes you feel like you just stepped off the boardwalk in Malibu. The bowls? Absolutely fire. I tried the Nutella Acai Bowl and it was pure bliss--creamy acai, perfectly ripe bananas, strawberries, a drizzle of Nutella, and that granola crunch that ties it all together. It's indulgent but still feels healthy, which is basically the dream. Their menu is stacked with options--acai, pitaya, coconut, green, chia, and even oatmeal bowls. You can tell everything is made fresh, and the fruit toppings are never soggy or sad. Oh, and they don't skimp on portions. These bowls are hearty. Bonus points for the friendly staff who are super patient when you inevitably take 10 minutes trying to decide between the Pura Vida and the Electric Mermaid. (Pro tip: get both. You won't regret it.) If you're craving something cold, colorful, and packed with good vibes, Playa Bowls hits the spot. Whether you're post-gym, escaping the heat, or just need a mood boost--this place delivers every time.

Randomly stopped in for a post workout smoothie. Had never been in before or heard of the place. Happy to report my smoothie was delicious. I ordered the Dolce. I felt like something chocolate-y at the time and this one also already includes protein in it. Cute spot and friendly staff. Yummy smoothie.

Very expensive and freezing inside. I came here with my daughter and spent $17 on a mediocre bowl of melted splatter. The service is great through they are quick and very sweet. I won't be coming back but I'm thankful for the kind service.

2 Coconut Bowls and 1 green/acai bowl- $13- Very good

Playa Bowls... refreshing acai "Beach Bowls." Prices are a little higher here, but the bowls are a good size. They are all about 16 oz for $12-14 each, although additional toppings will cost you 75 cents each or $1.25 for extra vegan or whey protein. I got a Pacific Bowl (green bowl base) and 1/2 acai. Their bowls are more smoothie- based with toppings instead of a sorbet. While the bowls are tasty, the customer service was lacking and rude. Most of the workers were high school students or maybe in college. We placed a large order, and I asked the cashier about their rewards program. She was not friendly and said she didn't know how the rewards program worked, then said it was too late for us to apply our points after our order... not helpful at all. Then she said, "You need to have the app." We regret tipping them as the service was awful. I asked for a bag later, and she stared at me blankly, then said, "They are right here." The worst service I have gotten from an acai bowl place. :( The inside was cute and there was a lot of seating. However, the restrooms were out of toilet paper and they had run out of soap, and none of the four staff went to restock. I usually only care about the product when I go places, but the customer service here was unacceptable. I hope they can better train their staff or hire new staff that actually want to be there. I will not be coming back.

This place is nice open and beach themed, lots of seating as well. The decoration was done perfectly taking who ever walks in to a beach town smoothie shop. There were lots of options which is great and with simple and healthy ingredients. We had gotten a banana berry smoothie and a mango one and both were very good! Tasted super refreshing and healthy! It was smooth and creamy and well, only thing was it's a more expensive place. The service was iffy, girls working there seemed kinda over it, but I get it, since we came in close to closing.

New to açaí bowls and this is the best one I've had since moving here!! So much flavor and sooo many options!!

Jennifer F.

Omg! These bowls are incredible! You can even choose two different bases like passion fruit and pitaya. So delish. Fruit is fresh and plentiful. And they offer gluten free granola if you like. We will definitely be back!

James Y.

Who knew looking for an açaí bowl place would lead to a place with so many choices. I've seen Playa Bowls around but never gave them a shot, but I was really craving an açaí bowl and they happen to be the closest place from where I was--and I'm glad they were. I didn't realize there were so many base options (e.g. açaí, coconut, banana, etc.), but it was a nice surprise. Took me a little to consider, but I stuck to the reason I came here. The bowls are delicious and plentiful, and I believe they're (almost--thanks inflation!) worth the price. The fruits are fresh, they're sweet (if in season), and enough to share between two people. If I'm looking to eat something as a healthy meal replacement, I'd come here since I left pretty full after eating a bowl by myself. The establishment isn't the cleanest, though, and I wish they did more frequent cleaning, as the tables had sticky leftovers from previous customers. The bathroom was also not great. Not a big deal if you're taking out. Speaking of, if you're taking out, I think it would actually be better since it'd give the bowl a little time to "thaw", making the consistency of the açaí smoother. So don't worry about it melting. Overall, glad this is a chain with plenty of locations in the valley.

Paul M.

This place was so good! I got an açaí bowl, my wife got a pataya bowl, and my daughter got a smoothy. My açaí bowl was amazing. Blueberries were fat buggers and had intense blueberry taste. Strawberries were juicy, and the granola was perfect and crunchy. Slathered in honey, the whole bowl was perfect! Totally refreshing and delicious. My wife loved her bowl and my daughter loved her smoothie. The inside was super clean and inviting, staff was friendly and efficient, and prices were reasonable. I'd be going here all the time if I lived close!

Natasha L.

Playa Bowls is the spot ! If you have not been definitely support our local businesses & try their smoothies or bowls!!! definitely a place to hang out & have a moment to focus on yourself & health! Great customer service & staff always with a smile!

Impressive variety of acai bowls, difficult to pick one but I guess it's a reason to keep coming back! Service was good, nice friendly staff.

acai bowl...base is ice and water
Alex B.

We were looking forward to trying this place out but were very disappointed in our acai bowls. The place was clean and had a nice vibe. Friendly staff. The acai however was horrible. Both our bowls had a base that was filled with ice and was watery (see pic). Toppings were fine.

All tables and the restaurant were very clean. Service was fast, even with 1 person in front of us. The waitresses were friendly and helpful. When we got seated, I noticed there were stacks of the same book at each table. We wondered what the story was. It turns out the owner of the restaurant wrote this book. The POKĒ bowls were fresh and surpassed my expectations. I was able to order one for myself using their toppings that had plenty of flavor yet was fitting to the Mediterranean diet. I did this by customizing my bowl. The other option was to order a pre-made bowl.

Located in a shopping center they share with several other businesses, free parking was a breeze. Ambiance (3/5): Pretty much your run-of-the-mill fast casual restaurant. A little small but clean and comfortable. Not remarkable in any way but does the job. Partially a sit-down place and partially a grab-and-go type place. Service (4/5): You order at the counter and they make your bowl right then and there. The guy working was friendly, maybe even a tad bit too friendly. He was trying to start conversations constantly while we were more interested in just ordering our food. Another nice touch is that they had free books you could leave with. I'm not sure if there's a connection to the owner, but either way, I snagged one. We were still eating when they closed, so they ended up kicking us out a few minutes later. Not a big deal, but it would have been nice for a little cushion as they were cleaning. Drinks (4/5): No alcoholic beverages, but they do have better than your run-of-the-mill soft drinks. Tractor sodas plus fresh juices/lemonades (with three to choose from). Exactly what I hope for at places like this. Food (4.5/5): I created my own bowl (they have preset ones if that's more your style). You choose your size (basically with each size upgrade, you get an extra scoop of protein). I went with three scoops (two Hawaiian ahi tuna and one Asian chicken). The Asian chicken is cooked (one of the few options here that is). Which gives an option for those that aren't into raw food. And it's also one of the few non-seafood options. The chicken was well marinated. On the flip side, I'm a big fan of tuna. I've been to Hawaii which perhaps has the best tuna in the world. The sweet marinade here worked perfectly with the flavorful tuna. The proteins were a hit. For my base, I went with brown rice (white rice is also an option). I added a bunch of toppings including edamame, cucumber, furikake, crispy onions, cucumber salad, black sesame seeds, and corn. I went with their signature sauce and also got their yuzu ponzu and teriyaki on the side. The first two were delicious. The teriyaki, while good, was a little sweeter than your typical teriyaki (I like the classic version). A filling meal and a pretty affordable one.

We were a party of 12 visiting on vacation, and none of us are from the area. We ordered spam musubi and a chicken skewer as appetizers. Both appetizers arrived well after our entrees had already been served and we had essentially finished eating. Each time we asked about them, we were repeatedly told, "They're coming." Mind you, these are simple appetizers that should not take anywhere near that long to prepare. When we asked for the third time, we finally asked that the appetizers be cancelled since we had already finished our meal. At that point, the gentleman working the front area , tall, with red hair, loudly yelled from across the restaurant, in an extremely rude and confrontational tone, "It's already on the grill!" There was absolutely no reason to speak to paying customers that way. His response was unprofessional, unnecessary, and honestly created a very hostile and uncomfortable feeling during what should have been an enjoyable dinner, especially while our group was on vacation and simply trying to enjoy a meal together. When the appetizers eventually came out, we left them sitting there because we were already done eating and ended up taking them to go. He eventually told us they would be removed from the bill, which we appreciated, but that did not excuse the way the situation was handled. Again, the food was good, but good food does not make up for poor service and especially not for an employee speaking to customers in an aggressive and disrespectful manner. Management should seriously address how customers are treated, because the interaction with this particular employee overshadowed what could have otherwise been a good dining experience for our party of 12.
