One of my favorite things to do is eat dessert first so when it comes to acai bowls it's almost like a cheat code unlocked. A healthy meal? Sure. I was in New York for 6 days and had Playa Bowls 4 times. Each time the bowl was consistent and good. Everything from the base to the toppings tasted fresh. The serving size was pretty big. It filled me up every time. One of the best acai bowls I've had. The location had lots of seating and was pretty clean. Dreaming of Playa Bowls in SF. read more

Personally, a huge fan of playa bowls. All of their bowls are fresh and there's a wide array of exciting flavor combos to choose from. Unfortunately, this playa bowls is a few tiers below the rest. Coconut flakes were yellowed and rock hard. Looked unclean inside. No place to sit. Would recommend finding a different location in the city. read more

Consistently good smoothies and bowls. I've been here probably a dozen plus times. Every bowl has an option to get gluten-free/vegan granola (which actually tastes *better* than their regular one, crunchier). Just be sure to bring cash - they upcharge credit cards. Most Playa Bowls in NYC have a seating area & restroom. This one is takeout ONLY, and no bathroom. If it's nice out, grab your bowl and head to Washington Square Park. read more

This is my friend's favorite açaí bowl place so of course I had to try. The granola tasted so crunchy and the açaí was delicious. The fruit could have been a bit more fresh but it was still great. I am a HUGE fan of açaí bowl. I mean, making them at home for myself and my parents on an almost daily basis kind of fan. I was shocked to see that the price of the bowl I wanted ( Nutella ) was ~14$?! I decided to bite the bullet and get it anyway as I had heard so many good things about playa bowls but never experienced the fun myself. When the cashier told me my total, it was 19$. Yes 19$. I hesitantly handed him that fun piece of plastic that I carry in my wallet & accepted it for what it was. I guess the fruit was out of season and so they added a few bucks to the already outrageous total. The fact that I walked out of there thinking that every dollar was well worth it even blows my own mind. It was absolutely delicious! Generous portion in my opinion, tasted fantastic, and they were playing fun Brazilian funk music the whole time :D read more

Having gone to multiple Playa Bowls locations across the city, this one did not measure up. The location is cramped with no place to eat except standing outside, which is full of construction. The servers were rushed and skimpy with ingredients, especially for the price. It's worth it to walk the few blocks up to the Playa Bowls on 12th! read more

Came here with some friends to try the Mango bowls because they were raving about them . Arrived prior to their scheduled closing time of 11pm as per the info online . Stood out front for a bit reading the menu deciding . The 2 employees in the place were wiping down the counters . As I approached the register one of the workers comes over and says "We're Closed" . I was confused because they watched us pick out what we wanted on the menu and didn't say a word about the place closing . What do you mean you're closed? He says we've been closed since 10:45 . What happened to customer service ?! This was a fail Playa Bowls . We went 2 doors down instead . read more

There's nothing better to beat the nyc heat than an açaí bowl from Playa Bowls. I got the electric mermaid pitaya bowl ($13.95) because I love tropical fruits like mango and pineapple. The bowl was honestly bigger than I thought and it can easily be shared with two people. The bowl was really refreshing and I really liked the flavors together. My one complaint though is that it was almost too frozen and the kiwi on top was so bitter it made it inedible. I had to wait 10 minutes in the 90 degree heat to eat the bowl because the pitaya base was so frozen and my spoon couldn't go through. It made it hard to eat the toppings and base together but after it melted a bit it was better. I would definitely come back but I wouldn't get the same thing. I'd go for one that had sweeter fruit on top or non-fruit toppings. Overall though I recommend! read more

Playa Bowl just released its new Mango based bowls! I'm a big fan! It taste like real fresh mangos (not overly sweet and not sour). This new bowl instantly became my new #2 bowl at playa. #1 is my tropical acai bowl (without pineapples and add peanut butter). Check out the new Mango bowl! I ordered the Goldie Mango Bowl and added coconut chips because why not? Listen RUN, don't walk to get this bowl. It was everything needed for NYC's random 80+ day. Refreshing and light. Shoutout to the staff yesterday. They were pumping out orders for all the customers thinking the same thing as me. It was certainly a perfect day for a smoothie bowl. read more

Açaí bowls and smoothies are fine, fruit didn't taste particularly ripe, especially the bananas topping the açaí bowls. Prices are also pretty ridiculous, adding strawberries is an extra $3 on top of an already $16 bowl. The real issue is the service speed. I went on a Saturday afternoon and there were maybe 3 people in the store and my açaí bowl and smoothie order took over 20 min. Thankfully the sweet cashier guy was apologetic and comped my added $3 strawberries (lol) but they must get a ton of online orders that really back them up because they were churning out orders, none for people actually in the store. Go to Oakberry açaí on Macdougal instead. read more

Terrible customer service. We order 2 drinks, one came up and another not.. sat there for another 15 mins, and then I asked where is the second drink and apparently they forgot.. they never apologized. Skip this place, if you value your time. read more

A solid option for acai bowls. I was overwhelmed by how many different options there were for bases and toppings, but it was fun to customize my own bowl. I opted to try a chia pudding base -- I thought it was great, but the flavor got a bit repetitive as I worked through my bowl. The fruit was very fresh and delicious. I will say that the bowls were pretty pricy (~$15 for 1). With that being said, I feel like the portion size is pretty big for 1 person and could definitely be shared. When it was explained to me what a pitaya bowl was I knew that I had to try one as soon as possible. I'm glad that this place was where I got to first experience it. The bowl I got was simplistic but so delicious. I think the best part about their bowls here is the fact that the smoothie part of the bowl isn't soupy. It's the perfect texture! One of my biggest pet peeve's about getting smoothie bowls is when they're extremely watery because as we all know, if that was the preferred texture people would just get a smoothie with extra fruit & granola on the side. Despite the weather outside being extremely cold and this place being very small I was still able to enjoy my bowl inside comfortably in the warmth of the shop. At the time of my visit the cashier was very short with me and had no additional words for me besides what was necessary for them to take my order. No thank yous, questions or recommendations despite me being the only customer in sight at the time. read more

An amazing place to stop by and get Kosher approved açaí bowls, smoothies, and more! This is my favorite healthy restaurant chain in the city. Definitely worth strolling in and ordering a bowl. The bowls are so loaded that only 1 filled me up. They have more menu items such as smoothies, cold brews, and speciality items. I got to try the fall menu and I loved the Jack-O-Lantern bowl alongside the Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew to wash it down. Definitely worth the try! Additionally, I have to say that going to Playa Bowls at this location in particular is an experience when Jack the manager is around! His kindness is infectious and the customers are always delighted to have the proper customer service experience. The entire team is hard working and always improving. Plus you get your order pretty fast at this tight knit location. They treat the customers like family and always send you off with a "god bless" - the energy is amazing. Sorry but I have been working in a restaurant for 23 years. Consistency is key. You treat your last customer of the day like it's the first customer. Have to say Playa Bowls in Ridge Wood let me down. I asked for a mango glow boy with blueberries and bananas. Subbing the pineapple and kiwi. My bowl came out with everything in it . On top of that the kiwi were old. Seem like they put the remainder of the mango that was in the blender in my bowl. I'm literally have soup with fruit at the moment. It's either eat this or be hungry until I get off work. After paying $16 this is the most expensive soup I've ever had and it's cold. Ridge Wood spots make me have to bring my food from home. read more

NYC ACAI EP 2 Pura Vida Acai Bowl (came with Granola, Blueberry, Strawberry and I removed Honey) Additional Toppings: Raw Cocoa Nibs, Almond Butter $17 (higher than an average acai bowl in the city) [7/10] The bowl was packaged carefully with plastic wrap. The bowl had the perfect sweetness but I didn't like the texture of it. I think it wasn't fully blended because I got some big chunks in it. The quality of their blueberries was also inconsistent. Mine was not fresh at all and I ended up throwing a lot of them away :( Coconut Bowl [8/10]: I ordered this in March when I was obsessed with coconut. It had a perfect texture (def. silkier than acai) and it was so refreshing. But I couldn't finish the whole bowl because when I got to the bottom, it just became sweeter. Next time I might blend the coconut base with a sourer base (like acai or green). For those who count their calorie, the good news is that all the nutrition facts can be found on their website (Not every acai place does that) read more

This is Bowl heaven. They've got acai base, pitaya (dragonfruit), banana, coconut, greens, chia pudding, oatmeal, and they even have seasonal specials! And I love the color scheme, with the rainbow menu and the tropical walls. The girl who took my friend's and my orders was quite nice and patient. My friend got a coconut base with a set from the menu plus 2 extra toppings and I got half acai, half pitaya Electric Mermaid, with almond butter replacing kiwi as a topping. With the student discount of 15%, I paid $10.18. Considering this was a legit bowl, so much better and more worth than Liquiteria's acai bowl. When this other customer and my friend got theirs, it was "to stay," as in no lid on the bowl. However for mine, it was given with a lid squashed on top, as if I wanted "to go." Except it made my bowl ugly and I wanted to take a photo, and I just don't know why this server girl assumed I was "to go" and my friend wasn't? As I ate, my friend and I both felt that the bowls were very cold. (Playa Bowls is an open store and it was like 52 degrees outside.) I found my bowl pretty icy too--almost like shaved ice--so I wanted extra almond butter to compensate for the texture and luckily, the server girl gave it to me. Overall, I would go again and maybe choose a half acai half banana base next time. UPDATE: Playa Bowls is insanely expensive now; all the bowls are $13 or $14, and my bowl looks smaller than last time too. read more

I had such an amazing experience at this playa bowls. Great atmosphere and good customer service. Would highly recommend this playa bowls.

This small cute shop is the perfect place to get a refreshing and healthy treat on a hot humid day! Theres no seating inside, but it's only a 3-5 minute walk from Washington Sq Park. There's so many different options as well; they have Kale, Açaí, Banana, Pitaya and my fave, Coconut bowls. They even give you the choice to get two different bases in your bowl at no additional cost. They also have chia pudding bowls, smoothies, and cold brew. Literally something for everyone! Everything is very reasonably priced too and the employees are friendly. I got the Lola green bowl, with half coconut as my other base and I added strawberries. Everything is very fresh and you can tell you aren't eating a bowl full of added sugars and unhealthy toppings. However, they do have nutella if you want something more on the sweet/sugary side. I can't wait to try every bowl! read more

I was craving an acai bowl during quarantine and this place was one of my options for free delivery on UberEats. I decided to order a Pura Vida Acai Bowl (acai base with strawberries, blueberries, and granola). It came pretty quickly and was very good with a good consistency. The portion size was also pretty satisfying and there were a TON of blueberries. However the base price was pretty high ($15) and with fees it was $20. Also they could have done without the syrup; it was a bit sweet in parts. read more

Felt like breakfast in Hawaii when I came to this beach-style shack on a Tuesday morning. The two young owners have totally put their love of the surf culture into every bite of the best acai I've had in NYC. It's fresh, vibrant, not icy, not a rip-off. Got the tropical, and it's full of coconut shavings and ripe, soft pineapple, honey and granola. Such a feast. Also tried the unique half-coconut/half-acai combo and that was so creamy. Will be back, no doubt, to try the other offerings and specials. 5 stars!!!!!!! read more
