Copied this from my review on another site, from 2014. Can't believe I never posted one here.
A bumpy start, with not being given the room I requested almost a year in advance. However, they corrected it the next day. Missed our wedding night in our room of choice, but the rest of the honeymoon was great! Beyond the initial problem, I can't find a single thing to say badly about the staff here. All the reviews are true; these folks are just fantastic. They will go out of their way to make you happy and do it without making you feel like you are just another tourista. The food is very 'meh', but always served with a smile. They don't overly hassle you while dining, but are there in an instant if you need/want something. The hotel itself is very nice and comfortable. Clean, neat, and pretty much anything you could want. The beach is very nice for snorkeling; saw two octopi within about 10 minutes. Hang near the end of the dive-boat pier if you want to find them. Trigger fish, parrot fish, gobis, sargent majors, flounders, plenty of pretty fish to see.
I've been coming to Cozumel for decades. All of these things can be found at other hotels on the island, save one; the staff. I've never stayed anywhere that I felt more welcome than here. My parents' house included. LOL! If you want to feel like family on your vacation, then stay here! Seems many of the guests are return visitors as well. We had no idea we would be making friends on this trip, but it has been a happy surprise!
The ONLY thing preventing me from giving Playa Azul 5 stars is the fact that they kind of messed-up our wedding night by putting us in the wrong room. Right room type, but not the top floor I requested. As a result, we got to listen to the people above us move furniture across a tile floor on our wedding night. Any other night and I probably wouldn't have minded. Just the worst night for it to have happened. Still, will we come back? Bet your butt we will! As a new couple "we" strongly recommend this hotel for vacation/watersports/romance.
Stayed April 2014, traveled as a couple. Reading this post again, really makes me want to get online and book a flight. read more
