Sorry Play Away, this is a bad review. I would advise anyone looking for a game or advice to come to you in a heart beat BUT If you're looking to get your xbox/pc/what ever fixed, go somewhere else. Right, let me firstly point out that the shop section of play away is fantastic, their pricing is second to none, and i've never had a problem with a game purchased from there, if you need gaming advice they are just absolutely brilliant, and will always point you in the right direction. Richard was amazing when I went in looking for a few new games, his advice was thoroughly impressive and I don't doubt for a second that anyone who wants a new game will regret going here. Honestly, I would recommend the SHOP section of play away to anyone, they are truly fantastic. BUT The REPAIRS section of play away, STAY AWAY FROM. The guy who works down there is rude and arrogant, he doesn't listen to you when your trying to talk directly to him, there is always something more interesting on his computer screen. Oh yeah and HE SCRAPPED MY XBOX without notifying me. Now, let me explain. I dropped my xbox into play aways repair guy because the disk reader was broken, £45 yup come back in a few weeks. Sorted. Brilliant I thought, much easier than going to a commercial huge company, support our local business and use the guys I trust. A week later I went in to pick it up and was advised that it wasn't ready yet, it could take a while because they'd had a flood in the basement and they were planning to move to a different shop. No problem I said, take your time, I'm in no rush because I'm using a friends xbox in the mean time. I asked him to call me when he was done. Several weeks passed, and still I hadn't received a call, I have my phone on my constantly and still didn't hear anything. Which was fine, we had a bit of a family trauma that took a lot of time and money so we weren't particularly bothered that it was taking a while for them to get back to us. Eventually after they'd settled in to their new shop and they appeared to be less busy, my other half went in to pick up our xbox. The bloke who works in the repair section told us that our xbox had been scrapped. That in the move they had not just gotten rid of it but take it apart and sold it bit by bit. We were of course shocked and appalled, but were told it was OUR fault because WE didn't come in to pick it up earlier. Frankly, regardless of whether or not you have a '30 day clause' on your terms and conditions, its still immoral and ilegal to scrap someones property without notifying them first. We've basically been told to f*ck off and have been told that they're not going to do anything to fix the situation. So my advice to you, to anyone who is considering Play Away By all means go and buy games, go for advice, go to the shop they are fantastic! BUT do NOT take your electronics there to be fixed. Not unless you've got the time to go in every single day asking about it. I'm sure he'll fix it for you properly and he'll do a okay job but he will be rude and arrogant and he'll throw away your expensive piece of equipment WITHOUT TELLING YOU if you take too long to come back in. read more

Just thought I should add my 2 cents since I have been shopping here with my Dad since I was very little. We have been coming to this shop for years, to buy software ranging from Gameboy and Playstation games to Xbox 360 and high end PC titles, and I have been extremely satisfied with the service that was provided by the business. It is genuinely the most amazing shop I have used in my life. The staff here provide a casual and friendly service, while giving you recommendations on software and hardware. They learn about their customers and develop relationships with the most common of them. Playaway has a very good trade-in service. They have a set guide on how much they will give you for what you are trading in, and set guides on the prices of which they sell things at. This develops a fast an efficient service for people of all ages to make use of. Their rates are usually very good, with pre-orders for upcoming games being very well priced and efficient. Their trade-in rates are the best I have seen, especially the way they offer extra if you are using it towards certain software, e.g. trading in PS2 games for other PS2 games means you get more money to spend than if you were trading in PS2 games to buy Xbox 360 games, which I think comes in handy for people with older consoles. In conclusion, this is the best shop I have ever used, whether it be a very popular high street shop or an independent shop. The prices are very well done, the staff are friendly and sociable, and they have a large range of things that you can buy. read more

I get so sick of shopping at soulless chain stores where they employ gormless oiks that know nothing about gaming, charge you full whack for old titles and give you next to nothing for games you bought from them less than a week ago. This shop is such a refreshing change; they provide fantastic customer service, in-depth product knowledge and the best prices and range even when you take online shopping into consideration. I've been shopping with them for over 15 years and I've had the opportunity to try indie shops all over the UK and nowhere has ever come close. The service is fast, knowledgable and helpful - you can always ask for advice or a special request (They've been fantastic at ordering in the rarer titles for me) and they'll always recommend products from their own experience. Price-wise, I couldn't recommend them more. Even without special promotions, you can get stacks of games for small change and trade them back in for very little less than you spent in the first place. Their other services such as console/PC repair are fast, reliable and provided by staff totally committed to their trade. I've never heard a bad word said about Play-Away and I doubt I ever will. You need never shop anywhere else and you won't want to, I simply cannot recommend the place enough! read more

Thank you QYPE for giving me this chance to warn other people. The trouble with places like this is that they can ruin your computer for you and there is nothing you can do about it. IT's actually a form bullying. This shop ruined my computer. The shop looks awful, but I thought I would try them, BIG BIG MISTAKE, they ruined my hard drive, I think they hacked my accounts, none of my music worked again. My computer kept just completely shutting down randomly. Avoid this place, it will cost you more in money and time trying to fix everything they are terrible people, they should not be allowed to call them selves a repair shop, they should not be allowed to get away with junking other peoples computer's. read more

Have used this shop probably on and off for 6/7 years never had a problem, I have bought & sold videos and games from them, ordered none standard items in advance, and they have rang me to advise that the items are instock. Had four computer built in 2009 for a company I was working for at the time, and one for myself, which I am still using now. Very reasonably priced and accomodating when providing the extras ..obviously the poster that posted on the 24/27 of september is having a rant and posting under several different usernames. Seems a shame really, because I've had nothing but a fair to good service when dealing with them. read more

I have been a frequent customer with Playaway for years now, buying games and hardware as and when I needed it. I can honestly say, after checking out the other, similar stores around the area, this is the best I have come across. I wholly recommend this store over others for 3 reasons; the service is quick and efficient, and the employees are all friendly with good advice on what to buy and their range of available products is the best out of all the ones I checked. P.S. I recommend you ignore the other review, as they are most likely "trolling" and trying to bring down the overall view of the store. read more

Play Away is an independent computer games shop. They sell new and second hand games as well as consoles. They also buy games and consoles, usually offering a much more competative rate than the other games shops in town. They are usually able to find any games you may require, even old games for out of date consoles. This is a very friendly shop and they will do anything to help you. Downstairs they have an internet cafe where customers can go and surf the internet as well as play online games. It is a bit of a meeting place for online gamers to go a play games and chat. read more

Been going to this particular game store for since i was 11 (21) now, and plainly because i find its the best game store around, always do better trade ins, and give better cash on unwanted software and consoles than other places, brought several xbox 360's from there, bought all my PC parts from there too, always have no problems with anything, brought 100's of games from here simply because they have the best prices nothing to do with the friendly helpfull service they always provide, 5 out of 5 :) read more

5 out of 5. One of the best independent shops in folkestone. The shop is a magnet for kids and the staff here are kind to them and do not rip them off. They will always try and save you money. My son's xbox broke, we got a new slim xbox 360, a game repaired and a data transfer, they then bought the hard drive off us from the broken xbox so all in all we paid £87. Bargain. Great shop all my (Top End) PC gaming machines come from playaways as did my 360,WII oh and my children's nintendo DS's and the 100+ games I own & most of my DVD collection, the quality of repair work I've had done at playaways is of the highest standard, I will continue to shop in playaways as its the best deals in Kent. read more

Always had good advice and work from them over the years. I have 4 family PC's 3 of which were built by them and regularly upgraded. If ever there is a problem I take it in and they fix it. Really handy having them on my doorstep and not some faceless PC chain store. Ron read more

This shop is really bad, I gave them my computer to fix, it was a software issue so i could not believe it when they split the case open for my applemac. My advice is do not touch this place if you still want a computer. TOTALLY RUBBISH read more
