We were referred to Maricarmen and Play and Talk through the regional center. Maricarmen worked with my daughter for a little over a year. I cannot thank Maricarmen enough for all the help she was to my daughter. My daughter said no more than a handful of words when she started working with Maricarmen. And now, my daughter is so talkative, and even sings. Seeing my daughter work with Maricarmen was so heartwarming. My daughter would light up and get so excited every time she would see her walk through the door. Even once we began the virtual sessions due to the pandemic, she would light up. Maricarmen worked with my daughter from age 2 to 3 as a contractor with the Lanterman Regional Center. She was wonderful! She was always a ray of sunshine in our day, and my daughter's speech and personality really blossomed as a result of working with her twice a week. Maricarmen was great about sharing recommendations for developmentally appropriate therapeutic toys that were very affordable, and which I never would have found on my own. She was also amazing at modeling for me ways to work with my daughter to improve her speech-- things like word play, different ways of reading aloud, getting her to drink from cups and eat foods that developed the muscles in her mouth, and using certain kids apps with speech therapy applications. Maricarmen is one of those rare professionals who was born to do the work she is doing. She is great with children, extremely competent, and uses evidence-based techniques in her practice. Her #1 attribute is that she is so supportive of her clients. We felt like she really partnered with our family to improve our daughter's speech. She always made us feel encouraged and empowered to help our daughter reach her goals, and most importantly to us, she always made our daughter feel so loved and smart and special!
