They took him for his check up and to draw the blood then brought him back to me. They suggested a certain antibiotic for his runny nose without checking first to see if he actually had an infection. I knew that that antibiotic had a high rate of side effects and I didn't want to take any unneeded risks for my senior cat. I have had other cats in the past that have been injured and nearly died from medications and have been cautious ever since. They switched to a milder more common antibiotic. After that, 4 of the veterinarians/assistants stood by the door of the room I was in and told me they would not continue our appointment because I did not disclose any vaccine information. I was not there to get any vaccines and would not subject my senior that is an indoor only cat to any unneeded injections. As I said before, I had a young cat that nearly died after his injection. I went home with my ailing senior boy. He ended up getting over his runny nose without any antibiotics. 4 months later, my poor boy had declined more and I didn't know where I was going to take him as I didn't want to deal with the unnecessary bullying. I just wanted to help my senior boy be comfortable. I looked online for a more holistic vet and took him to a Windsor clinic. I believe it was North Star. They were so compassionate and caring for my boy. They did blood work and told me he was in stage 4 kidney failure! Highland Hills Veterinary Clinic never told me that! I was in tears and disbelief that they would put profits over patients. The oath to first do no harm ... especially to our pets. I thanked all those at the north star clinic that day for their empathy and compassion. My sweet boy passed away 4 weeks later. I called Highland Hills to ask them why I was never told that my boy was in kidney failure. I talked to the receptionist each time and she said I would be receiving a call from the owner, which I never did. The last time I called she said I would receive an e-mail, which I didn't. Then she said she would send it in the mail. There should never be an excuse for poor care from a vet that we put our trust in to care for our animals. If we pay for an appointment they are working for us. Their skewed opinions don't matter. Main stream medical/veterinary should not be the only option as their are many injured people and pets from side effects. I know because I have injured family members. There are many natural options that cause no side effects and should be the first option especially for the pet parent that chooses this method. The corporate buy out of our veterinary clinics and schools by Mars Candy is a profit over patient model. It has priced care out of reach for many. It promotes dry kibble which is made my the same company and promoted by the vet clinics, which causes dehydration, tooth decay and dental disease, is high in carbs promoting diabetes, kidney failure, etc. This is all for profit. I pray that some day they will get back to the basics of real care and compassion for our pets.
