I'm a little stumped. I didn't get what I was looking for, but I'm also not sure it was there either . I'm not a shopper....I'm your stereotypical guy when it comes to shopping. I'm easily overwhelmed and have no clue what I'm looking for. With that being said, I meandered around for about 30 minutes and wasn't helped once. I almost asked for help, but by the time I thought to, I was so overwhelmed I just left. It was kind of weird honestly. They just kind of watched me, which made me even more uneasy, while I "shopped". I will say this much, as you can see in my photo, everything is extremely organized. Literally by shade of color. Which is just crazy. The quality of clothes was good, some better that others. Nothing in there made me think "wow this is dirty" or "overworn". All in all, I'll go back, but hoping I have a better shopping experience. Sure, I could ask for help, and maybe I should have, but customer service isn't dead. Lulu Lemon and Buckle are a prime example. Excellent customer service. If I owned a business with an idea as awesome as this can be, I would have the world's best customer service. read more

Sarah the store Manager tried to argue with me both in person and over the phone. Sarah is extremely unprofessional, rude, and racist. I will be contacting corporate office 1st thing Monday morning!!! Sarah said, "You don't know who I am" got an attitude with me, and she kept cutting me off while I was trying to explain. I explained to Sarah that I was overcharged because an employee originally scanned the wrong item. With an attitude Sarah said, "you should have just said that". I told her I've said this to her both in person and over the phone, She then said, "NO YOU DID NOT". She told me she couldn't do anything or return my item then with an attitude she said, "have a blessed day". I went home and checked my bank statement to see what I was actually charged. To my surprise, I was actually charged much less than I should have been charged (for my entire original purchase). Sales associates don't know how to properly ring you up for purchases or do a simple return. In this case it's the stores financial loss not mine, so I'm not upset about the return but I am upset about the way I was treated. Sarah doesn't have customer service skills or basic Math skills (I showed her my receipt multiple times). I'll never return to this location again. Went in with 4 medium sized bags with all kinds of a variety of items. I ended up receiving $91 for 2 bags full of my things. Great deal for me because i was going to donate the rest anyways. I arrived maybe 30 minutes after opening and there was maybe one person in front of me selling. Front desk girl told me it would be around a 45 minute wait and that was pretty accurate of a wait time. Easy process for selling. Don't expect top dollar for you times people this is not a designer place and a lot of people don't understand that then complain in reviews. The only reason i gave 3 starts is because the front desk chick was really stern rather than friendly. She didn't smile or greet me. She just said "selling?". Plato's is a double-edged sword. The reason Plato's is often my first choice for thrifting trendy clothes is the exact same reason it's my absolute last resort for selling clothes. The clothes are very cheap, which means they offer you the most ridiculous lowball amounts of money (as in mere cents) for your clothes. If you want to sell, go to any literally other store that buys clothes in the STL area first. If you want to buy, check out Plato's first. read more

selection is 95% female clothes. They undercharge you for your clothes then turn around and sell them for 3x the price they offered you for them. I'm a male and often bring in NAME-BRAND clothing and clothing that is trending and the most i've ever gotten from plato's was $48 but have multiple girl buddies that bring in half the amount of clothes i do and get like $80-$90 for it. That's upsetting because the brands and stuff i bring to them is items ive dropped $70+ on just for them to offer me $30 for a bin FULL of nice guys clothes. They don't buy anything nice and then put the most random trash grandpa energy clothes in the men's section. Like maybe if they'd buy good brands like i bring they would be making more money from random dudes that decide to give the place a look around. I loved this re-sale shop! Couldn't believe the great deals on name brand accessories and clothes. Their shoe selection was awesome! Purses and wallets were in great shape and featured name brands like Relic and Vera Bradley. There are sunglasses, hats, scarves, not to mention rows and rows of excellently organized clothes. The store also has a very nice set of fitting rooms for trying on clothes. They also offer a frequent buyer club and other discounts. I was pleasantly surprised with my shopping trip. The major negative is that they don't sell plus sized clothes. Biggest sizes I saw were XL or size 16. If they opened a plus size section, I'd move this review to 5 stars! read more

They severely underprice your clothes when you're trying to sell, just to turn around and make a bigger profit off of your sale. Why offer $9 for a whole bin of clothes when you're going to sell one of those items for that much? I've been to this Plaots for a couple years and didn't start selling until recently. I had clothes that were definitely trending to sell to Plato's and they choose to go with 2 card holders and 4 small items for $3...... They have good prices for items but they are terrible when it comes to buying items. The other Plato's in Manchester was way better and was reasonable pricing. I've been to many Plato's, and this one is by far the worst. I've sold to different Plato's locations and they always offer low prices, but this one was absolutely ridiculous. I brought in clothes from Brandy Melville, Abercrombie and other known brands. The items were worn once and in perfect condition, and they offered me $10 for 3 items, which were anywhere from $30-$80 originally. Such a low ball, very disappointed. read more

Smells really bad right when you walk in the door. Many items they try to sell are damaged especially items on the lululemon rack. I noticed that multiple of the lululemon items had holes or other wear and tear on them and they still were attempting to sell for 40$. I recommend going to the clothing mentor right next to this location. It is way cleaner and much more organized ! read more

If there was an option for 0 stars, the store AND their employees would get it. As a size 12 individual, I never felt more like a giant truck then walking into that store and being stared down upon the employees. To top that, the store was comprised of aisles of sizes XS-S, with a lovely 3 ft wide selection of L-XL. I love a good walk of shame. I had the lovely opportunity to have a front row seat to an employee looking through my drop-offs. What a show! It was a series of glancing at the size and throwing back into the bag it came in. The silliest thing is that bag was full of Zara, Madewell, Urban Outfitters, and more trendy brands. I guess a thicker girl can't have the same luck as the girl who came after me, most likely a size 2, who had more than 80% of her bag accepted! At some points, the clothes were not even unfolded and just thrown back into the reject pile. As a 22 year old woman with a bad shopping habit, please listen to me when I tell you to just pass on this store. It was a terrible experience and just not worth the effort. This is the absolute worst experience I have ever had selling clothes. The store itself is stocked full of XS and S sizes, which happen to be the size of all the associates who work there. It's slim pickings for everyone else. I brought in a bin full of 50+ items of size M-XL, which I received $3.50 for the 2 items they took from it. Associates don't even look at the clothes before throwing them back in and I'm convinced the size tag is the only thing they care about. Their store is full of outdated Forever 21 tank tops from 2012, yet i'm given a spiel of how my clothes are too out of style and worn to sell. Won't be returning and would recommend everyone else to find a different secondhand store to go to. read more

Do not take your clothes here under any circumstances! I'm absolutely appalled at their lack of care for customer items and customer experience. Workers, managers, and owner have the worst attitudes I have ever experienced! They're truly mean people who couldn't care less about you or your clothes. I brought in a round of clothes to try to sell- was given a massive wait of over 7 hours so I left as I had to go to work. I was in an accident and called and was told my clothes would be kept safe in the back. Upon going to pick them up they informed me they had dropped all of my items off at goodwill. I told them if this had been the case I would've had someone pick it up but got no text, phone call, or even an email. No apology given from the managers, contacted the owners x4 and no response, and contacted corporate and never heard back. I have them months to make it right and nobody cared at all. The sentimental container I brought it in and almost 2k of designer clothing was gone. I will be filing a report with the BBB and FTC because this is essentially stealing and all I wanted was a sincere apology. read more

I came here not expecting much. I actually called a friend of mine and she said "I bet you make $10. They never take anything and they're so crabby." That was far from my case. I had never been to this location and was so pleasantly surprised. The girls at the counter were extremely friendly, explained the whole process to me, and they continually complimented me on my belongings. I ended up selling over half of my stuff and made far more than I expected. This place is worth the stop if you're looking to clean your closet out! read more

I've visited this location 3 times in the past month testing it out and bringing different brand items. She claims I have "great brands" but minor wear and tear with clothes I never wore. I use to love love love to come to this location. But after a couple trips to disappointment, I had to finally write a review. It's almost amusing the difference between this one and the one off Manchester. So I'd say right before Xmas i went by the location in Ronnie's... i had a ton of stuff (3 laundry baskets and a medium sized bag) they gave me $9 bucks and some change. Ok. I planned on taking what wasn't bought to goodwill. It sat in my trunk til about 2 weeks ago. I was out on Manchester and drive past Plato's closet out there and thought "why not" so i dropped my stuff off. They bought half of what i brought in. And paid me almost $75 bucks for it! Seriously not kidding. So today i went in with a trash bag full of shoes and what not. (Didn't have time to run out to Manchester) The lady told me it'd be about 45 minutes... it was over an hour. Then i get $5.36. My sister in-law use to work at journeys. Never wore the same pair of shoes twice. Obviously everything name brand. Took none of them. I had forever 21 clothes i bought months ago. Some body suits with tags still on them... nope, didn't take those either. And while waiting for them to go through my things. One of the workers holds up a pair of athletic leggings and goes "i don't understand the difference between Athletic and not" the other girl says "well those are athletic" and she says "ok now I'm confused" another worker chimes in and goes "yeah I'm confused now too" wow! Just wow. I'm debating on whether i want to take what they gave back to the other one, just to see what happens. read more

Last time I was here around July the experience was fine, hence the two stars instead of one. This time, however, the employees were gossiping about customers in front of them and then arguing about whether their clothing was cute or not. I overheard two of the employees going at each other over a fur vest. No one was social distancing or ensuring the 25% capacity mandate. When I got my clothes back, the employee made a sarcastic comment about them. To be fair, I don't like them either which is why I'm trying to get rid of them, but the workers should be more professional. read more

I love this location! The staff is so nice. I felt really comfortable talking to them even though I had never been before last week. They helped me to a dressing room immediately when I needed one and they were very friendly people. The prices here are really unbeatable. I found articles of clothing from the brands Adidas, Lazy Oaf, TopShop and more. And they were all only $4-$12. It's crazy how cheap some of the designer stuff is, and it's always in amazing shape, almost like new. Definitely recommend this location to everyone!! read more

If I could leave 0 stars I would... this is the absolute worst place I've ever been to in my whole life. I'm a plus size woman and the disrespect I received in there was horrid. If you're also a plus size woman DO NOT GO HERE. It's full of stuck-up, snobby, young woman who stare and make faces at you. When I would walk down the aisles and say "excuse me", they wouldn't move, just to see me struggle to get past them. When I was on the phone, one of the workers screamed "THE LINES AT THE OTHER END", I said "I'm aware ma'am, I'm on the phone." I wasn't ready to checkout yet, so that was rude and embarrassing. Then, when I get off the phone I hear this young girl walk past me and say the N-word. Mind you I'm visiting here with my African American girlfriend. So, definitely not okay !!! This used to be my favorite place to shop. Until today when I try to come in to sell some things very nice things might I add lots of jeans designer. Couple purses and a few pairs of really nice shoes. They saw me haul my baby in his car seat struggling to get it all in. Nobody offered to hold the door open for me, When they saw me Heading in. They did not purchase one single item from me. Saying that they were out of date or just wear and tear. From what I've heard that seems to be their typical response. I've had ok luck in the past finding good deals for my daughter, but today I tried to sell them items and it was awful! I went in with a tub full of like new american eagle, hollister, forever 21, mostly denim shorts and jeans, I left the tub and within 15 minutes they were done. They bought NOTHING! What really irritated me was I went to pick up, my kid shopped and I saw a ton of Target, TJ Max and other cheaper brands, that were mostly plain colored t-shirts for sale for $10. Their reasoning for not buying from me was the items were past a year old....and yet the store is full of dingy ass old target t-shirts! I'll donate her stuff to goodwill before I drag it all back to Plato's! read more

I'm sorry to say that the experience I had in the South County store was less than positive. I have never sold to a Plato's Closet before and wanted to try to get rid of some items that I no longer wear. Some of the items were older, however no holes, or stains on these items. However, some of the items were brand new and others had only been worn 1-2 times; all from name brand stores. I was disappointed in the fact that none of my items were sold, however, I was even more disappointed in the level of customer service I received from the young lady that helped me. I went to the store on a Wednesday evening, when there just happened to be no customers in the store. From what I could tell, there were approximately 4 young ladies working in the store, one was on the phone when I walked in. I was carrying a rather large box that had all of my items, and as I walked in, the young lady that ended up helping me yelled across the store, "Are you selling items today?" When I replied "Yes." She continued to yell something that I didn't understand. I walked up to the counter where I thought she had beckoned me with words, and placed my items down. As I stood there, she said to me (still having not moved from her original location) "I'm going to have you go ahead and fill out some information on the computer." I continued to stand there and wait for direction, and she said again, "I need you to fill out some information on the computer." When I asked "Where?" she pointed and said "On the computer over there." As I looked around for a computer, I asked her, "I'm sorry, where?" She stated again, "On the computer, and pointed." "Where?" I again asked. At this time, the other young lady that she had been conversing with when I entered the store, stated "The IPad over there." Ah, now I understand. After filling out the requested information, while she was going through my items, I walked over to her, and she told me that it would be about 10 minutes while they went through my items, while she taped up my large box of items, and that I could shop around. Literally, 30 seconds later, she said "I'm all done, and unfortunately, everything has too much wear." I thanked her, gathered up my items and left. The level of customer service I received was extremely disappointing. Given the fact that I was the only customer in the store, and I clearly wasn't sure of what the process was, I thought I would have received a little more assistance. As I was once a young worker, I understand that it was a large inconvenience for this young lady to stop her conversation with her workmate when I entered the store; I find the experience extremely disappointing to the fact that it took so many times for any other workers to join in to assist, when I clearly was not able to communicate with the other worker. My first and last experience at this place of business was an extremely poor one. I hope the store manager is able to use this as a coaching situation for how one ill experience can taint a potential seller and customer. read more

I have come here once every few months to shop, but the staff has never been kind. They are sarcastic, rude, and completely unfriendly. The store is disorganized, and even though they sell "trendy" clothes, a lot of the selection is average at best. I keep coming back because I have found great things, but only after a long time searching. They need to sell a better variety and hire better staff. read more
