Recently went to Plato's closet. I assumed when this place said it was a secondhand store, I would be paying thrift store prices on clothes. This wasn't the case at all but I would be paying three times as much for similar quality clothing. I couldn't find much either. Staff here was friendly. Not much to offer for men either. I've been shopping at platos for years never have I had problems until today. I went with my husband who is disabled to get him some stuff and I was told I could not go in the dressing room with him something I have done in the past because he needs help. she was very loud about it which I find unnecessary. she was a girl with red hair. I have never had this issue anywhere! there were no signs posted stating this so do you make this up cause your having a bad day. maybe you should be more considerate of people with disabilities. it's already difficult and you make it harder! shame on you employee AMK ! Went in to sell. Was not greeted upon entering. I go up and fill out the tag for my bag and the QR code. Let the gentleman working the sell desk know we'll be back. I brought in a huge bag of all Nike, Under Armour, Carhartt in Men's and a few Women's items including brands like Athleta, Abercrombie and Lulu and according to the status tracker, my items were all looked through and finished in less than 2 mins. No stains, tears or wrinkles, all brands on their 'most wanted list'. When I picked up the bag, literally nothing was gone through or taken. The first four items were folded the same way and in the same order. I was a regular customer but will be no longer. Huge fail. One star because otherwise this doesn't go through. read more

Clothing Variety was great, took my daughter here to pick out clothes for her upcoming trip. Employees were fine but, I did overhear certain employees talking about inappropriate ideas. I'm guessing the Manager was informing one of her employees that they can smoke in the bathroom if needed. It is not my business but i'm pretty concerned about management here. read more

I took 2 bags of seven pairs of brandnew jeans, barely worn, billabong ,Lululemon , free people, Hollister, Pascun, and all namebrand expensive items. we brought two full bags of clothing with up-to-date stylish things. all brand new. And they only took three items. probably the worst 3 items in the bag. The first was raggedy camo slippers. A shein crop top and lastly, a crop top that said sunshine state of mind all for a whopping $5.33 so if you feel like taking your clothes there, take the items that you wouldn't expect them to take and give it to them cause they'll probably take it another thing is that they don't like free people or Lululemon apparently or Hollister or Pacsun. and then they told me that they're being more selective even though they picked the worst, and I mean the worst items in the bag. my only reaction was to laugh because there's no way that anyone would buy those 3 items! never go to this location ever again. if I were you, I would stay away. Horrible customer service :/ Didn't even LOOK at my clothes (unless they put everything back exactly the same way I did) and told me they couldn't accept a SINGLE THING "due to style" ? I did some spring cleaning in my closet and picked out 4 bags of clothes. When I brought them in, I was told it would be a while before they got to sort though them. I said that was fine. I was there over 2 & 1/2 hours when a nice young woman said that I should be all set to go. Out of the 4 bags of up-to-date and stylish clothing - a couple things still had the purchase tags on them, as they were never worn - the 2 things that they took were not even close to the nicest items I had brought in. I received a couple of dollars for these things, but the money wasn't the point. I really thought some could use what I brought in. Some of the items included in my 4 bags belonged to my 18 year old niece and were like new and certainly not a dated. when i picked up the bags of clothing that they found unacceptable - all the clothing was still folded and looked to be in the original order that I had placed them in. I don't believe that they even looked thru them. This was a complete waste of time. Very nice items e.g. tank tops and jeans that were purchased from Macy's - and in great condition, were overlooked. When I checked out the merchandise on the floor, almost everything I brought in was in better shape, and better quality. I am a medium size, so it wasn't as if I was bringing in some extremely large or small clothing. I will not be going back to Plato's closet again, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Did a little early Spring cleaning from my closet and figure that I might as well try to get some cash for my barely-used apparel. There were already quite a few people there and had to wait about 20 minutes for them to evaluate my merchandise as they were already in the middle of doing the same for the 2 customers in front of me. Couldn't stand being there 20 minutes as the place smelled pretty bad, had to move out of the way for random people inbetween aisles and the loud teen pop music was too much. When I came back, the girl told me that all of my clothes were in great condition but couldn't get anything for them since some of my shirts had neck sizes and thus not suitable for teens since that's the store's main demographic. Teens wouldn't be interested in a Ralph Lauren beige wool sweater and a classic black polo shirt? Kinda weird I thought. She was still nice about it though. read more

One of my usual Joliet thrifting spots, Platos of Joliet is an upbeat, cheery, clean, and organized Platos. I have never been on an extremely crowded day, but there is a consistent flow of buying and selling traffic. As with the other locations, do not bring your merchandise to sell if you want "fair market value. " You will definitely get pennies for the actual "value" of your used or barely used item. So, forewarning.... Do not go in expecting to sell your items and get rich from it. For example, they offer approximately $8 to $12 for Miss Me Jeans they will resale for approximately $50. And, keep in mind, Platos will only accept name brands currently sold in the mall, like Forever 21, Wet Seal, Buckle, Windsor, Nike, Under Armour, Vans, Converse, Ugg, North Face, etc.... Platos gives a faster return than standing outside doing a garage sale, but you probably earn about the same money. Nonetheless, this is the best thrifting experience for those who have little patience to sift through items. Most merchandise in Platos is not only still trendy, but still in great condition. Be cautious though, because there are always a few things that slip through with a hole in it or stain on it. read more

I took a whole tub of clothes of my sons to Plato's closet. They advertise that they take all brands. I had Hollister, American Eagle, Pac Sun, and Aeropostale's shirts, some with tags on them & never worn. Not worn, no stains, brand new and they didn't take any of them. Had brand new hats also- nothing! What a bunch of bullshit they advertise, I will never recommend this place to anyone. They're frauds!! read more

I love this place! Huge selection of junior/collage age quality brand clothing. Prices can sometimes be a little high on the more popular brands like PINK and Hollister, but for the most part prices are a great bargain. I've scored some cute Arden B dresses for my city nights 60-70% less than what I would've paid for at the mall. Some reviewers complained about the smell of this place, but it really doesn't smell any different from other thrift stores. You wash the clothes when you get home so who cares... I can't see why I would pay $15 for an Aeropostale hoodie I could get for $20 in the store. $30 for obviously used and worn well Bear Paw boots that in 2 months I will be able to get for that price or less. I've been to Goodwills nicer than this place. The people were nice, but it was such a waste of my time. I brought in two full garbage bags of name brand clothes and shoes, they took maybe 10 things and gave me $38 (included converse, under armour hoodies, nike pros, nike leggings, etc). Okay so, my friend and i were getting rid of a lot of newer name brand clothes and decided to donate two bags full to plato's closet. They only opened and looked through one of the bags and said that theyre only taking things that we would currently see in a mall. At least half that stuff, we got from the mall less than a year ago. There were calvin klein leather jackets, brand new skinny jeans and name brand clothes from the stores in the mall. She said some had stains although none did. We double checked. It was very unsettling because then they gave us a card showing what they would be interested in taking. Which literally was the stuff we donated. But whatever we will just give it to goodwill. Who will actually take it and give it to people who need it, for lower prices. Upon entering the store we saw a lot of older, non name brand items right at the entrance. Do not go here to donate clothes, they didnt seem interested in even checking the second bag. read more

This place stinks as far as taking in any of your clothing goes, the only reason I gave them a star was b/c the girl was nice and they didn't have me waiting for more than 30min to tell me that they could not use any of my items (size 6.5 Jessica Simpson pumps, pumps from bakers and Nine West) gently used tops and other items. Don't bother on taking any of your things there unless you just bought it and you got it from a high end store like Holister, Guess, and any where the clothes will cost ALOT. Came in yesterday because I love thrift stores but I barely find clothes I like but this one is amazing is even better than the mall there is so many clothes and so much to look around you have to love shopping and be patient to look all over the place. The sweater area is a little bit crowded because of all the chunky stuff but everything else is incredible. From now on I would go every time I can read more

Very disappointed!!! I brought in a large amount of clothing everything name brand!!! Nike, Abercrombie, hollister, Northface in brand new condition, when I lugged in my first two large bags I asked should I bring in the others, knowing they may not be willing to look through it all, she instructed me to bring it in, she told me about 20 minutes which seemed incredibly unrealistic being that you couldn't even get through the amount of bags I had, after about 10 minutes she let me know she was done. She kept approximately 4 items out of well over 300! What a joke, when I asked if they had a limit on the amount they will accept she assured me their wasn't, completely disagree!! A complete waste of time and not even worth my drive over!!! I would never go back nor support a store that does business this way!!! They where much more interested in getting back to their conversion then adequately looking through my items!! Bags where returned to me not even opened up!!! read more

I went in with a 3 year old. Of course they wait till the last minute to tell you they have to go to the bathroom. It was an emergency. Nope no public bathrooms! It was just last week I was in there with my daughter and a girl asked to use the bathroom and her "friend" that works there let her use it. Plato's Closet in Crest Hill has phenomenal customer service, the workers (Maggie, Ashleigh, Jess Q., Amber, and Teresa) were all so friendly and informative. Have you ever walked into a store and just felt awkward? That is NOT the case at the Crest Hill's Plato's Closet! The amazing staff made me feel welcome and I felt excited to be there. When it comes to the clothes, there is such a wide variety! With the help of Jess and Amber, I was able to find some nice outfits! Not before I was informed of the Bring Your Own Bag Sale! I think if you are going to be extremely picky about what you will and will not accept, you should think about having the teenagers who work there dress a little nicer. Obviously going in there, I know they won't take everything, so that isn't what I'm complaining about. But they never take anything good. Like NONE of the name brands I have, which includes Ralph Lauren, Kate Spade, J Crew, Vineyard Vines. But, they do take random off brand stuff. They took a 6 year old (I mean how old it is, not size) Harvard shirt, in Illinois, random cheap ugly stuff (stuff that I've had at least 5 years and is not fashionable at all). And then you look through the store, and all the stuff is horrible. I'm giving it two stars just because they actually do take some stuff and the salespeople are friendly enough. Even for the stuff they sell, it's overpriced. Alot of the stuff was popular 10 years ago (Aeropostale, Hollister, ect) but isn't anymore. I guess this stuff is for the people who still think it's popular. If you have high end stuff, don't bother. Oh, and whorish dresses are a huge fan fave. read more
