I typically take my clothes in for cash but have noticed that "SB" (name that is on the receipt) doesn't take anything which usually I get it, not everything of mine is beautiful but I've brought in brand new clothing items with tags, including brand new never been worn shoes still in the plastic in the box and I'm told that they can't take them because they are "worn" or "out of date". Only reason I am upset this time in because as I was walking around the store while she went through my stuff is because I saw so many clothing items with stains and shoes with feces on the bottoms and I saw a pair of jeans with a tampon in the pocket. I am beyond upset with the way the employees attitudes are as well. They're only ever "nice" to me when I am with my boyfriend. I'm am constantly receiving nasty looks from the ladies when I am by myself. read more

Always a TON of pieces to choose from. You definitely have to dig, as they seem to not throw out their older clothes that are worn quite a bit. The men's section gets bigger every time I go in, as well as plus size. The staff members are typically super moody and aren't very professional. As far as selling clothes, it's a rip off. No matter how good your stuff is, you can find a consignment store online or anywhere else that will pay much more. ThredUp is the best I have found, fyi! read more

I often come into plato's closet to sell clothes, and not a single time have I had a good experience selling there. Today I came in and was met with no greeting, just glares coming from the employees. When the employee up came to grab my bags, she did not say anything to me. I was looking around the store while waiting for my offer, and the whole time i could employees loudly talking, saying unprofessional words and other profanities. I have nothing against people talking and having fun at work, but when customers are present you shouldn't be cursing and yelling. It should be noted that the only staff that were in there were all teenage girls. Not a single older adult was supervising, leaving the store being ran by only teenagers. When I went up to get my money and see what clothes they wanted to buy, they had only taken a few items (I brought in two bags full of clothes) and offered me 20$ for it. This upset me because most of the clothes I had brought were either barely worn or brand new with the tags still on. However when I looked at my bags it seemed like they only took clothes off the top of the bag, not even looking through the rest of the bags. Overall Plato's closet is a poorly managed place that scams you, and leaves you feeling disappointed every time you leave. read more

I have come here on multiple occasions and sold bags of clothing that is not "old" or in bad condition, and like today they tell me they can't take anythinggggg of mine. Loved this store when they first opened but it has gone down hill ever since. They are super picky now about what they buy but yet the clothes in the store are old, worn, stained, and had holes where there shouldn't be. Felt like I was at a Good Will and not a name brand second hand store. The girls aren't very helpful and a little bit rude. Never told us when they were done looking though our stuff. I have bought and sold things here several times and am always amazed at what they turn down from me and what I find on the racks. I have taken in clothes I have never worn to be told they have "wearing" so they can't purchase but have a hard time finding things in the rack that don't have stains, holes, pilling etc. I can only assume that the the teenagers that work there buy more based on the sellers age and if they know them or not. They claim to give you a certain percentage of what they can sell for but I fail to see how 5 Paris of jeans and 2 sweaters are only worth $20 bucks. When they will sell one pair of jeans for at least $20 if not more. I feel like I go in here once every could years with high hopes and walk out disappointed every time. I always seem to get treated poorly here. I don't understand why. Every single time! The employees are very lazy and would much rather socialize behind the counter instead of helping customers. Really hit or miss when bringing your clothes in. It all depends on what the person thinks is cute, not based on quality of your clothes. I have gone into Plato's Closet on several occasions to purchase clothing. Each time I have been in there the staff have been rude. Albeit, they appear to be caddy high school kids, with no clue on professionalism or customer service skills. I am so disappointed in my experiences in this store! Tonight was the last time I will go in there or spend my money there. It seems the school kids make decisions on who's clothing they accept based on "If" they like them. Seriously?? My fiancé and I were in there tonight when a woman came to sell some of her clothing which the kids refused. After the woman left all these school kids were gathered around the counter laughing and talking about the woman and her tattoo. I understand it's an after school hangout (apparently) but really where is a grown manager?! How is their behavior acceptable on any level? My friends can't hang out at my job and it's never okay to treat a customer like these kids do! We opted to leave and spend our money at Good Will! The clothes in the store though are worn out and not in fashion! The employees didn't even fold the clothes after looking through them! My friends all had similar experiences. Awful! Every time I try to sell my brand name clothing, they won't take any. Tonight I went in to sell 8 pairs of Miss Me jeans that I no longer wear and was told the style was very cute but "unfortunately, you need to know how to wash your clothing better" you're joking. That was not only embarrassing but a lie! I went over all the pants and could not find a single spot. I have sold clothing to Plato's Closet for years, including brands such as Free People, BCBG, and other Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters brands. Unfortunately, I have never had a consistent experience selling with Plato's, where the staff is rude, or otherwise is arbitrary in selecting some clothes and rejecting others. I have also shopped at Plato's Closet for several years, mostly unsuccessfully, as their clothing is mostly worn out and better suited for junior high students. While I was initially excited at Cheyenne's prospects for a secondhand store, Plato's Closet seems mismanaged and inconsistent in service and clothing. Both buyers and sellers would do better to seek independent second-hand clothing sellers in Laramie, Colorado, or other online venues such as poshmark. read more

I have on several occasions tried to sell clothing that is in very good shape. I have been told that they can't be bought because they're not "brand name" or "in style" or "too worn". I generally wear men's clothing and therefore try to sell men's clothing. They have 0 problem taking my Levi's or certain of my shirts; but others don't make the cut. The thing is, I browse while I am selling and come in occasionally to look and let me just say I was completely disappointed. Take for example the bleach stained Nike sweatshirt I saw in there, now imagine my annoyance with the fact that they wouldn't take my impeccably clean American Eagle sweatshirt for "general wear and tear." I also tried to sell a pair of worn once sneakers and was told they couldn't take them due to the brand (it was a name brand) and general wear and tear, I went in the next week and those very shoes in much worse condition were on the shelf. I also tried to sell a pair of low top Converse worn all of twice, again I was told they couldn't take them due to wear and tear; meanwhile there were several pairs of Converse on the shelves that were in horrible shape. It feels as if the people doing the buying are more interested in if they know you rather than if the clothing actually fits he guidelines they are given. This has happened every time I go in to sell. I am very much on trend and I definitely know good quality clothing. I was in just yesterday, browsing and there were *several* shirts that are sold in KMart which were in no better condition than the shirts I have been told cannot be bought which were purchased online or from American Eagle. I gave three stars because honestly, I still do enjoy the selection and knowing that if I liked something in a store 6 months ago I will most likely find it in Plato's Closet if I check and for much less than I would have spent originally. read more
