The gym helps me cope with my divorce. Often I cry at the squat rack so if you see me just give me a moment please. I often tell friends when I turn up to coffee with my eyes swollen and red that someone urinated in the pool again but they know I've been crying again.

As part of Liverpool Council's Lifestyles range of sports centres and gyms, you can see the money…read moreand effort that has been put into this place to bring it into the 21st Century and make it an integral part of the community. The centre has been here for nearly 30 years and was greatly underused except for the many football parties I went to as a kid! Now the gyms are kitted out with state of the art gear, there are regular fitness classes for all levels in the sports hall, two decent sized astro-turfs can be found at the front - and if they are not being used by the local kids they seem to attract a lot of 5-a-side - and a good size pool with sauna and steam room. I can't really knock the place because it is well cheap and is obviously doing a very good job at placing itself at the heart of the Garston community, however, this also measn that the place can be very busy at peak times and it is often very hard to judge when it will not be full of kids! The pool always seems to have school groups or out of hours swimming clubs. While this commendable they also seem to find their way into the gym and will often hang around - or off - much of the equipment! But there is a waterslide!

Ever since I first dabbled into the world of Crazy Golf at Alton Towers, I have been hooked. There…read moreis just something about a group of adults with miniature putters and different coloured plastic balls walking around on fake grass that both amuses and entertains me greatly. When putting together a Weekly Yelp on fun things to do in the city, I spotted Mohamade A's review of this place and bookmarked it for something new to do on a Sunday. After a mad Friday night and busy Saturday, I just wanted to get out of house and do something fun (but not too intensive). Mini golf seemed to be the perfect low energy, silly activity for me and Dan to enjoy. First thing to note, Star City can be accessed by bus but offers plentiful free parking if you plan on driving. I haven't been here in a few years and was surprised to see quite a few newer businesses here (including at least a couple of independents). Adventure Island is at the front of the building and easy to spot with it's clear signage. As we had to get to the supermarket before it closed (ROCK'N'ROLL), we opted to do 18 holes instead of the full course. There are two different courses to choose from and you can do one for £6.45, the full 36 for £10.95 or there are combo deals for bowling and lazer tag as well. We decided on the "Lost Hut Trail" and off we went! Thus proceeded 45 minutes of frustration, fun and giggles around the course. In retrospect, we wish we had done both or opted for the "Hidden Cove" course (which boasts a volcano in the middle), but we will be back to try this at some point. It's of note that the venue has a bar (for golf/beer times) and does a 2-4-1 offer on a Wednesday. It would make a fun place for a date or a birthday party. Yeah, it's not high brow entertainment... but if you want to challenge someone to a duel - there are worse ways than with a miniture putter and a brightly coloured plastic ball. Recommended.

We thought it was going to be empty since it didn't look like anyone was going in or out by the entrance. We were suprised it was full of people. From couples to families. So many different crazy courses to keep you entertained and competitive till the end.

Good to have - but not for me…read more I used to go swimming here on a regular basis. I went to the early bird sessions. I used to go to the sauna on Tuesday nights, too. Mmmmh - how can I say..mmmh, how can I put it!? The changing rooms are a bit dirty to what my standard is concerned - but to get the exercise I turned a blind eye towards it. The young staff was always very busy and hard-working. They need the job / they need the money. For the hairdryer you had to pay extra which I did not like. The lockers were often broken. Mmmh! Sometimes I was in my bathing costume - all I wanted was locking my clothes when I found the door would not lock. mmmh! The showers were okay. In winter sometimes a bit too hot - difficult to regulate the heat, I think. Mmmmh! The sauna - mmh. It was a bit too dry - the heat. The wood was black because people would not sit on their towels like they do elsewhere. Also, I do not like to go to a sauna dressed. No cold water basin or cold pool after the sauna really. Mmmh. I do not like it there. No Aufguss either. The fitness studio - gym - too dark; the equipment is not the latest; tried to get an induction course a couple of time. It never took place. One time a roof had collapsed or a whole because of all the rain. Mmmmmmh! I love fitness, exercising, the gym and I think it is important to keep fit - but the offer is not great here. So I use the Thera band, pezzi ball, bicycle at home. Much better for me.
