Plants Unlimited is, hands-down, the premier nursery in Maine, in my humble opinion! I just went, "Wow!" when I first went there. Their collection of unusual and "exotic" (for Maine) flora is unlike anything I've seen in this state. If there's another, please let me know! What an extensive inventory! Granted, you'll be paying the absolute top-dollar for the rarest of plants and trees. That said, the quality of their plants are top-notched, and when they've got their end-of-summer sale going, it's time to make that landscape splurge!! Can't wait for spring...! read more

I received a marketing email from Plants Unlimited describing the big Sizzling Savings August sale. Among categories they listed one said 30% OFF ALL CONTAINER TREES, SHRUBS, EVERGREENS, & PERENNIALS. There were other categories with similar or even better discounts including balled and burlapped trees, and these were all in capital letters just as shown. Pretty definitive, right? So I drove over an hour there to buy plants. At the register I saw that I'd been charged full price for half the plants I checked out with. Then I was told that all plants tagged "Fresh for Fall" or "Fall is Fantastic" are not discounted. So Fall is Fantastic because you get to pay FULL PRICE for those. Very, very deceptive. I looked at the email and saw that caveat way at the bottom in small print. It also stated there that There is NO GUARANTEE on plants sold at 30% off or more. I don't understand how they think advertising like this will make people happy or result in repeat customers. ALL means ALL. I shouldn't have to read further. It should say right at the beginning that there are exclusions if that's the case. Apparently they don't understand the definition of ALL. And if plants are excluded then put a tag on them that says their excluded. Don't put some other euphemistic tag like "Fall is Fantastic" and leave it up to us to discover that it's a secret code for "Full Price". Possibly with someone not realizing that until they get home. But this is the intent, right? I will never visit Plants Unlimited again. read more

Very good variety and customer service! Pots, trellises, garden art and benches may be a little high but shipping to them is lightly costly too, so paying for the convenience of having the choices right there. Good variety of soil and soil enhancements. read more

GIANT outdoor garden center with every kind of tree, bush, flower, flowering tree, flowering bush, water plant/lily pad, moss, herb, etc. you can imagine. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly when we had questions and gave honest answers about what would or wouldn't thrive in my parents' backyard outside of the area.
