Former Employee and now forever customer. Planted was an excellent place to work. The owner, Laura, does her absolute best to make sure her employees are paid well, respected, and nourished. She surrounds herself with a team that has strengths different from her own and from each other. The quality of their products is top-tier. Laura has invested a lot into finding ethical, high-quality products and vendors. Planted's pricing is fair, and they value plant care above all else. Matching plants to people's needs and abilities was more important than a sale ever was. I only left Planted to pursue graduate school. Whenever I have the chance, I make trips to Dubuque to visit Laura and Planted. Who can say that about their boss? read more

If you like plants, prepare to have your head explode once you walk in here. Thank goodness I only brought my sister and not my wife, because her heart would have exploded. This place is a plant lovers dream. I know a bit about plants, but holy cow it's incredible. Succulents and bigger plants, plant stickers, plant earrings, plants rule ok? Also, the gal working there was exceptionally knowledgeable about plants. Like I would have just assumed she was but then she started spouting off plant facts faster than you can cactus. Unreal how helpful she was in regards to all aspects of how to care for the plants. Thankfully, I got out of there with only a few items, but going forward, I'd be spending a lot more money there! I love everything about this downtown Dubuque business, as it combines excellent customer service and expertise with a beautiful store layout and brilliant creativity. There's a great vibe within the store, and that is a direct result of the staff, as they simply get it, offering assistance without bring pushy and relentless sales people. Street parking all around and plenty of public lot parking within a three-block radius. No brainer for us, easily our favorite place to buy plants in Dubuque County. read more

Although there were some cute and neat plants there, the owner was not pleasant. She seemed annoyed we were there. You can buy the same housplants on marketplace for a fraction of the price from much nicer people. I've been kicking myself all day for spending $62 of hard earned money at a business that doesn't even attempt to make the customer feel welcomed. read more

Every time I go thru Dubuque I make a point of stopping here. As a collector with easily 200 houseplants I appreciate their entire business. The plants are lovely the folks there are so well informed and clearly care about treating the plants well. Interestingly I have an amendment to this. My husband purchased a very very expensive plant from here. One of their previous mother plants. Within two weeks the entire base and root system failed. Not rotting but instead withering away and drying up completely. When the shop was informed they decreed the plant was tip top shape when it left. Interestingly enough one couldn't kill a healthy mature philodendron in two weeks of you tried. Absolutely 180 from what I thought was their standard of service. I have had now 3 plants that had notable issue come from this shop. The issues were preexisting two with rot, One being a monsters albo although I trimmed the roots and repotted which saved the plant. Thankfully I repotted within hours of purchase. The other with rot was a rhapidiforia tetrasperma variegated. Unfortunately I didn't manage to repot for several days which ultimately ended in the plants complete rotting. They did replace the plant rhapidiforia tetrasperma variegated which is what inspired my original review. The Carmel Marble my husband purchased was used as their mother plant for 3 years. Roots came packed in spaghnum in a pot of soil. The pot being 8" the root ball suitable for perhaps a deep 4". You would think a recipe for root rot. Quite the opposite the plant dry rotted from the bottom up within 2 weeks. When they were informed they proceeded to try to project misinformation and immediately question standard care. The solution offered was to have them reboot the plant. Anyone who collects plants knows exactly the minimum price tag on a Carmel marble. My husband was not trying to pay that much for a rescue plant... Anyway. Great plant selection. Some employees there are quite wonderful. Be sure to check your plants before you even leave the property. read more

Had a mandatory team outing, 20 staff, charged everyone individually for potting soil, minimum $8 for a 2" pot. My 4" was $12, a coworker who had one of each paid $20 for what, 2-3 cups of dirt!!! Owner was aware most of us have never been there and I believe she could have been a little more transparent. I think a group rate should have been charged for soil. Our cost per staff member ranged from $82 down to $13, this is with our employer paying first $12. Not a fan of Planted. read more
