Everyone is very friendly and happy, and it's a very positive sort of place. Prices of items vary enormously, which is understandable considering the variety of items for sale. This is definitely a market I'll be going back to. The market is open on the third Saturday of every month, from 7am to 12noon.

Market mortification!…read more It is no secret that I loooove the Adelaide Central Market - it is Adelaide at its absolute best representing all that we do best! Great local produce, excitement, colour, community, ethnicity, multiculturalism etc etc. Michael's Fruit and Vegetable stall tucked away in the north west corner is competitive, reasonably good quality and well laid out. I have been shopping on and off there for years. However in the last year I have become increasingly disenchanted with distasteful and cringe worthy comments directed by most of their staff towards paying customers who have Asian appearance - whether or not they may or may not have been born in Australia. There is a strong sense of irony here given the ethnic origins of Stall 53's owners - 2nd or 3rd generation Australian themselves. The final straw for me was a week or so ago when an Asian tourist was assumed to have no English language and was deliberately insulted by 2 staff members. A shameful and embarrassing encounter that has left a sour taste. I am now boycotting this stall despite its prices as it has soured for me what has always been a truly memorable shopping experience at a truly unique Adelaide institution celebrating wonderfully diverse cultural heritages from all corners of the globe. I am sure the Adelaide Central Market will continue to contribute to our eclectic palates and demand for new food experiences. I will just be making sure I only patronise those stalls reflecting this philosophy.

This is the first time I have visited these markets, I've been a member of the Willunga Farmers Market for a number of months now and having recently move closer to Adelaide needed to find my new organic fix. Not disappointed in the slightest. With a few more stalls then it's Willunga counterpart you are bound to fill your fridge in a jiffy. The veggies and fruit are outside and your meats and baked goods are kept cool undercover. The buzz is hectic with some stalls requiring a ten minute wait in a line. I admit I did not take up this waste of time as anywhere with a line does not deserve my time or attention. This is generally just my motto for pubs and clubs but if the line is too long then it's goodbye wait times. The produce in these stalls did appear nicer and more varied but this will be for testing in later visits. You can become a member for $65 which will get you a discount of 10%. The produce is already quite cheap as you have cut out the middle man who takes his cut at the shops so purchasing a membership will only make your experience even better and a few weekly buys and you've have recouped this money within a few months anyway.

This used to be a really good, vibrant market with up to 200 stalls on an oval. Now will be in…read morethe carpark only, maximum 50 to 80 stalls, queuing up for sellers at 4am, no longer sure that you will get a spot. No longer any variety in stalls, it is now the same people, the same stalls and the same goods each fortnight. There are now to many unhappy people at the market to give this a good vibe. My recommendation is to give this market a miss and try the christies market 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month. I've been a buyer and seller for the last 21 years and will never again attend this big waste of time, but I do feel for the volunteers, it is not their fault. This market by necessity will close soon.

This was my High School. After my time there, BSS began a fundraising scheme of running a car boot sale on the second and fourth Sunday of every month to support the music program I spent so much time with back in the day. The car boot sale is great for both the seller and purchaser and I have been on both sides of the trestle table. As a seller the stalls are very inexpensive as their costs are dictated by car size. The maximum cost is $30 to host a stall, but as I only had a car it cost me $20. This is excellent for those considering a garage sale. You don't have to let people into your house, you get a lot more foot traffic and you don't need to pay advertising costs. About half the sellers are these types of sellers (and I certainly was), the other half are sellers of craft/homemade items, vintage antiques/collectables, trinkets, bric-a-brac, farm produce/hobby farmers, plants, tools/hardware, food, baked goods and sausage sizzle. When I was a kid (pre 90s) there were often 'Trash and Treasure' markets of a weekend, and that's really the sort of market the car-boot sale is. As a buyer, I have found endless amounts of bargains here between the hours of 7am-12pm (sellers arrive from 6am). My mother raves on about how great a deal she gets on plants and how much it doesn't cost her for a bag of oranges, whilst I and my friends magpie for shiny objects and vintage. This is an extremely popular sale so nearby streets seem to be as choc full of cars as the market is. I usually can't be bothered looking for a park or walking my treasures all the way back to a distant car, so I just pay the parking fee (which also gets donated to the music program). The market rotates from the front oval to the back oval to keep the grass fresh, but on some Sunday's they have so many sellers that it spreads to all ovals. At their discretion they run additional Sunday markets in Summer.

Because they buy in bulk, I onced bought a bag of onions for 95 cents! Bananas are gold here as they go for $1.99/kg and the ripe ones which we Asians love eating (cuz their sweeter!) makes perfect ingredients for banana muffins for lunchboxes. Stock up on watermelons for the coming hot summer days as they go for 99cents here! Are you still standing or have you fainted? The range of leeks, spring onions, usual herbs and veges are absolutely cheap, plentiful and the shop assistant is always willing to give you an extra discount if you buy more. If I'm not mistaken, any purchases above $20 receives a free tray of eggs. Imagine all the gorgeous Spanish omelette you could make with those cheap 99cents onions. Ah, perfect in so many ways. Find them just behind Coles, at Edwardston.

Besides fresh produce, the store offers flowers, a large variety of cheese, some small goods, frozen fruit for smoothies, and healthy snack choices. During Mother's Day and the Christmas season, the store becomes a busy center where many people shop for different products, so it's wise to plan your visit or come early to skip long lines. As City Folk having a getaway weekend in Goolwa, this little market run by the local Rotary Club on…read morethe foreshore of the town, is a really pleasant way to spend a morning in a peaceful seaside town. It's not somewhere you'd do your weekly shop or even grab a hearty breakfast or lunch, but it does have a lovely selection of home made, home grown and bric a brac pulled out of peoples sheds and laid out onto tables. Prices are very cheap and you can find some lovely gifts or things for the home. I picked up 2 handmade soaps for $8, some chocolate port for $12 and a huge punnet of strawbs for $4. If you are dedicated enough you can pick up some interesting vintage finds like old shell casings, compasses, vases and the like for reasonable prices too. Or if you are so inclined, go early and get to the baked goods before they all sell out by 12pm. It's not Victor Harbour Farmers or Adelaide Hills Market quality but it is a little twee and a perfect way to spend a sunny Sunday in Goolwa amongst a friendly, laid back community!

Market magic! I love…read moremarkets generally but in particular Farmer's markets. I love finding out what's in season, who's growing what where and trying all the local home baked produce. Willunga Farmers Market is a one of the oldest - setting a hard to beat bench mark for many that have followed since including Wayville, Victor Harbor and the Market Shed and the new markets popping up everywhere in the 'burbs. Willunga has a bohemian, hippyish flavour however also caters for the wider community of non vegan or food intolerant! Case in point - Lina's sumptuously sweet and sticky Greek sweets. 55 producers share their wares every Saturday morning - bread sells out immediately - I don't think I've every gotten there early enough to take my pick! Last Saturday we sampled and bought 4 different types of recently dried sultana grapes and muscatels; bought some kale seedlings to grow at home; honeycomb (mangowood and blue gum) for a cheese plate; vanilla bean enhanced candied honey; lavender fudge and brownies; freshly picked, unwaxed and unsprayed Pink Lady apples; a punnet of luscious strawberries from Mt Compass; huge heads of new season broccoli; locally produced "fresh and grassy" olive oil and basil pesto. We finished our morning's forage with a Warrakilla Portuguese tart and a freshly made "cap" from the coffee stall. Willunga Farmers Market is an institution in the Fleurieu and showcases the areas plenitude of local producers. For us townies a trip down south is the ideal excuse to buy the week's seasonal supplies and then indulge in a very special gourmet breakfast, brunch, lunch or picnic!!

My first stop is always Flour Power bread. You need to get in quick if you want a pesto scroll, they fly off the shelf. I also really love their pasta dura. It's made with olive oil so it freezes really well and it makes the best buschetta! This market it pooch friendly so come om down with Fido or Scooby checkout what is in season, have a coffee and sample the local goodies. you won't be diddapointed.

My best friend AT is exactly right - there is something different and better about these organic fruits - it's so much more sweet, tasty and you can feel the difference walking in here compared to another day walking around the supermarket fruit&veg aisles. Organically Grown was highly recommended by my personal trainer and I was amazed to even discover that the customers inside went out of their way to talk to you and ask me what I was looking for. It was really pleasant to have a feel for the Magill community and shop assistant inside this small shop and you can really sense that people in this area have different taste, personality, conversational skills and knowledge! I was really happy to hear advice from the local Magill customers, since I told them it was my first time trying out organic products. I even noticed that the cash register lady had quite a slim waistline! :) Stores like this make me so thankful for the privilege of studying, working, shopping and being part of the local community of Magill! I completed my Postgraduate degree here in Magill, and is one of my favourite suburbs in SA, and it's only 10 minutes away from Adelaide CBD!
