After not being able to get a gynecology appointment for more than two months, we reached out to Planned Parenthood, who scheduled an appointment the next day! Staff were courteous, helpful, and caring. We were able to resolve our issue and schedule further testing at UCSF. What an amazing resource. And, the facilities were top notch--clean, new, welcoming. All staff were warm and most of all listened. They are for women's health of all ages. We are well past are child-rearing or child-bearing years. Women's healthcare needs extend for their entire lives. Thank goodness for Planned Parenthood. They are a much needed resource. read more

Unskilled doctors. When I didn't have insurance, I went here to inquire about birth control options and decided on an IUD. They inserted a Mirena into what I later found out was my fully septate uterus - that was after they gave me an ultrasound and while still using one to "place it properly." My gynecologist was shocked when I told her, and said this not only would not have prevented pregnancy, but the device could have easily perforated my uterus or gotten lodged in the septum. Thankfully I didn't have it in for a long period of time. read more

Luckily I had the privilege to check out a location in south city as this one in sf kept canceling on me, the receptionist were rude and need to be retrained. I honestly hate this location. At first I would come because insurance issues but they will take up to an hour or more to see you WITH an appointment. Multiple times I've waited for over an hour to be seen. Plus the staff is divided, half have an attitude of not wanting to be there or help. If you get lucky you come across someone helpful. Go here if you must but if can avoid it like a plague. read more

I've been to this location twice. The first time was OK they took a very long to get people checked in and the second time was the same. I also was kept in the waiting room for over 20 minutes and no one came in to check in and let me know they were running late. I had to get dressed to go back out and ask what was going on or if I was forgotten about. Several girls were outside the room laughing and talking in a circle, didn't ask if I needed help or anything, after I asked one said was "oh sorry they're running a little behind". That's understandable but to not check in and let your patient know when there's lots of people around standing in a circle feels negligent. If you plan to come here I would set aside at least two hours of your time because they seem to run late consistently. read more

Level of care is good, communication is excellent. Wait times can sometimes be a bit long, but not much more than other drs offices. They told me that they accept Anthem Blue Cross Pathway EPO (Covered CA), however they are not in-network according to my insurance. Only Planned Parenthood Mar Monte is in-network with Anthem Blue Cross Pathway EPO. read more

The staff here are amazing, kind, and patient. I was helped by Michael (nicest man ever - totally made me comfortable the entire time). I'm blanking on the name of the specific RN I am thinking of - but we bonded over having the same zodiac sign. Overall, they were super supportive and made me very comfortable during my procedure. I have health and needle anxiety and I was fine the entire time - even though I had to get an IV in my hand (not as bad as you think) and a shot in my cervix. Pain management was more than ample - and I was told this is a safe place to advocate for more meds if necessary! read more

Going to planned parenthood can be kind of daunting, but I had a great experience. The building is clearly located on Bush, and is very clean and modern. You have to take the elevator to go up to the second floor to check in, but the receptionists were extremely nice and patient, and were very good at asking questions discreetly. I made an appointment and there was about a 30 minute wait to be seen (which I was told about), but when I finally went into the room, there was very little time spent waiting for the clinician. Overall really great staff, the provider was so helpful and kind, and good experience. read more

Wow, planned parenthood. The front desk people were mocking and so mean to a college kid who came for health care and left her documents on the other side of town after a bus ride. She left the office in full on tears and was trying to figure out how to ride the bus back an hour to her college, actually shaking, she was so upset. She was denied care and so distraught about what to do next since this is not her hometown. I got her an uber. Why would you do that to a young kid? I'm so grateful for PP being open during the Covid-19 crisis. Thank you, PP! I recently lost my job and health insurance and was very anxious about my visit. But I was able to make an appointment easily over the phone, they had proper social distancing set up in the waiting room, everyone including patients wore masks, and Claudia and Allison were so extremely nice, helpful, and thorough. The worst experience i've ever had!!! Firstly the asian girl at the front desk super rude!!! Definitely need to teach her respect and teach her how to greet when you have a line of people! And if someone asks for help you don't roll your eyes at them you work in healthcare!!!! The lady next to her had curly hair she was nice and attentive and seemed like she was in charge. We need more people like her. The wait time is ridiculous my appointment was at 6:10 i didn't go inside till 7:00 get inside they talk to me and tell me there going to get my pills around 7:10 and finally brought them to me at 8! LIKE WHAT??? How long does it take to grab some pills they came and took the trash out and cleaned the room i was in. Why not try to get us out of here before doing all of that. read more

I recently came in to get a medical abortion and the staff was so friendly and informative. I was able to get all my medication that day, and was surprised by how easy and efficient everything was. Worst experience at a planned parenthood! They had me wait in the waiting room for an hour .. then I finally approached the lady at the front desk who happened to be the manager and asked how much longer it would take to be seen and she said 5 mins so I said okay... then I finally get in a room and I asked the assistant how long it would take for the clinician to come in the room to which she said 15 mins... so I asked if she could let the clinician know that I was on a time frame and had a ride waiting on me, the lady said she would let them know. She returned 5 mins later to inform me that the clinician had gone on break and wouldn't see me for another 30 mins to an hour .... Not including the time needed for the service... this was beyond frustrating and unprofessional.. their lack of communication and scheduling is very disturbing read more

This is a long overdue 5 star review for this center for sexual health super stars! Unfortunately I just switched to Kaiser and am no longer covered with planned parenthood and it is like losing a dear friend. Making appointments was so simple and easy, there were always available times, the wait never felt too long mostly because they play the BEST movies in the waiting room-which, let's talk about the waiting room and the rest of the clinic. It's immaculate. Stunning. Comfortable. Always perfect temperature in there. Super friendly and SUPER knowledgeable staff. I always felt seen, heard, and respected by every staff member I interacted with. For instance, I wasn't due for a pap but I had a ~feeling~ which is not medical reason for an undue pap but they trusted me and BOOM! HPV, baby. They immediately took all the necessary steps and I felt very confident in their hands. I am going to miss this place dearly, they made it really fun and easy to take my sexual health seriously. The women at the front desk are very very rude. Planned parenthood is supposed to be a safe place for young women, they made me feel so dumb! I'm a college student and they treated me like i was so stupid for not having my insurance card. The asian woman and the other girl both left me feeling helpless. I had an amazing experience at planned parenthood today. I knew it would be a long wait until the actual procedure was performed but it was well worth it. All the women here were extremely kind, caring, and knowledgeable. The women were extremely supportive. Each of the nurses felt like a trust-worthy girl-friend that was there to make sure I was comfortable, not in any pain, and aware of my options. Thank you so much ladies for laughing with me and keeping me distracted when I needed it. Your smiling faces and positive energy truly make a difference in what would typically be a scary procedure. I also really appreciate that planned parenthood has so many options to ensure the costs are affordable for everyone. Although my insurance did not cover this, I qualified for a 20% discount based on income which was great. With that said, I would pay more to come to planned parenthood instead of somewhere cheaper/covered by insurance purely because of all the positivity and support I received from all the amazing women who helped me today. read more

Planned Parenthood, you blew my birth control-loving mind. It was a bleak Saturday, mid-morning, an animated movie starring a rat playing in your waiting room, an inappropriate male would-be partner beside me--the rain outside coming down in buckets. So perfectly Planned Parenthood. Except that it was great. The wait was short, though the visit was long, and I distinctly remember the sound of waves crashing down on me while I waited to answer delicate questions about my sexual history. Without even taking any clothes off! Go figure. Was it the best surprisingly-not-shame-inducing doctor's appointment ever? Yes. Did I get anything for free? Well... no. But you women, all with your glasses and nice hair and kindness, you were so damn nice that I didn't mind fronting the cash (I say cash but really it was a debit card) for the visit or the two months' worth of baby-free pills. I say with this with love: I hope I don't have to come back, but I sure as hell won't mind if I have to. read more

I am a health professional myself (doctor). Experience and compassion are important to me. I needed an IUD changed, among other lady things, so I had the choice of big-name facilities (UCSF, Stanford, CPMC). Contrary to what may be expected of me, I always prefer to go to Planned Parenthood - I would rather pay out-of-pocket for their experience, expertise, and compassion. I would like to support this business for what they stand for and believe in. For a procedure such as an IUD change-out, it was actually difficult for me to find a provider at the big-name facilities who would do this for me. I am also unsure if these practitioners would be performing this procedure on a regular basis! I knew that PP would be the best choice and the most experienced, and I was right. They do this every day, multiple times a day. The procedure was nearly painless and I was very satisfied with their knowledge, friendliness, and clean facility. Maybe I break anonymity by writing here but I just though I had to gush about what a great experience I had. Since being laid off and unemployed I've had to do a lot of things I wouldn't otherwise do, and for me, that's hard. When my insurance ran out and I couldn't afford Cobra I was worried about what I'd do when my birth control ran out. I tried to go to this San Mateo County Health clinic thing (I live in the city but my official permanent address is in san mateo county) and it was no good. I was embarrassed, felt exposed to the elements, and while I was waiting this drunk homeless person kept talking to me. Not that that's the worst thing in the world, but when you're already worried about stuff and feeling pretty low, it doesn't make things easier. This was the opposite of that experience. Planned Parenthood was very nice and clean and it was really quiet. All the people I interacted with (yes, even the usually grumpy front desk check-in people) were REALLY friendly and nice. They smiled and treated you with respect. Which I can't even say about a normal doctor's office. I just felt like it was a really quiet, respectful place that sympathized and helped. read more

Mixed feelings about it. Yes, they helped me, but I found them to be not 100% straightforward with me. First they said they don't accept walk-ins. When I insisted, they accepted, said its going to be a long wait...which turned out all of 30mins (on Saturday morning) Second, they asked for insurance, which I had, but didn't take my information, and after I had my exams done, I got the bill, and they told me they don't process insurances, so I have to do it myself. Not a good surprise. So, In the course of the visit, i found out that Not all Planned Parenthoods are created equal. I'll be going to ones on the peninsula, which are much more patient-friendly. read more

I've been to this lovely Planned Parenthood twice so far. It's clean, inviting and during my last visit I did not experience a very long wait. I also somewhat miraculously got my appointment the same day I called because they had a cancellation, but normally I would advise calling ahead. Appointments do fill up quickly. The staff is so friendly and courteous; they made me feel very comfortable. I went in to get a prescription for birth control pills and, to my surprise, walked out of the clinic with a year's supply in my purse. Completely free! Who knew it could be so easy?
