Mt. Baker Planned Parenthood is great. I really support the whole organization, their mission statement and their goal to provide affordable/free reproductive health services to all women and girls (men too) who need it. Particularily low income women. As far as the Mt.Baker clinic in Mount Vernon is concerned I've never once had an issue and I've been going for almost 10 years. I first went when I was 14 or 15 to get put on birth control and because I was a minor who had no money or insurance they made sure I had access by enrolling me in the 'Take charge's program. I stayed on it up until 19 and after that I've used my Medicaid and now CHPW apple health insurance. I've been to this clinic many times for a plethora of things at their old little clinic on college way to their now bigger new clinic on division St. Like I said ive got birth control from them since I became sexually active as a teen (they are great with minors because it's all confidential, they call from blocked numbers & never identify themselves on the phone unless they know it's their patient and NOT the patients parent, although my mom knew what I was up to and was thankful for the clinic) I've been in for STD testing a few times, got treated for chlymidia when one of those tests came back positive. I've gone to them for my first pap smear, another exam to get checked and then treated w/antibiotic prescription for BV (which isn't fun to have, neither is the exam but it has to be done)... Let's see I got an HIV test that only required a prick of the finger & no drawing blood, results back in 10 mins. I've had a breast exam as well and a referral for an abortion. I've always made appointments in advance so the wait time has been no longer than 15 mins, never did a walk in. Love the whole staff. Front desk make me feel comfortable with questions and the medical staff is great an very professional and open. If I could I would find a way to volunteer, advocate, protest, or even March on Washington for planned parenthood after all this flack they've been getting after those heavily edited false videos made by the 'Center for medical Progress' which is really a Pro life group (more like anti choice) and the lies spread by the conservative right & Christian groups about PP selling baby parts, doing late term abortions, being an abortion mill/factory is so off that it's disgusting me. Only 3% of what PP does is abortions, the rest is extremely needed medical reproductive care that low income women wouldnt otherwise get. The fact that this incredible organization has been fought tooth and nail, investigated constantly without cause (& found no wrong doing) and had straight up lies spread about it to incite hatred, ignorance and violent rhetoric. Between all Pro life groups, Republicans in office, Carly Fiornia, and that damn Bill O'Reilly they've cause so much violence. The recent Colorado PP shooting was done by a mentally disturbed man (terrorist) who watched fox news 24/7 and bought into the thought that the fake video about selling baby parts was true. When it came out to be false, fake, and those responsible were criminally charged the right wing media down played it and never corrected their snap judgments which led to that guy thinking it was true and he was saving babies by shooting the place up!! Years ago Bill O'Reilly nicknamed one of the best premier abortion doctors, George Tiller, tiller the baby killer. After doing enough stories on him, propagating lies about what George tillers medical practice was actually about, some pro life group member went and shot Tiller at church. O'Reilly never once admitted on TV that George Tiller only did late term in the case where the mothers life was in severe danger or if the baby had such a dysfunctional disease that it would live a very short life (hours, a few days) in great agony before dying and that in order for these late term abortions to occur they had to be approved by 2 separate doctors (not affiliated w/tiller) and that these women wanted their babies but just couldn't have them. He never mentioned that. And it ties into PP because the Republican majority in Congress is trying to defund it which would leave tens of millions of women without access to contraceptives, pap smears, STD testing/treatment, uterus & cervical issues and basic health care that could save their lives. read more
