Poor Planet Pet! It seems like the owner wants so badly to have a wonderful neighborhood pet store. Something just didn't click. Let me say that they try to offer a wonderful selection of higher-end dog and cat food and I really appreciate it. In fact, their prices are usually 1-5 dollars cheaper a bag than some of the other local pet stores that carry the same brand. The problem is with their ordering. They don't keep up with replenishing what they sell. I have 3 large dogs and usually foster 1-2 smaller dogs at a time. That's a lot of food a month! I go in to buy 30-35 lb. bags at least twice a month. At one point I literally told the manager "Keep this food stocked, and I'll keep coming to buy it." and told her how much I buy on a monthly basis. That worked for a little while. They always run out of the formula I feed and they stay out of it for weeks, sometimes months. They sell fish, birds, rats/mice, some other various reptiles/amphibians, and people are allowed to call and see if they can bring in litters of unwanted kittens to give to the store to re-home. So usually you can find a few kittens running around the place too. It definitely smells like a pet store so be prepared! The really big thing that keeps me from frequenting Planet Pet so much is the customer service. I should say "what customer service"? The employees are all 16-23 with big adolescent chips on their shoulders. They act like it's the worst job ever and you are bothering them each time you want to purchase something. Many times you have to actively seek out someone to ring you up because nobody will come up front to greet you when you come in. Every once in a while a nice person will be working, but it's so rare that I'm actually shocked when it happens. The store general manager is so friendly and approachable I have no idea why she chooses to hire the kids that she does. I'm 100% sure it hurts her business. read more

Ummm where to start, most of the fish tanks are unhealthly with either dead floaters in them or passive fish mixed in with aggressive, tanks are unlabeled or mislabeled with species and or pricing, this goes for live plants as well as fish. The staff doesn't know what they have or what they're getting in. They don't seem to care either, when I went it seemed like a bunch of high school or post high school kids working for beer money. you'd be better off drive down dixie highway a bit more and going to world of pets. read more

This establishment gets "0" stars from me. I bought 2 Rabbits, 2 Guinea Pigs ( one was pregnant ) and a Rat. I also bought cages, food and bedding. All for my daughters 10th birthday. She loves animals, she takes very good care of her animals. Let me be clear these were not her first animals. Nevertheless, I bought these animals in November of 2013. The mom guinea pig gave birth a couple weeks later in November. 4 out of 6 animals are DEAD!!! Even the baby. We had them for 3 months when they started DYING OFF. We are down to 1 Rabbit and the Rat. Now I have to take the Rat in to my veterinarian to test for RAT BITE FEVER, considering the overall health of the other animals that are DEAD!!! As you can imagine I spent well in to the hundreds of dollars for pets that were DEAD within 3 months of purchasing them. I would like to know what kind of care they are taking to insure the pets are healthy. Do they even care? I say NO they are out for MONEY !!! And unfortunately for me and my daughter they ripped me off and sold me sick pets. As for the staff, I could care less! Whoever owns this place needs to be shut down!!! I have been going to Planet Pet since I was young and I remember when they used to have dogs and kittens out of their cages to let them run around and stretch their legs. The people I've seen there have been very nice with letting me just look around and play with the animals there, as well as asked if I needed anything. I've never had an awful employee before. It is true about young employees, but that isn't a bad thing to me. Their pets always have clean rooms to what I've seen and they take care of the animals whenever they can. i personally like this store. read more

Horrible customer service. The owner doesn't even seem like he really knows how to interact with people. Every time I have gone in there trying to give them another chance, I have been reminded of WHY I don't go in there. It is an awkward environment from the time you walk in. The staff, including the owner, make you feel like you are bothering them if you have questions or need assistance. Fish tanks are not well maintained and they have not had marine fish in a long, long time--so they should probably stop advertising it. This store is a complete joke!!!! I used to love this store until the little girlfriend came into the picture and acts like she owns the place. She is ridiculous and she acts like she knows everything but she is clueless! I thought she was nice until I went in today to pick up the birth certificate for the ferret that I bought in February of this year. I went in four times to try to find out when my ferret was born and today she was rude as hell to me like I was totally bothering her. Now, after thinking about it, I wish I would have said something to her face. I also bought a ferret in December of 2012. They gave me a birth certificate saying he was born 8/26/2012 but after looking through my paperwork, the brochure says he was born 9/9/2012. So which is it? They hire incompetent teenagers who have no idea what they are doing and who really don't even care about helping the customers. I paid $150 for each of my ferrets and I love them to death but now I wish I would have taken my business elsewhere. It was my right to have a birth certificate telling me when my pets were born but apparently I put her out. I was always a loyal customer but after today I will never go back. I live 2 minutes from Planet Pet so I have shopped there for convenience. I am a dog owner and a tropical fish hobbyist. I stopped by yesterday to add some fish to my son's tank he got for Christmas. Not one of the employees looked old enough to be out of high school so I decided to check out the fish on my own. Needless to say I made no purchase. Limited stock, cloudy water in some tanks and a dead floater who had been dead awhile. My fish at home look much healthier. The owner needs to address these issues because of pressure from competitors. I would like to shop there but convenience isn't everything. read more

I agree about the poor service and having to hunt someone down for help. However, the worst problem for me was I accidently had a check returned to them. Long story short, the owner turned it over to the Kenton County Attorney. I forgot to take payment to them on the due date. I immediately called the next day and was told only the owner could help me. I asked if I could just bring the cash up for them to give him and again was told only the owner could take care of that and he wouldn't be in until Monday. Ok, fine. I called Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday each time missing the owner but talked to the manager two of the days. When I finally spoke with the owner he had "just this morning" returned it to the KC attorney. He said he tried to contact me at the numbers I left, but, if so, he did not leave a message. So after talking to someone at the KC attorney office, I was told to have cash to them before 3:00 p.m. or it would be handed over to a judge, assigned a court date, AND be on my record. REALLY?!? My beef is this man knew I was trying to make things right. Why else would I have tried to reach him so many times? Why have a "manager" if that person isn't allowed to act in situations like this, especially when the owner is only at the store in the morning when most people are working. All this crap for less than fifty-five dollars. I will NEVER shop there again, nor will any of my family or friends. I readily admit i made the check mistake, but was trying to make it right. read more
