First time ever joining a gym, and decided this was the simplest way to start. Plus it's not even a 1/2 mile from my house, my workout starts from home. . Jordan was really nice in helping me get started a couple of days ago, so I ended up joining on line (much easier). So going today was nice (small crowd), and the machines, stations, free weights I desired were available. Everything was clean, and it seems that everyone abides by the rules, and is in and out. Easy to get in and scan my black card, a quick change and then the 30 minute circuit. Afterwards, a good shower. Enough room for stuff and clean. This was a good stop today. I like this gym, I am here every morning from 4:00am-6:00am. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD TURN DOWN THE MUSIC! It is SO UNBELIEVABLY LOUD. I had my headphones, $200 Beats, at FULL BLAST, yesterday morning with heavy rap music being played and still couldn't drown out the Rockbot trash music. If you INSIST on playing the world's worst music, fine. But at least play it at a volume that can be drowned out. I seriously do not understand why, when reviews all over online say the music is horrendous, you continue to play it. I asked a worker, Austin, to turn it down and he said he didn't know how. Just joined and signed up online for a black card membership. I did this because I was especially interested in the access to a fitness trainer that is supposed to be included in this level of membership. I went for the first time today and was told there is no trainer and Thayer do not anticipate hiring a new one. This is incredibly disappointing. Generally the facility is clean and welcoming and I look forward to my membership, but specifically joined for the feature that is not actually available. read more

The Springfield location is SO CLEAN. I only saw two employees on duty when I was there, but somehow they managed to keep the place immaculate. The locker rooms in particular were impressively clean. There's plenty of equipment for everyone and the place wasn't crowded. I was there from 7:30-9:30 PM and didn't have to wait for any of the weight machines. Five stair masters, dozens of treadmills and ellipticals and at least two of each strength machine. They have a completely separate and secluded room for stretching, which is great. It's quiet and there are mats, balls and other stretching equipment. No stretching cages though. The women's locker room has a locker area, toilet stalls, changing stalls, shower stalls (including an accessible one), sinks with vanity mirrors, plus another well lit counter and mirror area with hairdryers, specifically for doing makeup and hair. The showers are nice and large, with rainwater shower heads and a small shelf for your stuff. No soap dispenser though, so be sure to bring your own. read more

My first experience is NOT good. I came in to get signed up. It took forever and a day. Then I was given a business card, with phone underlined and told to call to make appt with trainer. So, the next day, I called and was told, no I had to use an app or come in! I had been there! Left message for person who had told me to call. After almost 2 weeks, she has not returned call. Then I called and left message for manager. That was about 5 days ago and SHE has not returned call. So I am not impressed with customer service here. They need to get their stories straight on how to sign up for trainer. I've been there twice now and still have not been able to sign up for trainer. So I get a response telling me to talk with manager. Did you not read what I wrote? I have tried to reach her and she won't return call. I joined this gym in July 2018. In August 2018, there was a man staring at me both in the gym and then again while masturbating in his car in the parking lot. I told someone at the desk (this was a month and a half ago now, so I don't remember who. However, I havent seen her since.) Last night, there was a man parked DIRECTLY next to me, naked, masturbating. I am quite certain this was the same man. I addressed him, he ignored me. I called the police. No arrest was made, no looking into who he is or whether or not he's even supposed to be there. I no longer feel safe at this gym. I've only been a member for two months and need to cancel. I refuse to put myself in danger or be subjected to sexual harassment. I requested my annual fee be returned to me for this specific reason. I am not canceling because I just don't like the gym - I'm canceling because I fear for my safety. Came in on July 4th to find one employee for the entire club. With Covid protocols in place, I would expect to see employees wiping down equipment, but today's lone worker told me he gave everyone the day off. He added that he'll wipe down at closing. He seemed to have little problem with the dilemma this might pose if an infected person came in and contaminated multiple areas of the gym. Earlier ithe week, even with a full staff, I saw very little disinfecting going on. If using this gym, I would be very careful and spray down every piece of equipment before and after using. This gym is not safe. 7/11/20 I was kind of inspired by the reply from "Zeke" at Planet Fitness. I emailed him, sharing my experience at the gym, and even volunteered to pull my review if they would like. Considering that they were aggressively addressing this club's lack of Covid safety, I figured it was only fair. Never got a reply, but worked out today (one week after my review) and found nobody disinfecting equipment and machines. Plus, it looked like just one person was working on Saturday AGAIN! In addition, the club was really warm inside! It's clear these people aren't serious. Take my advice and spray down everything you touch, before and after! If a Covid-positive person does wander into this club, I fear there won't be much standing in the way of others catching this virus. Planet Fitness' Covid posting claims to disinfect between customers, but trust me, this is not happening. Be careful and disinfect-Planet Fitness DOES NOT have your back! read more

I'm a member of PF in Jax Beach Florida. I'm in town for 2 weeks and wanted to work out at the club. I was aware that you need a black membership ( extra $3.00 a month ). I tried to upgrade but was told I needed to go to the club I joined at and full out papers in person. Since I wasn't going to fly back to jaxksonville I asked what program do you have or what can I pay for daily rate and was told I can't work our there under any conditions. Great loyalty to a guy who is a member and wants to work out. I joined Planet Fitness in December for the main purpose of using the 30 minute express workout as well as bikes and treadmills during winter months. I found the staff VERY friendly, the facility impeccably clean, and the 30 minute express room well set up with machines and cardio step stations to get a great strength/combo workout done. It was ruined for me because EVERY time I went, there were continually those who would come in who were not doing the workout which totally interrupts keeping heart rate elevated as workout is intended. The sign indicating that the room is only to be used by those doing the workout AND regularly monitored is very small. Each time I ratted out an offender, while very apologetic, it continued. Instead of feeling energized and full of feel good endorphins from a good workout, I go out frustrated and ready to blow it on having a beer to chill out!!!!! Especially disappointed that there is no other option in Springfield.. The Curves locations are all closed now, and if I wanted to join the one remaining in Chatham, I expect the price would be way higher than PF. Epic Fail, PF!! read more

I am not happy. Planet fitness charged me on March 16,2020. My payment date was 17th of each month since I joined. They did this because they were being forced to shut down for pandemic. I called on March 17,2020 because they were closed. Called ever week since then. No answer. I guess I took the staff at this location for granted... this location is always so clean and I really didn't know how much we'll the staff took care of the gym until I move to the Chicago area. I now go to the Oak Lawn location and the bathrooms are GROSS. After I see dirty toilets in an establishment it makes wonder how dirty he rest of the place is. I've been going to the one on Wabash for 4 years. It has now changed, while the staff are fair & try, the clients are now becoming rude and disrespectful to others needing machines. Number one problem Cell phones. Many now sit and scroll while relaxing and disregard the amount of time they waste while trying to find their fav tune to work out by. This is a huge problem there. What used to take me 35-40 minutes now takes an hour. The next problem, lifters dont remove weights anymore. They walk away and leave hundreds of lbs on the units. and...now small groups sit and b.s. while not using the units but take up the space as they are. read more

Started with Planet Fitness just like every other person, to get in shape and to lose some weight. The machines were always very clean, the locker rooms were very nice, etc. However, I made the switch to another area gym for two huge reasons: 1. The pizza nights, candy sitting around on tables, bagels, etc. I don't see how having pizza and other high calorie foods sitting around a gym is conducive to what people there are doing - I went to lose weight, not spend thirty minutes on an elliptical then be tempted to blow it all on pizza. 2. The whole feel of Planet just threw me off. The "Lunk Alarm" really killed me. I switch over to more resistance/weight training and was always afraid to breathe heavy, watch myself in the mirror, etc. I just felt like PF was a place for just casual working out, I was looking to be pushed and that just wasn't happening there. I ended up switching to a gym that offers a bigger gym, more qualified personal trainers and actually lives and breathes what a gym is supposed to embody - helping people reach their fitness goals. However, I will say that the staff at Planet Fitness was always extremely friendly and quick to answer any questions that you may have. If you are looking for just a casual place to workout with nothing too serious in mind, Planet Fitness is the place for you. However, if you are looking to do some serious work, I would suggest another gym. read more
