I was looking forward to having some good Indonesian food for lunch while on a day trip to the Netherlands, but unfortunately, most of the Indonesian restaurants in Delft are only open for dinner. Plan B, appropriately named, was the only one I could find that was open.
I chose this restaurant based on reviews, and when I got there, I wasn't sure I was at the right place. From the outside, it looked like a bar, and the sign just said "Plan B Wine and Beer." Even upon entering, I had to scan my surroundings pretty hard to confirm that it was an Indonesian restaurant. They had Bintang beer and a few Indonesian pictures on the walls, so that was a tipoff that I might be in and Indonesian restaurant.
I was hoping for some rijsttafel to introduce my family to Indonesian food, but the lunch menu at Plan B was very limited. We ended up getting gado-gado (warm vegetable salad) and satay ayam (chicken). The satay and peanut sauce were excellent, but it came with the worst lontong (rice cake) that I've ever had in my life. The lontong was oddly fluffly and mushy, very poorly cooked. The gado-gado was OK, but not very authentic. It seemed to come with raw lettuce, and it didn't have any potatoes or tempeh in it.
Service was decent, and the waitress was kind enough to offer to translate parts of the menu from Dutch to English for us. They don't take credit cards.
It wasn't the worst meal ever, but I will definitely seek out other restaurants the next time I'm in Delft. read more
