WeekDAY 4 stars - still too crowded though. WeekEND I would avoid 100% : 0 stars. Ridiculously overcrowded. Beautiful sand, beautiful water! I was initially bummed that it was so shallow and stays shallow foreverrrrrrr, but that actually turned out to be absolutely lovely, relaxing and warm so I've changed my opinion. Nice full service bathroom at beach, outdoor rinse stations at bathroom too. Though, you will take half the beach home with you in your bathing suit no matter how hard you try not to. Crowded with the crème de la crème of socially inept morons. Unfortunately part of the reason it sucks here. Talkin' ZERO concept of buffer space or personal bubble. Also: Too many friggen rules! No glass bottles, no music, no dogs, no smoking/smoking areas not at all clear to me. I mean I broke pretty much all of the rules I didn't agree with anyways (and didn't get caught, hence not reprimanded), but still made me feel like I was doin' sumthin wrong though we were just relaxing. I can't stand a rule thats put in place for no reason. (Though I am a stickler for the rules that do have reason - like putting trash in the trash can.) Rumour has it there's a nude beach somewhere at Oka, though we saw no indication on any park map and we could neither confirm nor dispute its existence. Meh, it was a nice day out. It was too pricey to get smooshed onto a thin strip of sand and way too heavy on the rules. I would spend a nice summer day here again, but only on a weekday and only once, max twice, a year would suffice.

Lovely park! I haven't swam anywhere near Montréal in my 6 years here and I was happy that this was my first. It's only about an easy hour drive from downtown Montréal. There is plenty of place for parking and loads of picnic tables! They seemed relaxed about barbecue and everyone had their own little grill. The beach is clean and the water is not very deep; so a great place for families.

Beautiful Oka beach, 35 min. from sweaty sticky downtown Montreal...worth every penny!

It's still in its infancy and it's still trying new things out but it's a beach, it looks out over to Nun's Island, they are changing rooms, a shower to get the sand off of you, there's a lifeguard, the swimming section is cordoned off, the water is kind of cold and (and in my opinion not all that clean but I just came back from spending a month in Greece and was spoiled with crystal clear pristine blue flag beaches with some of the cleanest waters in the world so clearly my opinion is skewed). Another reason why I question the water quality; even though the beach forbids dogs, glass beer bottles and such, the city of Verdun does not along the rest of the riverfront and just walk a few meters along the riverfront away from the beach and you'll see dogs in the river, people fishing and idiot louts drinking beer in glass bottles and throwing them into the river. You're pretty much sharing the same water as the rest of the island and the St.Laurence has never been known to be clean particularly upstream in Lac St.Louis in the West Island which was known as Poohy Louie when I was growing up.... But I'm lucky, this place is a short walk from my place and I can easily spend my after work hours here. And then run over for Korean Fried Chicken afterwards!

My first time I went to the beach here I found a burnt spoon in the sand. Pretty grimey If you're going for a walk it's a nice spot to check out

Burton lsland State Park has to be the ultimate in the camping experience !…read more I have frequented many parks over my lifetime, and Burton Island is among the happiest in my camping experiences . There is not one draw-back that l can think of here. It has epic beauty. The trees and forests with lake views are magnificent. Everything is sanitary. Vermont people are exceedingly clean and conscientious about their surroundings. Camp sites are pristine. Restrooms are equipped and clean and accessible. If you are counting on an amazing camping trip, look forward to visiting Burton lsland !

Park at Kill Kare State Park and take the Island Runner to Burton Island, about a 10 minute ride. The ferry crew help to load your items onto the boat and you can pay $10 to have it delivered to your site.  Upon boarding the ferry, crew member Morgan welcomed us and gave us an overview of the Island and how everything worked. She recommended alternative swimming areas and prime sunset viewing spots. Morgan remembered us on our way back a few days later. She really made our visit that much more memorable, and the rest of the staff were super friendly as well. The island is equipped with showers & bathrooms (don't forget quarters!), trash & recycling recepticals, water spickets, kayak & canoe rentals, and weekly nature/survival lessons for kids. There are a few hiking trails and even some secret spots where you can post up and hang on the water for the day.   They offer traditional tent sites and lean-tos - some of which are right on the water. We plan to book one of these next time. Wood is available for purchase but be sure to ask for dry wood depending on recent weather conditions. The best spot about BI is the store, which is stocked with pretty much everything camping-related: beer & wine, drinks, snacks, ice, souveniers, etc. The store has a small kitchen with a grill and they make sandwiches and sides cooked to order. All of it is reasonably priced, and they accept credit/debit cards. Overall this experience was a very unique one but extremely rewarding. I highly recommend visiting Burton Island!!!
