The pond, the small waterfall, the cobble-stone paths, the library (now over 100 years old), the green spaces, the variety of huge, mature trees which give plenty of shade, you can easily pick up lunch on the go on Sherbrooke street and come over and spend an afternoon here spread out on a blanket, either chilling out with a great friend or a great book. The park is approximately 1,500,000 sq ft in area and it is named after René Lévesque, the prime minister of Quebec from 1976 to 1985. The park is ample and it has a bicycle path, an arboretum and we were able to see several species of birds. Walking along the water is soothing and very nice. If you are driving, the road access to the park is mainly through the Chemin du Canal, an extension of Saint Patrick Street.

Parc Summerlea is such a nice spot if you're looking to relax by the water. No really...I wasn't that excited, but I was up for it and we packed our balaclavas and lots of layers of clothing, so we might as well use it right? We're so glad we did it. The park itself looks quite large. We only did a portion of it as it was super cold. So we took the trail to the rapids which is pretty and you get to see the city from there. The trail is nicely marked and you can actually go all the way around the lake that's there. We just turned around after getting to the rapids. It's quite picturesque and some folks were doing cross country skiing around the park. Definitely a lovely spot to get a view and just get outside.

There were talks about renting out more ice skates for the rest of us but decided not to. So should I assume that the building that's next to the ice rink have rental skates? Maybe, not sure. But there were seats as well as orange seals that we used to help the little one get her balance and push around the rink. What's really great is the rink is free but make sure to check the daily schedule as there are specific times when it's free to the public and then there are either hockey practices or other things that are happening throughout the day. If there's enough snow or ice, there's also a man made rink that's on the other side of the rink that's there. But this time around it was too warm so no man made rink this time. Love this park !…read more Even tho I'm not a kid the park still has picini table to chill out at, picnic or ice cream. If you do have kids note that this park has the water park thats perfect for hot summer days. There's water fountain as well so don't worry you'll be fine out there. We walked here often as it was very close to where we were staying. There seems to be a farmers market that takes place here during the warmer months as well as a community garden that is tended by designated residents in the community. If you've ever been to Montreal, you know that this is a city where people are very active. Mostly you see people getting around on bicycles, but you also see a lot of people jogging, and walking. If you want to rent a bike, you can do so here. Very pleasant, clean, and beautiful.

Now with a young child we love to visit the playground and it's many different areas for different age groups. In particular we love that they have play structures that are great for toddlers, unlike many parks that cater mostly to the older school age crowd. In the summer there are water jets, which while not as exciting as some of the newer installations around town, do the job of keeping everyone cool and refreshed on hot summer days. With many picnic tables scattered throughout the park, it's a perfect picnic destination. My picks? Either Vieux Pool Room down on Rachel for steamies and fries or the Metro grocery store up on Mont-Royal for supplies if the urge to picnic hits you after you've already left home. Something to keep in mind is that Baldwin Park is actually two different areas: one stretches from Sherbrooke to Rachel, and includes what is often known as the Fullum Pool and the community garden; the other is hidden between Mont-Royal and Rachel, and has the soccer fields, playground, bathrooms and fountain.
