Nice open floor plan with lots of light. The decor was pretty random but white tablecloths were a nice touch. Service was fine but not fabulous. The little salad and wonton appetizer was a nice way to start the meal. Fresh veg and great sweet chili sauce. Cute rice tower in the shape of a star. Not over-steamed. The red curry with beef was very good--the beef could have been a little more tender but the sauce was a nice balance of sweet coconut and spicy pepper. I went with some coworkers over lunch and they told the server it was my birthday (which was true!) and at the end of our meal she brought out a complimentary surprise dessert. I'm not sure what it was exactly...some kind of coffee cake with mango sauce on it paired with some vanilla ice cream with toasted coconut on top. An unexpected treat! My friend and I ended up at Pla Too as part of girls night in Omaha. The promise of a free appetizer (using the PinPoint Rewards app) led us to Pla Too. When we pulled up it was empty. No other customers were here. Also, it's a bit divey on the outside and the little guy on the front door looks like he's, well, VERY happy to greet the customers. That's all I say. But, my friend and I both know that often times it's places like this that have the best food and we wanted an adventure. I've never been to a Thai restaurant before. I've had pad thai at Noodles and Company or in a frozen dinner, but never had authentic Thai. When we walked in I was still a little worried. Again, no one was there (to be fair it was about 5:30 on a Saturday so still pretty early). It was also pretty warm and very quiet. So quiet, in fact, because there was no music playing and my friend and I agreed if there were people there it would have been hard to have a conversation and not feel odd. We looked over the menu and made our selections. Not long after the music came on! And the adventure began! We had an excellent meal! The music was perfect (birds chirping, thai music, etc.), other guests starting showing up and our free round of Thai Chicken Lettuce Wrap. Quick tip, mix up the chicken mixture. The tiny wonton squares inside add a nice crunch. There were so many flavors and textures going on, we were really pleased. We also ordered some Tom Kha. My friend raved and raved about this being one of her favorite soups so I went ahead and got some. The beauty of PlaToo is that they very willingly will make anything vegetarian. So, my friend had Tofu Tom Kah and I had chicken. It was good. I think she expected it to be more coconuty and creamy (based on her past experience) but it was still good. It's a tomato based soup with chicken, coconut milk, galanga root, mushrooms, lemongrass, kaffir lime, tomatoes, zucchini, and white and green onion. It does have a bit of a sour flavor, but its well balanced with the tomato. Plus you have all those veggies to munch on. It's like a Thai version of tomato soup! I liked it. For my entree, I ordered the Chiangmai Dinner (grilled chicken (kind of tasted like fruity pebbles) served with honey-chili sauce, papaya salad, and sticky rice) and I HIGHLY recommend it. The presentation is absolutely beautiful but I had no clue how to eat it. Our server explained that you eat it with your hands. You scoop up some sticky rice, dip it into the sauce, add a piece of chicken and a bunch of the papaya salad and enjoy! She brought me a bowl of water to wash my hands and I had at it! I will warn that the rice is hot so proceed with caution but the mix of flavors was just lovely and the experience, so unique. Again, I was very pleased with my selection and would highly recommend it! My friend also couldn't stop raving about her entree, which came in a cute fish bowl and the rice formed into the shape of a star. Again, presentation was beautiful. She had the Pineapple Curry and subbed in tofu for the shrimp. The dish included Thai curry paste, coconut milk, carrots, pineapple, basil, and bell peppers. Served with steamed rice and salad. She was BEYOND excited to find pineapple curry and to be able to sub the tofu. She was on cloud nine and we shared each other's meals and I was also very pleased with her meal as well. The waitress explained the way to eat her meal was to put the curry onto the rice versus putting the rice in the curry. As if the meals weren't stellar enough, the service was fantastic. When you order you can select your level of spiciness and they prepare each dish according to your preferences. That's so unique. They were very willing to educate us, tell us about Thailand, make sure our water glasses were filled and it was just very pleasant. We will return! read more

A very nice surprise! My friend at work asked if I wanted to go get some Thai with him for lunch yesterday and I gave in and off we went. It doesn't look much on the outside, but its actually pretty nice on the inside with a nice faux-wood floor and nice tables and settings. We were greeted when we walked in and she showed us to our table. The waiter was extremely nice. We ordered our drinks and an app. We were wondering why it was taking a tad long, (probably 5-8 minutes), to get our app and drinks, but when we got it, we knew why. It was basically cooked to order and the crispy spring rolls were delicious. A little bit later we got our appetizers. I got the Thai Pasta with Chicken Curry at a 2-Medium heat level. It was awesome. The flavors were nice and balanced, the thai noodles were cooked right, and the chicken was great. I ate the whole thing. My friend got the Pad Thai and he said other than a tad too much fish sauce, it was really good. I got a Thai Iced Tea to go. My friend told me it was iced tea with sweet milk/condensed milk on top and you mix it. I'm not even a huge fan of iced tea and I loved it. Very yummy dinner. They have a spice level of 1-5 which I like so I can either have a really nice kick or just a little spice. I ordered the Summer Rolls, Tom Kha Soup level 2 spice with chicken, and the Spicy Noodles level 3 spice with chicken. The Summer Rolls were not the best I have had but they were pretty good. I would have liked a bit more shrimp in them but overall they were descent. The soup was some of the best I have had. Wonderful flavor and a nice amount of chicken and veggies. I would come back just for the soup any day. The spicy noodles were quite tasty as well. The spice level was very nice and the veggies still had some structure to them. I feel like veggies can get mushy sometimes in noodles but these were cooked very well. Our family usually goes to Pla Too on tuesdays after soccer practice. We love the place! Most of the time we get the same dishes: pineapple curry with tofu, red chicken curry, a fried rice for the little one, and crab Rangoon and Thai egg rolls for appetizers. All of the dishes we get are consistent and flavorful. If you have room for dessert, they make their own green tea ice cream, which the the kids usually get. Their mango cake, which they make as well, is also very good. The people at Pla Too Thai are so friendly and very good with the kiddos. You don't have to worry if you have kids if you're going here! read more

Pla Too Thai is an ok spot that will ever-so-slowly serve you up some decent Thai food at jawdropping prices. Also, if you need to store a bunch of crap ask them if they have room in the dining area to store it because I'm pretty sure that's what they do with all their junk. We ordered lettuce wraps and a classic chicken pad Thai. After we had aged considerably, the lettuce wraps came out and we were surprised by how good they were! The filling had a great balance of flavors with all those interesting textures that great Thai food is known for. Another eternity later we were served the Pad Thai. It came out looking pretty good all thicc and turnin' heads, but it lacked a lot of those strong flavor combinations that Thai dishes are known for. I thought it was okay. GF thought it was "less than okay." Your mileage may vary. Service was really slow. Pretty sure there was only one dude working the entire place. Also, I couldn't believe how expensive much of the menu was. I wasn't sure what to expect from this place but it exceeded whatever expectations I had. We opted to dine in and the physical aspects of the restaurant are a little odd. It's so quiet you can hear the kitchen fan and the boxes on the side of the restaurant are a bit unappealing but the food made up for it. We started with chicken lettuce wraps.. could have used more lettuce but overall super tasty. They then brought out a cabbage salad which packed a lot of flavor. I had the pineapple rice with chicken and shrimp, my fiancé had the shrimp pad Thai. We ordered both meals with a level 2 heat and they were pretty good, we'll probably try a heat level 3 next time. Ordered takeout and got the chicken pad Thai (spice level 3) and the spring rolls. I paid $21 for these TWO items. The portion of pad Thai was mediocre. For the price I paid, it would've been nice to have some leftovers. As for the food itself, the pad Thai was alright--didn't blow my socks off. It seemed very "wet". The noodles were pretty soggy and the sauce seemed to be watered down. That being said, the flavor was alright. The spring rolls had a good flavor, but were one-note when it came to texture/ingredients. They tasted garlicky--which was good. But didn't seem to have the traditional textures of spring rolls. Pla Too will has the potential to be my go-to place for Thai if they clean up some loose ends. Pla Too is located in Millard which makes it super convenient for me since I live over nearby. I ordered take out and I was glad I did once I walked in. Their air conditioning was broke so it was hotter inside than outside! I ordered pineapple fried rice and my wife ordered yellow curry. The fried rice was really good and had plenty of pineapple chunks. Sweet and savory goodness! The yellow curry was good to however the rice was a bit starchy and grainy. They most likely didn't rinse the rice well enough. That's a sin in my book. Thai restaurants need to have perfect Jasmine rice. The bill was $30 which seemed a bit on the pricey side for Thai. Overall I was pleased with my dish however they need to up their game in the rice, interior atmosphere, and prices. read more

Tas is hit or miss for me. Some things have been great, and others not so great. For the price, I feel they could do better. A $15 dinner tastes like 8-10, and for the simplicity of ingredients in the dishes, they are making off like bandits. The Pad Thai i had today had 4 main ingredients, so 10 was OK but still a little pricey. The Chicken Curry Pasta had mushy overcooked noodles and was not very currish. $14 too much if you ask me. Perhaps this is my fault for usually using them as a take out service only. BUT in general, I only eat there once in a while mainly due to price, and the inconsistency in the food. Came here Sunday because I was craving Thai food. Read the previous review that their a/c was broken but it was the only place that was opened on Sunday that had better reviews so we came anyways. Location wasn't hard to find & the decor wasn't bad but it wasn't great. So so. It was definitely not cool in their but I can handle a little heat. They had fans all around which didn't help much but better than nothing. I'm not sure if it's an Omaha thing or what but again we saw kids toys everywhere & some on tables too. We ordered the soft shell crab for appetizer & it was delicious but way overpriced for such a small amount. I think it was $7.50ish. I was craving something spicy so that's why we went to eat Thai so I ordered their Lao Style papaya salad with hot spice since the hubby can't handle spicy. I would usually request very spicy. It was very satisfying still. I ordered their version of Pad see eww beef which they called it Broccoli Noodle with Beef. Got it very hot & it was pretty much just hot. My husband ordered their Spicy Thai Curry Fish. He was very satisfied with it but to me nothing special since it just tasted like curry. It was good though! Best dish out of the rest. I was hesitant on ordering their Mango ice drink but then heard the customer at the table beside us rave about the ice coffee so I thought, I have to try it too. First the waitress brought it out & I mixed it but it looked orange so my first thought was, this can't be the coffee & is probably the Thai ice tea. I tasted it & guess what? It was the tea. Got her attention & said I wanted the coffee which she was more than happy to bring me the right drink. I tasted it & being Thai/Lao this was just like all Thai restaurant drink. Ahhh.. My aunt makes hers with condensed milk & I was hoping that's what it was going to taste like but it wasn't. I was s but disappointed but still drank & paid for it. Overall, the food was decent & the service was great. Price could be a little less than what they charge but it's their restaurant so they charge what they want. Major plus? Open on Sunday! Ordered Take Out with another family. It was quicker to pick up than I'd experienced elsewhere...by half! Pick up was easy and the food was darn good; chicken and beef pad Thai, homemade fried rice, pineapple fried rice and chicken yellow curry. Only five levels of hot so don't expect nuanced levels like some other places profess to achieve. Not sure I'd eat in...building looks like it needs some refurbishing. Everything we have tried has been great, from the Pad Thai to the Drunken Noodles to the Tom Yum soup. I am determined to try everything on this menu. The whole family is an agreement, even my picky kids. The atmosphere is not fancy or anything but I could care less with food this good. Ask before you go up on the spicy scale, I personally don't think I would wander past medium but that's just me. If you like your ass on fire I'm sure they can accommodate you. Favorite Thai in the Omaha area, hands down! We drive from downtown to have Pla Too about once a month, we don't drive out West for any other reason, not even the malls! The ambiance and family feel is very comfortable. Service is sweet and helpful. Surprisingly, very good fish dishes. Then I read some of the articles they have posted in the hallway about the history of Pla Too and it being the Thai word for fish. read more

4+ stars. I was pleasantly surprised by Pla Too Thai. I typically try to eat at restaurants that have 4.5-5 [Yelp] stars, but I thought I would give this place a try. We arrived at 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon; there were three other tables occupied at the time, and only one person working (she was profusely apologetic about the long wait for service/food). The wife ordered beef fried rice (heat level 1/5) and I had the pineapple fried rice (heat level 3/5). Both were very good. I'll have to visit again, and try the yellow curry or something else, before I cement my thoughts about Pla Too Thai and how it stacks up against other Thai restaurants I have reviewed in Omaha. Suffice it to say, however, that I will definitely be back. Update: 2nd visit. The Chiang Mai dinner was just "ok"; I probably won't get it again. The Tom Kha (soup) was good, though. I'm more of a Khao Soi guy, but the Tom Kha had a good flavor. So, yeah, we will go back a 3rd time. read more

Aside from the building and the restrooms needing some updating (and at the time of our visit, the grass outside was very tall), the place is very clean, otherwise. The service is very good as well. We came here on one of the coldest nights in Omaha this year, looking for something hot and spicy to warm us up! The place from outside doesn't look pretty, but inside the decoration is very nice. We ordered some summer rolls to start that were very fresh and came with a nice tamarind sauce. John and I not ordered curries ( green and yellow) both came with a salad and rice. Mine was medium and John asked for his hot and we both thought we could have gone a level up. We also had tea that was good as well. Tas's serves tasty Thai food and the BEST lettuce wraps in town, bar none. The last time we ate there, my wife and I both got separate orders of lettuce wraps because they are simply too good to share. The mango smoothies are also fantastic. Tas's uses a "star" system to rate the spiciness of their dishes. Orders can be made from 0-5 stars; 0 stars is the mildest, 5 stars is the hottest. NOTE: If you're like me and detest overly spicy things, do NOT go over two stars. If you do find yourself in over your head, so to speak, the aforementioned smoothies are great for soothing the flames of Thai goodness raging in your mouth. You're welcome. I would guess that the building itself is an old Pizza Hut, it seems like it SHOULD be run-down but is actually maintained fairly well. There's a massive lack of ambience of any sort, but that's pretty apparent walking in so you shouldn't be too surprised. read more

Decent Thai food. I enjoyed it- we got the chicken lettuce wraps, pad thai, and a shrimp dish. We also got the fruit drinks (mango and orange, respectively). The portion size was a tad small for the price but the taste was very good. The chicken lettuce wraps were good, although I would have liked more variety inside the wraps. The only thing offered was chicken (other places will offer other garnishes such as noodles, vegetables, and different sauces). The lettuce wraps here were accompanied by standard sweet chili sauce, which I enjoyed. The pad Thai was nice. I wish there had been a tad more chicken and also a bit more of the other stuff (bean sprouts, egg were not really noticeable). Still, the noodles and seasoning were great. I also liked the shrimp dish but the portion sizing was a tad small. Also of note, the orange and mango drinks were VERY good. I highly recommend checking those out. All in all, I enjoyed my trip to Tas's Thai Pepper and the only downside was that the portion sizings were a bit small. read more

Thai flavors are all about balance. I love a green papaya salad when I need a veggie fix. The one I had here was a perfect level 3 out of five spice as requested. The only drawback was the use of iceberg lettuce as the base... I'd rather pay 50 cents more and have romaine hearts. I also had fried tofu as an appetizer. they dust them with salt and and black pepper and a tiny bit of starch I think before frying them. Fantastic with the chili peanut dipping sauce. They do no give you too much of anything here... everything is just right. Portions. Heat, Dressing amounts. Sauce amounts. There is that balance thing again. We had the lettuce wraps for an appetizer, which were fresh and oh so yummy. For dinner I had the tofu Pad Thai, which was so, so, so good. Perfect heat, perfectly cooked tofu. I ordered the yellow curry (3 star spiciness: awesomely spicy!), a favorite stand by and was satisfied. I also tried the lemongrass chicken which was probably the best dish at our table. My favorite part about the meal was the portion size. It was so perfect! It seemed a little small in comparison to other places but I left feeling satisfied and happy. Stopped in for lunch around 12:45 on a Thursday. About half the tables were seated. I got the Yellow Chicken Curry lunch special. It was a whopping $9.50 before tax (normal price is $11) and it took about 15 minutes to prepare. If I ordered take-out from here again, I'd call ahead. Overall, I was very disappointed with the food I got for the money and the time spent waiting. There wasn't a whole lot of chicken, potatoes, or bell peppers - and what's worse, all the watery sauce had leaked out into the bag. Though the chicken was tender and good-quality as other reviewers have noted, it was bland, flavorless boneless skinless chicken breast. This combined with the watery sauce that was not spicy at all (which was not what I requested) made for an uninteresting dish. Worse, the pitiful amount of salad they gave me had steamed in the box for 10 minutes before I got to eat it, and it was also covered in yellow curry; would a separate container have killed them? While I was waiting, I took note of the dining room. There were just two servers walking back and forth (but NOT hustling). I saw a few people get up to fill their own water, several tables looking anxiously for their check, and one woman literally chase after her server to get her son's food. Not good signs. There is much better Thai food in both Omaha and Lincoln, and I wouldn't waste my time or money at this place again. read more

Sorry to say it, but Pla Too is just okay. For better Thai food in the area, go to Thai Orchids instead. I got the Ba Mee Kung with shrimp, but it was slightly overdone. The food, especially the shrimp, was a little on the bland side and could have done with a little more flavoring. The spice level was perfect though.
