I quietly took some over to one of the workers behind the counter to advice you have mold chunks in the ice machine... I got the eye roll and brought my empty cup's I ordered and requested bottle drinks even had to pay the difference for changed order ... I've been eating at PJ's Deli since they opened in the 80s. Even though I haven't lived in Iowa since 2008, I still always hit up PJ's whenever I'm in the area. Just a quaint, old-fashioned deli but have great sandwiches and soups. I always get the Paisano on a Hoagie and get it warmed up. Pro tip: drop the vinaigrette and add Italian dressing instead. So good! And the chips and pickle spear with it... just rounds out the lunch. Prices are more than reasonable. A Newton staple that I hope will stay open for generations to come. read more

I love this place! I grew up on the Super Cheese and the (Minnesota) Feast. Maybe that's why I live in Minnesota currently. Whenever I'm back in town this is one of my must stops! They have a great variety of sandwiches and I'm pretty sure almost all of them come with wide wavy potato chips and a pickle spear. Instant lunch! I really enjoy their various mayo "salads" think noodle or potato variety. Even though they have so much to choose from I always seem to get my old favorites. Don't bother with chain options like Subway or Jimmy John's, you will find better quality here and you are helping out a local business owner who supports the community (especially if you are a cyclist). TIP: If you are in a hurry, call and order ahead. They are not known for their expedited service. Having a hard time understanding all the awards on the wall.. a veggie hoagie consisted of two slices of tomatoes, two flat pieces of ice burg lettuce, two slices green pepper a few slices onion and a small amount of black olives and a ton of mayo. The meat sandwich had a lot of meat and very few veggies. The mayo was so sweet I couldn't even finish this sad sandwich. I got the potato salad which was awful! I had one bite and my husband had a bite and it was so bad we couldn't eat anymore. Amazing! Delicious across the board with their sandwiches and soups! Tons of great sandwich options (trust them - sometimes the ingredient combos are surprising, but the folks at pj's know what they're doing), and the dill dip is addictive!
