We were hungry after a long travel day, we used Yelp's "open now" feature to assist us, but some restaurants were in fact open but we discovered their kitchens were closed. This was the first restaurant where the kitchen was open as we walked from our hotel. The menu was difficult to read when you don't speak the language but Google translate did help. As expected, the place was not very busy since it was mid-afternoon. We were seated promptly and ordered Kolsch beer, locally brewed in Cologne and water. The place appeared to be clean and the food came in a timely fashion. All of our meals were good, not great. We also never did get the water we ordered. We had to ask for the check and were told they do not take credit cards. We were not prepared for that. Luckily, we had enough cash and they were willing to exhange American dollars to Euro so we could pay. Overall it was a good experience, but just average.

The fresh meat and fish is on display as one enters the place (which is usually very busy). The menu is very extensive - with a speciality in fish, but also other things. Everything is carefully sourced, prepared, blended - venison, scottish salmon, truffles, and wonderful mushrooms are staples of the menu, having been 3 or 4 times now. The wine list is varied and the staff unstintingly friendly. Not a cheap, generic place, but the expense has never felt unjustified given the care, finesse and heterogeneity that define this place.

I call it a studio as watching it makes one think of artistry. You get welcomed with a schnapps and then a basket of their delicious little bread chunks and a great herb butter. I asked for the Diavolo pizza extra spicy and they delivered an amazing tasting experience. Full of flavour with a masterful crust. We decided to order take-out for the whole family after getting a recommendation from a local. Genio will be our new favorite pizzeria. The pizza, pasta and sides we ordered were made right in front of us in a very clean kitchen. The ingredients were fresh and delicious. Any take out of $25 or more includes a free drink. The team was very friendly and Franco now has a few more raving fans, including some very picky eaters (our kids).
