Came here for lunch and it is definitely a family friendly and orientated place for a meal. The…read morewaitress that served us was both welcoming and informative. I got a bambino pizza and a salad. They use real wood Fire oven to cook the pizzas in and it was really beautifully cooked. The salad was delicious but just lacked that little extra (maybe basil?). My dining companion had linguine which was just a bit undercooked. All in all a great lunch spot, reasonably priced and very welcoming staff! Just needs that extra umph on the food front to take it to a 5 star. But they're fairly new so there's time....

We walked past this colourful, vibrant looking restaurant on our first brief afternoon in Looe and…read moreearmarked it for a potential visit during our week in the area. Glad to say we got involved early doors on the second night. As you'd expect on a mid-September Wednesday early evening in a tourist hotspot in Cornwall, it wasn't exactly heaving. Nowhere is at 5.30. Too early for the ravers, too late for the biddies, perfect for the young-parent crowd, which we are firmly in the camp of. Speaking of, there was another young family there (who incidentally we'd seen wandering the cobbled streets of Polperro earlier in the day) and a middle aged, childless couple in situ. Regardless, the service was exceptional. The very clearly authentically Italian server was attentive and helpful throughout and happy to chat and give recommendations. In addition to this, he went above and beyond for aforementioned Baby G - he was grizzling, as is his way at the moment, which was obvious for all in the restaurant to see. I was walking him around when he offered some free breadsticks to keep him occupied. It worked! He also engaged with Asa in a card swapping game - coincidentally (?) handing over a 'rate us on Tripadvisor' card in exchange for one Asa had just picked up. Cynical, moi?! Couple more little, but noticeable, things - he washed up ALL of the dude's paraphernalia, plate, bib and spoon. Really appreciated that. And also the food came at the perfect temperature - not too hot as it always is in every other restaurant we go to, thereby incurring a tentative wait while it cools. They clearly know how to deal with kids, and are truly a 'family friendly' place. Onto the food - Em had a Bianco pizza (garlic butter, pulled pork, mushrooms and rosemary) which was genuinely delicious. Creamy and packed with flavour, with a crispy thin base, and cooked to perfection. To the point where I wish I'd had the same. Honestly one of the best pizzas I've tried for a long time. My beef ragu was very nice, beef shin and pork ragu making the difference between it and a spag bol. Big chunks of meat, spaghetti with the right amount of bite and bounce, and seasoned to perfection. Asa's penne pomodoro was very well received - he essentially inhaled it. Which is about as good as you can expect from a bebe. Dessert was 2x affogato's, which I haven't had for a while. The gelato was gorge - creamy af, and the espresso was lovely but would have preferred it hot. Drinks-wise, Em had her standard prosecco, I had a next level G&T- Malfy Rosa with pink grapefruit. Apparently it's a Sicilian pink grapefruit gin with a hint of rhubarb. I've already got a bottle on order. The overall experience at Mama J's was of sheer joy and blissful happiness. Get here. Now.

The Boat that Rocks is located literally on a marina by the docks. If you did not search for a…read morerestaurant/pub with food, you wouldn't find this place. It is an odd location where there's boats all around and even a massive parking garage just for boats. Pretty unique place. The ambience seems a bit posh, but the staff is attentive and friendly. There's a lot of seating so you can pick your choice if need be. You sit down and you order your food on a simplified menu. There's not too many choices but enough and there's even some vegetarian options as well. The kitchen closes at around 9pm. We know this because after climbing on the island all day, we were looking for a place to go and as we came in and wanted to order food, it was a bit rushed since the kitchen was about to close soon. Nachos- they are sad and underwhelming. The tortilla chips are interestingly flavoured and seasoned with paprika maybe? The cheese is salty and loaded on heavily. The amount of sour cream and salsa given on the side is absolutely sad. It's a tiny thumbnail paper cup. Barely enough for a couple tortilla chips. Fish and chips- fish is okay, nothing that special. The chips are massive and chunky. The mushy peas are your average mushed peas. The tartare sauce is just as sad as the sour cream and salsa for the nachos. Halloumi and red pepper burger- by far the best part of everything we got. The halloumi is fried to perfection. The vegetables are a nice balance. The pretzel bun was too much breading though. It came with a little side salad and coleslaw. As well as the chunky massive chips. It doesn't seem much but it's pretty filling by the end of it. The amount of mayo given was the same as the other dipping sauces. We had to ask before they gave us more. Why not just give the whole condiment bottle? Overall if you are looking for a cold drink with a meal, this place is decent enough. Just don't get your hopes up. The ambience and the plating is much fancier than the food is.

Good, straightforward food, which families of all ages will appreciate.
