On a trip away with work in Dorchester I stumbled across this little hole-in-the-wall. You go in…read moreand it looks tiny, largely, because it is tiny. I was taken downstairs - where the main seating area and instantly liked the atmosphere. It is a well decorated and lit cavern - as the name suggest. But unlike the name suggests it is very small. Not small cramped, but small cosy. One thing I especially liked about this was that they stock delicious local ale - I had a lovely ale called 'piddle' to which the waitress joked 'piddle in a bottle'. This amused her more than it did me in fairness. The food was delicious, I had a crab and salmon pasta that was really delicious. They also brought free bread with oils, olives and (oddly) radish. I like free stuff so this got them points with me. If I could complain about one thing it's that the service was not quite perfect. They clearly had a new girl starting and it was strange to hear her being told off for cutting me too much bread - "he's just by himself you'll ruin his appetite with that much bread" I heard across the small restaurant. This was more funny than it was rude, but perhaps I was slightly annoyed at the motherly implication that I can't manage my own appetite ,which I have been doing successfully for almost 2 decades now! Best part of all this, my beer and delicious main course cost only £15. I'd recommend this place highly. I went on a Thursday night and loved the atmosphere, so I imagine on a Friday or Saturday night it would be excellent.

You will need to book on weekends and you should know that this place is all downstairs in a cavern, so you need to be OK with enclosed areas. It's snug and private, great for couples, or book out the whole cavern and have a big party! The owners will no doubt party with you till the wee hours!

The sauce on the pizza had a great taste that put it over the top, amazing. I paired it well with my Aperol Spritz and took in the views while eating. Our waitress was great and recommended some must see locations while we were in town. She was great. It is an odd location where there's boats all around and even a massive parking garage just for boats. Pretty unique place. The ambience seems a bit posh, but the staff is attentive and friendly. There's a lot of seating so you can pick your choice if need be. You sit down and you order your food on a simplified menu. There's not too many choices but enough and there's even some vegetarian options as well. The kitchen closes at around 9pm. We know this because after climbing on the island all day, we were looking for a place to go and as we came in and wanted to order food, it was a bit rushed since the kitchen was about to close soon. Nachos- they are sad and underwhelming. The tortilla chips are interestingly flavoured and seasoned with paprika maybe? The cheese is salty and loaded on heavily. The amount of sour cream and salsa given on the side is absolutely sad. It's a tiny thumbnail paper cup. Barely enough for a couple tortilla chips. Fish and chips- fish is okay, nothing that special. The chips are massive and chunky. The mushy peas are your average mushed peas. The tartare sauce is just as sad as the sour cream and salsa for the nachos. Halloumi and red pepper burger- by far the best part of everything we got. The halloumi is fried to perfection. The vegetables are a nice balance. The pretzel bun was too much breading though. It came with a little side salad and coleslaw. As well as the chunky massive chips. It doesn't seem much but it's pretty filling by the end of it. The amount of mayo given was the same as the other dipping sauces. We had to ask before they gave us more. Why not just give the whole condiment bottle? Overall if you are looking for a cold drink with a meal, this place is decent enough. Just don't get your hopes up. The ambience and the plating is much fancier than the food is.

The place is favoured by older folk and the setting always reminds me of being in someone's lounge rather than a restaurant. The building is essentially just another old cottage in the village which has been converted into a restaurant, which brings it's own charm with low ceilings and exposed wood. It also comes across as fairly unpretentious. We chose from the set menu which was £25 or so for three courses. Nicely balanced menu, which is always good when you have a choice of 4 for each course - it makes decisions easy as well. The restaurant was fairly full by the time our food came, and the service was always pretty slick but relaxed enough for a Sunday lunch. Everyone enjoyed their meal, washed down with a few bottles of the house wine - a very respectable Sauvignon Blanc. In summary, a decent place. Probably slightly above the average in terms of cost for the area (especially for a village), but it's definitely worth it.
