We had a delightful Saturday night dinner at Pizzedelic Monkland on November 9th, and it's easy to…read moresee why this spot has been a neighborhood favorite since 1995. Four key reasons for its longevity: varied enough menu to satisfy everyone diner, great food, reasonable prices, and excellent service.
We opted to share a few dishes: the Salade César, the Crazy Veggie flatbread, and the Frite Petite.
The atmosphere was relaxed with good acoustics. The ambient music was not overbearing and we could easily converse without having to shout over it or other diners.
The Salade César (Caesar Salad) served in the "grande" size was more than enough for two, even without the traditional anchovies, bacon, and capers (no judgment, please!). The salad was well-dressed with a homemade dressing, crunchy croutons, and, upon request, no hesitation in bringing extra Parmesan--just the way we liked it. And good quality Parmesan that some other restaurants are cutting back on.
The Crazy Veggie (Fou des legumes) flatbread pizza was a highlight: a crispy base topped with a zesty tomato sauce that had a perfect balance of spice and fresh basil. Generous portions of portobello mushrooms, zucchini, onions, fresh tomatoes, and mozzarella made each bite satisfying and flavourful.
For a bit of indulgence, we added the home fries to our order. Our server advised against ordering the family sized Frite Maison (Familiale), suggesting it was better suited for a much larger group than just us two, so we opted for the smaller portion of Frite Petite. It was just the right amount--crispy, golden fries with a perfect touch of salt. If we didn't go with the fries, we may have ordered a desert, perhaps next time.
The service was warm, attentive, and very non intrusive as we were able to linger right to closing. We ended up being the last diners of the night and had the chance to chat with the chef, who has been working there for 17 years. He shared his passion for sourcing fresh vegetables, which he carefully selects to ensure the highest quality in every dish. It was clear that his commitment to freshness and attention to detail were key ingredients in what made our meal so enjoyable.
The pricing is very reasonable given the portion sizes and the quality of the food. Overall, Pizzedelic Monkland offers a great casual dining experience that consistently delivers on taste and value. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a delicious meal in a relaxed setting.
