Oh Bison Beer! Why have I only just found you!? *sadface*…read more Apparently they have been open for just over a year now and I've walked down East Street soooo many times over that period but completely missed this place. This is my perfect idea of Saturday afternoon shopping! (Sorry Churchill Square). Not only do they stock ALL of my favourite beers/breweries from Beavertown to Cloudwater, Flying Dog to Wild Beer and lots more....they also brew their own which tastes pretty good too! We stocked up and purchased 10 bottles and was given a loyalty card. Every £15 you spend you get a stamp and you get something for free after every 3 stamps which is pretty good going. They also sell Growler's where you can fill it up with their own beer or they have a couple of others on draft too (Cloudwater last time I visited but they change it regularly apparently). The only thing that was a little bit off was the service, the lady was nice enough but she seemed to spend more time helping a guy who walked in asking 'Do you sell any proper beers? As in like Fosters or Carling or something?' Perhaps she realised that he needed a lot more help :) But it would have been nice to chat to her and get her opinion as an expert on perhaps beers that they stock that we've never tried before and/or learn a bit more about their own beer. But she did give me a taste of the latest Cloudwater on draft....and anyone that feeds me Cloudwater is all good in my books. A solid 5 stars for me for the selection of beers and their own brew only, hopefully the service will be 5 star worthy too next time we visit as I can see this place being somewhere that we will be visiting a lot! *happyface*

They've got so many you could have a different one each day of the year. At the end of the shop closest to the front door they had a very welcoming bench, made, we were told with reclaimed timber from Brighton Pier. On the black board at the back were bright yellow messages and illustrations in their signature style. We glugged back the Bison's Beast Street ipa and to me it had an elderflower taste (that's a new one on them). Great little shop with a huge selection of craft beers and a massive crowdfunding campaign. They hope to raise funds to turn an abandoned listed building into an independent pub.

Tired of having walked up and down the hill (and up and down again, and again) during the day, I was happy to unwind at this "micro"pub in the early evening. The emphasis is very firmly on modern style keg beers, and there's plenty to choose from. About half the beers are in steady rotation, the other half are "keepers". There's a printed list available, with the ABV and style of each item included. Some of the beers are very expensive, think of UK 7 for a high ABV half-pint, or even a third. A little too expensive methinks, but this Brighton is a tourist spot and prices along the Channel coast tend to be on the higher side of the spectrum anyway. It's a friendly place, with highly knowledgeable and welcoming staff, so I lingered for more than two hours and had a bite, too, one of their burgers (which was good and not too expensive). Beer wise, expect to spend at least UK6 and up on the regular ABV pints. I was in a bit of an agitated mood when I came there, due to problems with my vaping equipment, but the atmosphere made me calm down in due course. Good place altogether, and conveniently close to the station.

This is for sure going to be my new favourite beer spot…read more Great beer. Cool decor. Dog friendly.... I literally couldn't ask for more. Although, their bacon dusted chips don't exactly harm their rating either... I've been meaning to try this place for such a long time and I am so glad I got the chance to!! I met a fellow Yelper here (to recommend all the best choices) as well as some of her friends and I was just delighted at every step, really. Firstly, the design of this place is magic. Somehow they're cool but casual - edgy but familiar at the same time. Everything looks great and it's slick and modern, but there's a comfortable charm about the place as well which reeks of an old, local pub. It's a wonderful combination and it works effortlessly. Secondly, the beer. They have every kind of beer, at every percentage and (most helpfully) they have friendly and knowledgable staff to help you find your perfect match. They don't even correct you when you order a 'Number 1' instead of an 'N1', which shows their kindness! :P Being an utter craft beer newbie, this was a great experience and there is definitely going to be a beer here for you, regardless of your taste. Thirdly, the food!! I had bacon dusted chips. Yes, you heard me! Bacon dust. As in, 100% bacon. Made into dust. It was an odd concoction but a tasty one nonetheless and if you're in the mood for chips but don't fancy being boring this is a great option! The chips themselves were fab - crispy and perfect! Lastly, they allow dogs in here, which (for a dog lover/owner) is the cherry on top, really!! Overall, this place is a true gem. It feels like it's well run and has been well thought out. It's certainly going to be well loved by me and Bramble, that's for sue, as I guarantee I will be back to try more of their wonderful beers!!

It also makes a few craft beer pub lists too as it has a very long list of world and craft beers, mainly in bottles, to chose from. It may surprise a few but it also serves amazing cocktails. A craft beer place AND a good cocktail place under one roof!? Surely not! But yes, it definitely works, they do a mean Amaretto sour and Espresso Martini and some of the more unusual cocktails too. It's not table service though which I actually really like as it remains down to earth and has a local hangout vibe. It gets really busy at the weekends on Friday and Saturday nights and there's often a band on or a cool DJ playing Northern Soul over the weekend too. In the daytime it's really chilled out and the bar staff are always happy to chat to you and talk you through the latest beer/cocktail menu (or about anything really!). There's also seating outside but with the view of the top of St. James Street it definitely is a better view inside with its quirky decor. I lucked out with this place being my closest pub!

They also have a mystery light and dark beer selection that changes regularly, which they reveal once the cask or keg is finished. There's almost always a selection of Kernel, Partizan and Beavertown beers, in addition to some fine Belgian brews, like Delirium Tremens. The only reason I haven't added a 5th star is that a few more kegs would not go amiss here. Oh, and most importantly, they have deep fried gherkins that are FLIPPING DELICIOUS. Their chips are great too, but deep fried gherkins. Fried pickles. yes yes yesssss. The bar staff and proprietor (proprietrix, really) are friendly and fun (I suggest going during Oktoberfest for lederhosen looks and some great German keg brews) and it's a welcome addition to the growing craft beer community here in Brighton.

The place might get a bit crowded since its not the biggest one in the world, but it was a cozy little place and I would love to go here if ever in Brighton again. Did not have the time to stay for long, but I liked what I saw. They also to quiz and have a selection of board games if you are into that. Oh yes, they also do burgers and some sides, from the menu it felt tasty, but we didnt try any of their food, so I cannot tell. All in all, glad we walked in on this place. You do not have to be a beer geek to go here or add all your beers to untappd, but its a place where you can try a lot of different beers for sure.

The interior comprises an 'L'-shaped bar, and is traditional, with lots of wood, dark green painted walls and cigar-brown ceilings. As well as lots of naval pictures there are lots of posters for live bands all over Brighton. They serve up to 4 real ales, well kept and well served. One ale we ordered was from a new barrel, and still a little bit cloudy and very 'bright'. The very helpful barmaid offered to pull another pint if it wasn't up to scratch. This is so much better than your average run of the mill experience it gets 5 stars for that alone. They serve food at lunchtimes and evenings, and Saturday and Sunday lunchtime and early afternoon. I've not eaten there yet, but I will at some point. The clientele seem to come from a very wide mix of Brighton types, from students to middle-aged, straight, gay, etc.

The pub is tucked up above the station although it has a giant maritime sign so it is easy to find! I've been here a couple of times because I have a few friends who love it. I have to admit that I'm not sure why they love it so enthusiastically but I can see that it is a lovely pub and that it grows on you. The inside is actually pretty small and I think that enhances the feel that the more you go, the more you become part of a sort of club- the Battle fanclub! The beers and ales are excellent, as are the bar snacks. The whole place has the atmosphere of a serious pub for regulars and it seems to appeal to a professional (and largely male crowd) that like the straighforwardness of it- a familiar port in a storm.
