The best sandwich shop in Bradford bar none!!…read more The old adage of you pay for what you get is critical here, as prices are dearer than if you plumped for a pre-packed sandwich elsewhere. You're talking approximately £2.50 per sandwich on average but you won't be disappointed- the indgredients used and the range of choices are excellent and I can almost guarantee you won't be hungry afterwards either! The hot sandwiches are great for a change and the cakes are all homemade and gorgeous. Staff are all really nice and have a genuine passion for their jobs.

8 Bank Street, Bradford…read more BD1 1EE 01274 370909 This is at the bottom of town but a bit hidden as its down where most of the shops have shut, but, it is kept busy because it is opposite the telegraph and argus building. If you want a sandwich avoid the peak lunchtime rush as you could wait nearly a hour as most food is made onsight as ordered. They have a good selection of lovely sandwiches already made up for you to grab and run - these are all made on better bread than your average grab and run sandwich and are very nice and fresh. They have more than your average fillings too - they are more adventurous here. You can also choose to have a sandwich made up as you wait - you choose the type of bread from a large selection which arent your average breads. Then you can choose what to put in it - be it cheese and apple to raisin and jam - if they have it they will make it. You can even watch them make it for you. They also do salads and jacket potatoes and quich slices and there is a lot of choice for desserts which look mouthwatering. They also have a good selection of crisps and pops which arent your everyday normal selection - they offer some posh ones too. The staff are lovely and the place is very clean. The prices are a bit dearer than average but well worth it.

I guess in a pinch, if there really is no other option than take away, Subway might be that choice…read moreof the many bad choices when it comes to fast food. But then again, you could be of the opinion that if you have to do it, you may as well go the whole hog and buy something just plain bad for you, and not something that pretends to be reasonable. This is my main issue with Subway. It pretends to be a healthy alternative. But once you've topped up with cheese, mayonnaise and the rest, and then evaluated the fat, salt etc the main ingredients actually have too, you start to wonder if it was really any good for you after all! And does it really taste good? Really? I can't say I've ever walked away thinking, "My what a delicious and well thought out sandwich!" Beyond this, I have never gone into this Subway and had actual fresh bread - it's always been crusty and tasted stale. The staff generally don't care about serving you well - I suppose I wouldn't either in that scenario. This Subway in particular, whilst having an outdoor seating option, always seems to litter the outdoors area with balloons, which invariably wilt and droop and become messy eye sores lying around the pavement, which is also a source of annoyance to me too. Essentially, whilst I have used Subway in times of need before, I generally begrudge it a lot and end up wishing I'd hung on until I gotten home.

The sandwiches here are massive and all made freshly while you wait. The prices are a little below average for Halifax centre, so good value. Hot Stuff is a bit of a mixed bag, and in my opinion, a bit of a pot luck kind of takeaway place…read more The pot luck element is of course with regard to their kebabs and other such items, I mean, if all you want is a portion of chips I really doubt you'll get a bad batch. As with many people, I'm sure, my sole usage of this establishment has been post-Cockpit. In this way it's always been a bit of a "I'm drunk and therefore want evil food" kind of relationship between Hot Stuff and I, and in that at least, I can say that they have been faithful, cheery and dutiful. I certainly couldn't advise eating there sober - but then I can't think of a kebab shop anywhere that I would choose to dine from, for say my working lunch. Sometimes the kebab has been magic, sometimes the kebab has been the opposite. This variable could of course be down to my alcohol consumption, I might add. Whilst it's not the nicest place to be after 2am, given all the drunken bloke-ness around here, the staff have always been pretty friendly. I don't know if I could be, working here and serving quite so many intoxicated muttonheads - so props to them! All in all, Hot Stuff serve a range of much demanded take away foods for the masses - most especially after a big night out on the town.

I had a coffee here the other day, and was left wondering whether the 'caffé' in this pizzeria's…read morename was actually a misspelling of the word 'café' rather than a reference to it serving genuine Italian coffee. In short, it was a perfectly acceptable caffeine hit but nothing spectacular. The food fared a little better, and the pizza I had was tasty, generous and well priced, although my friend's burger warranted less glowing praise. Mezmez feels like it's trying hard to be a proper Italian establishment, but it commits the common crime of feeling like it has to offer other dishes too, and it's the inferior quality of these that lets the whole side down. That, and the coffee. A better choice than many of the cafes and takeaways in the area, but it will have to do better to compete with the mighty Box up the road.
