It was a beautiful, warm day so we decided to dine outdoors on their patio. Early on in the meal, it began to get brighter with the sun beating down on us, so our waitress was kind enough to set up a large umbrella to shield us from the intense sunshine. By the way, we had the best waitress ever here- I believe her name was Carrie. OMG- she was so funny and quickwitted. She did an amazing job waiting on our large party of 7. The menu had many options and pretty much had something for everyone. There were salads, burgers and so many other options. I chose the Mexi Bowl. Okay, this was next-level good! Every component of the bowl was spot on. Everything harmonized so well together. It was Mexican rice, black beans, diced tomatoes, grilled peppers and onions. I opted for the pulled pork and it was finished off with chipotle mayo and sour cream. It was sooo delicious! These were the best grilled onions and peppers. They were delicately diced and the peppers and purple onions were perfectly caramelized. You could not have asked for a more perfect Mexi Bowl. Being from Texas, I was impressed with the fresh ingredients and how it totally gave me Mexican-vibes. Great job! Throughout lunch service all the outdoor table filled up on a Monday, so that totally tell you how busy this place can get- but not surprising. The food here was great and to forgot to mention how delicious my citrus beverage was (I think it was lemonade, pineapple and soda water). Overall, Redneck Bistro was a true delight. Every aspect of my visit exceeded my expectations. Definitely make your way here if you're in the Greater Madawaska area for an excellent meal and experience!

We ordered Bangers and Mash which was delivered to our table quickly and was mouth watering good. We shared some salt and pepper wings that were breaded, big and meaty and quite tasty. Seems like a really well run restaurant with a Muskoka clientele vibe, with lots of friendly staff on a Monday night. We want to give a special call out to Molly the Hostess who looks like she really cares about the place and their customers! We hope to be back in Calabogie to dine at this Bistro again soon.

We got the Dinner for Two and added on an extra side dish. Their chicken balls were like eating chopped and formed little squares of spongey, dried-out greyish gristle, encased in tennis-ball-sized spheres of sponge-like breading, soaked sodden in a corn syrup and ketchup blend. Fried rice was simply and precisely that. Rice. It had been fried. Nothing more, nothing less. Their so- called Chow Mein (actually chop suey) was basically beansprouts in a tepid dishwater. I found a single bit of the stem end of an onion in it. I optimistically got the Cantonese Chow Mein as an extra add-on. Having had this many times other places; I was expecting thin, chewy noodles that have been fried until crispy on the outside, topped with assorted seafood, bbq pork slices and vegetable. What arrived in a tinfoil loaf pan was a solid gelatinous brick of thick, overcooked rubbery pasta encased in beef jelly. There were some canned-looking mushrooms, bok choy, and a few big under-cooked chunks of green pepper piled atop it. It unmolded from the container in a solid block and plopped out onto a plate with a jiggle and a horrible sucking, squelching sound similar to pulling a stuck rainboot out of deep mud. The whole experience was so surreal and weirdly obscene that I couldn't bring myself to try any. It was my birthday. My dear old dad had mailed me a card with fifty dollars inside to "treat myself" to a special dinner. What a sad, sad waste. Even the fortune cookie was stale.

So my…read morebrother often gets him beers from Whitewater Brewery for special occasions like Christmas. For at least the past few years they have a gift set called "The 12 Beers of Christmas." The beers have funny festive names and funky festive flavours. This past year, 2023, some of the beers in this set were "Cuddly as a Cactus" (Green Apple Sour), "Figgin' Christmas Cake" (Christmas Cake Honey Brown) and "Not My Gumdrop Buttons!" (Gingerbread English Ale). Even though I'm not a beer drinker, I do like trying these unusual flavours and having a tiny sip. My comment is usually "too hoppy" or "tastes too much like beer!" Haha. My husband likes the fun flavours but has noted that some of the notes are on the artificial side, and likes their "regular" beers better. They sell their beers online and offer free local delivery (The Ottawa Valley) or you can also pick up at their location in Cobden for free. They deliver to the rest of Ontario for a shipping fee too. Their beers are also available at the LCBO. The 12 Beers of Christmas set is regularly $68 but if you pre-order, you get the pre-order sale price of $54.40, which is what my brother did. It means my husband received his gift a bit early, but I'm proud of my brother for scoring a deal ;) (12)
