Not only do they do delicious meals and employ great staff they also have very resalable prices and a generous portion size. This is hands down the best take away I have ever had the pleasure of eating.

I have memories of this store dating back about four years ago, this store hasn't changed much since then but still remains a decent branch of Tesco and probably their better and more central store in Durham, as they also have an Express store which is quite close to the train station. This store is quite a large one, it seems to be all over one floor, unlike my local Tesco Metro in Manchester city centre which is over two floors. The store stocks a satisfactory selection of drinks and an impressive selection of essentials, even including a selection of games and showcase mobile phones, yet "cheap and budget" mobiles rather than the likes of the Iphone. The staff here also seemed nice enough. This store is one of the larger stores in Durham which I went in on my recent visit to the city, and with a decent selection of groceries and even games, yet not a big enough selection to do a weekly shop. this store is still above average and deserves a solid three-star rating.

Obviously, as items such as these are non- returnable it is important to know what they smell like before purchasing them. However this luxury is not available in body care Durham according to one snotty employee. This made me think- imagine going to purchase some shoes and not being allowed to try them on before you buy them? Stupidity, I agree. After the bodycare employee disgruntledly told us this, she continued to slyly follow us around the shop. To me this was insinuating that we were shop lifters about to run off with some of their overpriced products. This was not the case however, when my girlfriend and I went to pay, the lady on the till was also extremely rude, she did not look at us once and said her words under her breath whilst loudly chewing some gum. Yes, this was at 5:15pm, 15 minutes before they close however this type of customer service is pathetic- it does not hurt to smile and be polite. I said to my girlfriend as we walked out "service with a smile." I will not be going back.

What has prompted this review is their mouth watering and delicious rhubarb and custard macaroons that I only discovered last week.....so good that they drew me back every day without fail! If you're a newbie to the French Oven it can be difficult to peruse their selection as it does get pretty busy along the counter but the staff are always more than happy to help and the queue is a reflection of the high quality and fresh food on offer. They also deliver if you want time to consider your order online or buy in bulk. I would highly recommend their macaroons as they are by far the best I've tasted outside of Paris itself! I also tend to favour the sourdough bread or focaccia - so flavoursome and light. Although not a frequent pasty fiend I have sampled their chilli con carne pasty when I was looking for convenience food and it was very tasty although perhaps could have had a bit more filling. Nonetheless I have yet to be disappointed by anything from this little treasure of a bakery.

As you would really, it being a bread shop :-) Anyway, the lady behind the counter was very helpful, and described the bread that was on the back shelves, and I selected a mixed grain. Sitting infont of her on the counter was an interesting dark brown round loaf, with some bright pink bits showing through. She said it was Prawn and something!!! I nearly choked! She said "It's been really popular today and this is the only one left!" I decided I may need to gird my loins a bit more before delving into the dark art of baking to that extreme. I asked if she had a list of the bread they do, and she handed me a Qype card! Whoo hoo for promoting Qype! Not so hot on getting me more info on produce sadly. Maybe a blackboard somewhere with "FreshToday" written on it and a list of bread and cakes available as well as the specials of the day would be very useful I feel. The bread was lovely!
