I saw this place and told him that I always wanted to give this place a try. Kalamata has both a restaurant and pizza place and we opted for the latter. This place also serves sushi as well. The windows were covered up so you can't see the interior but I knew it was a pizza joint. We ordered and shared the following: Eggplant parm pizza- when we got it , Hubs asked if we had the wrong pizza. This didn't look like the usual eggplant parm pizza. It was tiny pieces of eggplant and not like chunks of it. The pizza also had pesto spiral swirled around. It was a nice surprise. Hubs thought the pesto spiral was a nice touch. The pieces of eggplant was very flavorful. The sauce was very flavorful and the pizza crust was nice and soft but crispy enough on the bottom. Shakshuka- this came with 3 eggs. We thought this order was delicious. It came with a few slices of bread but it wasn't enough to sop up the sauce. Hubs brought it home to put it on top of his ramen. LOL. We also took home the tomatoes and cucumbers that came along with it as well. This place is a pleasant surprise. There were a lot of flies flying around the pizzas, but we were surprised that the flies didn't come towards us when we were eating. We were glad to not end up at the Jackson Diner. Will return to try other items on the menu.

It was a quiet Monday, President's Day, late afternoon and coming back from a road trip. Brooklyn Square was the perfect pit stop! We had some pizza, some pasta and some salad and it was all really good. Our server highly recommended sandwich #17 and it was so good. I would have never ordered a grilled shrimp panini - - but this one was loaded with shrimp, avocado, broccoli rabe and fresh mozz -- SO GOOD - - definitely try that one! Service was also very good. Our server had so much patience - - it's hard to decide on an order because everything is so good! There's a reason Dave Portnoy gave Brooklyn Square a 8.9 rating - - the signature "upside down" pizza is so good. (Cheese on the bottom, sauce on the top). It's actually hard to even pick one slice - - so you'll have to go back and try other ones. My husband loves the eggplant rollatini....breaded eggplant rolled with ricotta, spinach, roasted red peppers with mozz on top - -that brings him back to Brooklyn Square every time! There are also quite a few other locations - Manalapan, Toms River, Bradley Beach, and the new Shrewsbury restaurant. I can't wait for them to open up their Marlboro location!

Fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. Honestly, the only problem was that we should've ordered 10 pies because it disappeared fast. The spinach artichoke pie was especially amazing... creamy, perfectly balanced, and a standout favorite. Great pizza, great decision, and now officially a must-stop anytime we're passing through.

Our party of four met here for a kosher dairy lunch. The place is nice with plenty of seating and…read morethe staff is attentive and helpful. We ordered a Fettuccine Alfredo, a truffle grilled cheese, a blackened salmon sandwich and an eggplant Parmesan on a bed of pasta. We heard their pizza is good, but we weren't in the mood for pizza. The fettuccine was nice as was the truffle grilled cheese. I was told the blackened salmon was missing that little bit of spice usually found with a blackened dish. The eggplant Parmesan contained ricotta cheese between the slices which we were okay with, but the eggplant breading was a little overdone. For us, this place seems hit or miss and we're thinking we should have tried the pizza since that was a more popular dish. Maybe we'll get back there to try the pizza.

If you're going for kosher dairy food in Lakewood, this place is probably one of two good places in…read morethe area. Difference here is that these guys know dough and pizza, which means their pizzas (and dessert calzones) will be great. We went on a busy weekend and they had both indoor and outdoor seating. Pizzas were great, and some very funky. There's one with onion rings and bbq sauce, another with mini mozzarella sticks (which is basically just cheese on cheese), and more with roasted cauliflower or broccoli under some more cheese. My advice here is really to try and stick with the stuff with tomato sauce. Would be nice if they incorporated arugula or truffle like some of the more modern NYC Italian restaurants do. Appetizers is where it's at. We didn't try fries, but we did try the tuna tostadas (fish seemed pretty fresh and it was kind of like a crunchy rice), and the nachos (really good and cheesy). This place probably ain't a great idea if you're lactose intolerant. For dessert you definitely want to try the nutella/oreo calzone. Save room. Some minor issues I had was that the service was pretty lacking. Waiters didn't care to properly serve customers and seemed to have an impatient attitude. People that came to bring extra utensils didn't take back our dirty dishes, and for the second half of the meal our table was full of dirty plates. Also the bathroom was used as storage for other stuff, was not clean, and the camera to flush the toilet didn't work. They should put some more money into the staff, clean bathrooms a bit better, and maybe install camera systems for better management. Just my two cents.
