Our server was very friendly and shared a few interesting facts about the reference for 1888. 1888 is the year the city of Jeannette was founded. Nice touch. We originally thought the polenta itself would be baked but it seemed that only the top was baked. We prefer polenta that's crispy on the outside so it wasn't exactly what we had in mind. The sauce on top was also on the sweeter side, though it paired better with the polenta. One thing we have to mention is the portion sizes. They were incredibly generous! My husband ended up getting about four meals out of his polenta dish. We also ordered tiramisu to go which was sweeter than we prefer but enjoyable with a nice espresso flavor. I almost feel bad writing this review because the staff were extremely nice and friendly. Overall, I think the flavors just didn't quite match our personal taste but we appreciated the great service and generous portions.

Next visit we're definitely trying the gelato -- saw it in the case and it's calling our name. Service was friendly, fast, and can't be beat. The service I would rate a 7 out of 10 and the ambiance I would rate 6 out of 10. It tasted very bland as if there were no spices to give it that extra oomph. I won't go back, I've had much better. Whatever I'm missing, I'm hoping someone tells me just what I'm missing. Too expensive for the slice as a true New York slice is much bigger and better.
