The school is beautiful, the dorms are nice as well. Most teachers teach from a powerpoint and I can tell you I barely learned anything. President Alicia Harvey-Smith is a sketchy joke who fumbled the school. I wish I could get my money back, definitely not worth it. The teachers at PTC do not seems to be qualified to teach the course content they are assigned nor do they seem to understand how to use the learning management system Bright Space. For example, my son enjoyed his classes turned in all of his assignments, and was excited to be a student at PTC. Unfortunately he received an F in all of classes in the first quarter. However when I calculated his grade by hand he received 3 B's and 2 C's. I contacted the instructors to let them know about the discrepancies and they replied that the system automatically calculated the grades. Therein lies the problem. The instructor did not assign several assignment that were worth 12 points each but the system automatically calculated the points for those assignment resulting in lowering his grade from a C to an F. Additionally, PTC is deceptive about the qualification of the instructors. For example in the faculty profiles the critical thinking teacher is a male with 15 years of experience. However the critical thinking teacher for my son was a female and she was not included in the faculty profile page. Shady to say the least. read more

I went to this school for the welding degree and got so much nonsense! The actual teachers for welding were really good, offered real time feedback and provided some insight to the field. They offered plenty of hands on practice and time if you were willing to put in the work. The English department also did a good job in teaching their material. It's unfortunate that it's really not applicable to the average welder because the teachers know their stuff. The rest of the school though? Complete tomfoolery. Might as well call it Pittsburgh Technical Circus with how ridiculous the school runs. The financial aid department is a joke, they don't care about the students at all. They just want their money and the one lady there is very condescending and really adds to the fact they don't care. Pretty much any of the people above the teachers are only good for pushing pencils. They don't listen to teachers who actually want to educate their students. They love to waste money on facetious things like mascot stuff than put money into the supplies students need and use. Overall, if you're looking for welding only go for the certificate or go elsewhere!!!! read more

I chose to come to Pittsburgh Technical College instead of a university because the instructors really work with you, and you actually get hands on experience with a degree in only two years or less! If you're looking for a college with parties every weekend, then this college isn't for you. On campus housing is very strict, clean, and quiet. I do not regret coming here at all. Managed interns from there many years back and found them ill prepared, but most recently my daughter enrolled there and eventually left whe it was clear that there was no light at the end of this expensive tunnel...and this is the subject of my review. The institute (now called a college as a result of some reorganization...I suspect financial)is, in my mind, in the same general category as the Art Institute...pack 'em in, load up the loans and promise the sun, the moon, and the stars. Tons of money has been invested in infrastructure to give the illusion of a 'college', but the programs seem substandard and would probably benefit from an investment equivalent to that made in erecting buildings and polishing of outward appearance. The integrity of an any program rests with the talent, experience and integrity of the faculty who run it. Ask good people to cut corners, dilute the instruction and turn the crank to churn out ill-prepared graduates, and they will eventually follow their consciences and leave..and many talented instructors seem to have done just that. I'd been hearing a lot about this school, both good and bad recently, so even though my time there is so long past it's probably changed so much,the opinion will be really dated, I'll throw my 2 cents in on tech vs uni in general. I went to the school the first year it opened, I believe in 2000. It was just the main building at the time and very few classes were offered. We lived in the now Robert Morris dorms on beers school road that used to be a hampton inn, that were called boyd dorms at the time. I majored in graphic design and spent almost 2 yrs there before leaving, for personal reasons and that the field just wasn't what i ended up wanting to do. The teachers were just like any school. Some great, some terrible, some just ok. I currently attend a pretty large University and I will tell you, it's the same wherever you go, PTI to Harvard. Money doesn't necessarily guarantee quality, and that was the biggest issue with PTI, the money. That and the promises they give you. I'm about to graduate with a bachelors in psychology and i went from an associates program, and then into the bachelors at a different school, and I've actually spent comparable or less for 4 yrs than the 2 at PTI. It was very expensive to go to PTI. My parents were not happy at the time I left for how much it cost. It may be 2yrs, but like others have said, this is not a CHEAP alternative. And to be frank, depending on the field you go into, a 2yr degree isn't going to always get you very far. Some, it maybe just fine, and that's great, but often times today, a minimum bachelors is preferred. So, if you're going to spend that much anyway, why not just get the BA at another school? You can go to PTI if they offer it and you think it's fair, but I'd be leery. And their promises, 97% or better job placement rating, yeah, no. Oh, they'll help get you a job, but it won't necessarily be in your field. All schools embellish, but they were particularly bad. I'm not sure if that's changed, but beware. All in all, I'm not a university snob, i think most colleges are money grabbers, with unnecessary classes and extra fees, the whole system needs revamped, but hopefully you get something out of it in the end. But if you seriously want to save some money, i feel there's cheaper choices than this out there. I'm not saying absolutely don't go here, but be studious and ask hard questions,don't just buy the glossy sales pitch. Tech schools can be fine for many careers, just choose wisely. read more

None of my instructors at this school taught me anything, except the English instructors. I felt as if I was wasting my time and especially my money. I would go to class everyday just to sit there for at least an hour doing absolutely nothing as the instructor talked amongst her favorite students. When she did actually "teach", she got side tracked. If you're looking for summer breaks, don't go here. The biggest break you're going to get is about 3 weeks. It was a huge waste of time and money. I ended up transferring schools, the admissions department was extremely unhelpful. Spent about 20,000 just for 5 general ed classes to transfer. The financial aid department is horrible. They only cared about getting my money. They also gave me a $500 fine for breaking my lease. Ridiculous. It's a huge financial inconvenience. Don't waste your time like I did. read more

The education aspect of this school is wonderful. Most of the teachers really care about your success. The setup of the programs is really nice. Although, on campus housing is a problem. There are too many students with cars and not enough parking spaces. Rather than find a solution to this problem, they just gave out tickets. read more

Graduated from their business program in 2013. The training itself was great in that I didn't have many classes that were those gen ed classes. It kept me interested plus the program was only 2 years. They helped me find a job after I graduated and since then I've continued on and gotten my bachelors. It was nice to have credits from a tech school that transferred. I think they offer 4 year degrees now (just got something in the mail about them) but since my job paid for that part of my education it was a no brainer. read more

Alright, Ignore any other review on here that isn't a five start because holy ****! I literally cannot even begin to put into words how...fun, exciting, educational, eye-opening, interactive, engaging, and life-changing my time at PTC was! The Review your about to read will be written by a CAD student who started in 2018 and will be graduating soon with high honors. From the get-go, PTC proved how they vary from other colleges, in the best way possible. When I was preparing to apply to PTC my father was in critical condition in the hospital, so I was alone. I didn't know what I was doing and so I contacted PTC's helpdesk. They sat down and over an hour, step-by-step helped me complete my application and were extremely understanding and kind. Once I was accepted, then came financial aid. We were worried about my fathers ability to co-sign for my student loans due to medical bills. Financial aid went WAY out of their way to help and did absolutely everything they could to make it as smooth and easy as possible. They sat both of us down, walked us through all the steps and clearly explained everything. They even helped us apply for an emergency grant that ended up cutting over 4k off my tuition. After I was accepted, then came move in day and starting classes. Housing was fantastic with giving us information and getting us setup and comfortable in our rooms. For anyone wondering, the walls are well insulated so noise doesn't travel through them much at all. As for people above or below you, I can honestly say I have never even HEARD the people around me. When it came time to start classes...oh my god. I want to take this opportunity to praise the incredible instructors at PTC. The overall GENUINE dedication to student success is something at PTC that is unparalleled at any other college. EVERY! SINGLE! INSTRUCTOR! Went WAY above and beyond the call of duty with assisting students or answering questions. I want to give a special shoutout to Mark Malecki, Brian Maitland, Steve Matheny, Nicholas Otteni, and John Wyland for there passion in teaching. NOT ENOUGH can be said to convey just how much these men shaped my life and helped with EVERY. SINGLE. question, request, idea, problem, etc. I ever had. They even have a Remind message system for students, and they have replied to questions anytime from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. consistently. Classes are very well structured and relate everything to the real-world application of the skills your learning. There aren't a lot of general education classes are given at PTC so everything you learn, YOU WILL USE. Student activities is always putting up posters for different events ranging from movie nights to jeopardy nights to discounted Kenny wood tickets for students or even outdoor foam parties. The atmosphere at PTC is incredible, everyone I ever encountered was friendly, open, and willing to talk or help with problems and it is a great place to be. My experience was nothing short of exceptional, and I have started working full-time at my dream job. All thanks to the incredible dedication of the fine men and women at PTC. If you are looking for a college that will let your instructors know you by name, answer your questions with a personalized twist that will be best for you, that has an amazing financial aid and housing team ready to assist with any need you may have, AND a student activates team that runs events year round to keep life at PTC exciting and fun. The massage program and teachers are wonderful here! I loved my program. However, it is very pricy for a technical school and financial aid is not very helpful and tend to tell you one thing then go ahead and do another even if you've made an agreement. read more
