I don't remember my first experience at Donair grill but my Second has been amazing. I got a regular sized beef donair with sweet sauce, tzatziki, and garlic, for veggies I got the works. This was amazing. I mean seriously I usually dread getting donairs in Calgary but this was the best one I've had since Barcelona. The fries and gravy were something I wouldn't get again though, they were your average Mccains style Crinkle cut fries with subpar seasoning and the gravy was about the same... They could improve a lot on these with wedge cut fries and a house herb seasoning (like Opa fries and a higher quality, lighter, more liquid, less salty gravy or tzaztiki sauce on the side) which is why I dropped a star... HOWEVER the donairs (which is really why you're going there anyways) are pretty darn good. I definitely recommend trying this place out. We went at noon and luckily they weren't busy... I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoyed mine :)

I'm extremely picky about food, as you can probably tell from my other reviews, but this was quite possibly the best chicken shawarma I've had in Calgary, and believe me, I've tried shawarma from a lot of different places! I understand that a great meal can come down to a combination of things: the chef being on their game, how hungry you are, and how fresh the ingredients are. But today, everything came together perfectly. It was outstanding! When the young lady was preparing my shawarma, I told her to make it exactly how she would like it herself. I wanted to experience what she considered the perfect shawarma, and she certainly did not disappoint! Now, I do believe that some restaurants can be one-hit wonders, so I'll definitely be back to see whether they can deliver the same experience a second time. Consistency, after all, is what separates a good restaurant from a great one. But as far as today's experience goes, well done! Oh, and holy crap the thing was huge. I only ate half of it and I usually try and finish the whole thing. So worth the money.

I could taste the freshness of the parsley and the sweetness of the turnips. The red onions added a nice crunch to it. Even the tomatoes were juicy. The best part of the donair is the meat and the bread itself. The outer layer is crisp from the grill yet chewy from the sauces. The double wrapped donair also makes it less messy to eat because it holds in the sauces and juices. I like the garlic sauce but next time I would opt out of the sweet sauce. It was too sweet for my taste. Service was very good. The staff there were friendly and welcoming. Special care it put into the carving of the meats, grilling it, and assembling the wrap. To date, this is my favourite place for a donair wrap in Calgary.

I don't enjoy writing negative reviews, especially about a food I genuinely love. Chicken shawarma…read moreis one of my favorite meals and I've tried it at many restaurants across the area. Unfortunately, this experience was disappointing. The pricing was the first shock. Two large chicken shawarmas and a small order of fries came to nearly $65. Even two medium shawarmas without fries would have been around $45. In my opinion, those prices are extremely difficult to justify. More importantly, the food itself did not live up to the hype. The shawarma was edible and filling, but it was far from one of the better shawarmas I've had. Given the restaurant's popularity and the amount of praise it receives online, I expected something exceptional. Instead, I found it average at best. For the price, the quality simply wasn't there. It wasn't worth the cost, the wait, or the expectations created by the marketing and reviews. Unfortunately, I won't be returning.
