It's premade, it's machine processed, it's soft-serve, it's pure fat, and it is absolutey a cheep treat. This dip in the typical white crumbling shack is pretty standard for the type, the walk up and hang in the heat place with all the usual ice cream dishes and comfort food as you'd expect. I think three stars is fair here, though I was tempted to go lower. The hotdog I had was $1.50 and its quality match the price--a basic frank boiled. The mustard and onions I garnished it with was decent. I had a chocolate shake and I was dissapointed. For $3.00, the large size I ordered wasn't large enough for the price, and it wasn't filled completely at that, and most of it was more frosty goop than liquid; Graeter's makes theirs with real hard ice cream and real milk and price their large at $5 which is larger, so I feel justified expecting pre-bagged, soft-serve to be served at the same amount priced $3. By policy they'll only run cards for bills above five-bucks. They were going to add a surcharge to mine as I was a dollar short. I asked them to add a bag of chips--no need to pay a dollar for nothing. This is something they should suggest. But the staff was high schoolers probably working their first jobs so I will forgive them. There are about three concrete tables with benches out in the dusty lot to sit on.

Very different, very good! Yellowfin tuna sandwich. Thick slice of tuna, Broccoli slaw, tropical rum sauce. Off-the-charts! Langostino, pea risotto. An excellent perfectly prepared risotto, langistino, peas and Parmesan cheese. Just delicious! Lemon blueberry tart. What a way to finish the meal! A lemon tart with blueberry sauce and a honey brittle. Wow! We loved it all! As Arnold said, 'I'll be back!'

Unfortunately, the larger dining room on the other side is the complete opposite--sterile, plain, and uninspired. It could really benefit from a decorator who could bring it in line with the vibe of the bar and outdoor areas. 17 West positions itself as the nicest (and essentially only upscale) restaurant in the New Bremen area, but it falls short of that goal. I ordered the Spicy Chicken Salad sandwich with mashed potatoes. What arrived was a croissant that looked like it came straight from the IGA bakery, topped with a single sad leaf of lettuce and a thin, pale tomato slice. The chicken salad was scooped with what appeared to be an ice cream scoop and simply plopped onto the bread. The result was a bland sandwich with almost no spice or flavor. The mashed potatoes were presented the same way--scooped and unappealing. Overall, the presentation was cafeteria-level at best, and I've had better sandwiches in hospital cafeterias. My wife ordered the Firecracker Chicken. Her side salad was tiny and unremarkable, and while the chicken leg itself tasted decent, it was still just a sauced chicken leg. At $22, it felt significantly overpriced. 17 West likely wouldn't survive in a larger city with real competition. In the New Bremen area, however, it benefits from having very little rivalry, which allows it to stay in business despite the clear mismatch between its prices and the quality and presentation of the food.

5-stars for this area, a bit less if considered on a grander scale…read more This is a nice little addition to Sidney and will undoubtedly give other local (and chain) ice cream spots a run for their money. K&J's have a very courteous and friendly young crew working for them. (Unfortunately, not common in this area; thus, bonus!) The shoppe is also clean, bright, and inviting. Kiddos will enjoy seeing Annabelle, the store's mascot, in addition to use of the color-changing spoons. K&J's have a plethora of homemade hand-dipped flavors, in addition to shakes and soft serve offerings. Flavors are frequently changed up with new additions. Small spoon samples are happily provided as are (reasonably priced!) doggy cups (although pups need to enjoy theirs outdoors). Speaking of outdoors, several bright picnic tables have recently been installed for all. There is also a drive-thru for those in need of their ice cream fix, yet perhaps in their jammies.

There was a large assortment of flavors of hand dipped ice cream as well as soft serve. The ice creams aren't made in house but they have them shipped in from Wisconsin and they are very creamy and tasty. The prices were extremely reasonable and the portions were generous. The customer service was top notch. If you are in the area give this ice cream a try and you'll be happy you did. Definitely will be returning soon and telling friends and family to get out, support local and enjoy some indulgent treats.
