Bonus for the AAA discount. This museum isn't very large but the exhibits are well done. You'll maybe be here like 15 to 20 minutes but it's fun if you don't know a lot about the German immigrants here. There's a small gift store as well. Parking is a small lot.

Dottie our tour guide was very informative and friendly. The gift shop has lots of New Braunfels souvenirs and books. Love all the German Steins and German hats.

There are two wings, but it definitely feels smaller once you're inside than it looks from the outside. The other wing on the opposite side of the building houses artifacts documenting local life of the families in the community including jewelry, clothing, dolls, household equipment, etc. But of course - it's the cannon that everyone is there for. I'll start with the good: the cannon itself is super cool to see in person. It's a bit smaller than the dramatic image most of us likely have in our heads, but it's still incredibly interesting knowing it's the real deal. The story of how they authenticated it was actually one of the most interesting parts things I learned in the museum (which I'd been wondering that exact thing as I learned about its history before I got to that exhibit). That said - I did walk away a tad disappointed. Aside from the main display with the cannon and a few small exhibits and video, the museum quickly shifted into a general "war museum." There are guns, uniforms, and donated artifacts from local families. For a museum built around one of the most iconic symbols of Texas independence, I just expected little more storytelling, more context, and more artifacts from that era. if you're a history lover, it's worth a stop just to see the cannon. Just don't expect a full deep dive into the revolution. It's def more of a general walk through of local history but with one heck of a legendary artifact as its centerpiece.

These buildings have been moved out there, and make it so you can step back in time all at once. It is so beautiful the originality of the houses/huts and the furniture that was handmade back in the day. Everything has some sort of history and story to it from sewing machines, baby dolls and cribs, to cow hide chairs, chamber pots, and hand-made wardrobes. It really makes you see how back then our ancestors really worked for everything. Make sure you come when it's open and you can go inside and get a tour that is filled with information about it all. It really makes you feel connected with the land and the history of what New Braunfels was and is all about. I knew this city had history, but this just blows it all out of proportion.

Beds, cabinets, desks, etc. Are on display to see up close (just don't touch). Unfortunately pictures are not allowed inside the museum (not sure why). But trust me it's worth the $8. A much unexpected bonus are the various cottages and buildings on the grounds that show (sometimes demonstrate) skills and crafts of that time.

Admission is $10/adult, and for some reason it was free when we went which was a nice surprise! I will say it is completely worth the admission price if you show up on a day that you have to pay. They had a good mix of movies, pictures, and information. It was all very high quality, and I learned a lot in this museum. We didn't make it to the top floor because we wanted time to go to lunch before our flight but I assume it was of the same quality as the rest of the museum. Highly recommend!

There was a sign saying which said free admission, so decided to check it out. It was an old building and when I entered I was told to sign in. I guess they want to keep a record of guests and there was a donation jar next to it. I started exploring all about Lyndon Baines Johnson who not only was President of the United States of America but graduated from Texas State University (formerly Southwest Texas State Teachers College in 1930). The museum is a bit small but does recognize his achievements as president by all the Acts he passed. There are some mementos on display and information about Lady Bird Johnson. It is very positive here so will not find anything about the Vietnam War or old political controversies. There is an upstairs but nothing much up there except a few exhibits and a large room for meetings and presentations. I enjoyed it and dropped a few bucks in the donation jar on my way out.

Now, you can see a Texas-sized version in the middle of downtown Gonzalez, where there's a giant flagpole in the middle of town. This town does have some things to do- there's Palmetto State Park right outside of town, a pioneer's village and a museum, to name a few. The downtown square has some beautiful old buildings, and a scenic view of the flagpole. It's situated right down the road from Shiner, Texas. So you know they get some fresh beer.

This place is best for little kids and they have several events throughout the year like the haunted village. There are a few interesting buildings with furniture but for adults, it's a pretty quick walk-through. We were the only ones there on a Saturday which was nice in that we weren't rushed but a bit odd though the staff was friendly. They do have some cold beverages for sale.

I love history and this interesting landmark came up while on a geocaching adventure. As one of my…read morepics says, "Lindheimer was a local botanist who named a lot of the plantlife and flora in Texas" and it's amazing when you realize just how much he influenced that particular world in science. I never would have guessed that this house was right there had it not been for geocaching. I thought someone would come out and yell at me for trespassing but even though the official tours have to be arranged via appointment, you can still wander around the grounds and take a look. The view down to the Comal River is really nice as well. Plenty of great pics can be taken just from the outside alone.
