Early in the spring and summer I usually have a fat little belly, so I try to find a place where there aren't too many people to start my sun tanning. This park is great for that. Beyond the pathway, up the steps, you will find a little grassy area that is somewhat out of the way. That is the spot for an insecurity-free suntan. The park itself is out of the tourist parts of town but still in the center of the city. This to me makes it feel like more of a locals park. There is typically plenty of parking and the park is located right by the river. There are restrooms here and even a large covered area for larger groups. There are several grassy sections, two are on the top of the park and pretty flat, and the other is on a hill. This actually makes for a pretty fun game of frisbee. This park has picnic tables and even a little podium like section with a little uphill view and plenty of benches. If you are in downtown and Drake Park is a little crowded for you, you might want to walk the river trail over to Pioneer. It's great for large groups or just a casual walk. read more
