The Cloth Shop has an expansive range of fabrics and that's really their speciality but that's only just the beginning. The other departments are also really well stocked and with great variety too. There's a table and chairs upstairs along with some sewing pattern books with designs of varying levels of difficulty. This is a really good source of inspiration and helpful for beginners. It got me really excited to get learning and creating. I'm so looking forward to buying some pretty fabrics from The Cloth Shop soon and making a start on some personal projects!

It's impossible to describe this place adequately…read more All three of the branches in Edinburgh (also on the Royal Mile and in the Grassmarket) are tiny and absolutely crammed with any type of trinket you could ever imagine. The kinds things that you see when you're in Morocco, South America or Thailand and would love to buy but know there's no point even trying to get it back the the UK in one piece. They have drapes, throws, incense, jewellery, handmade notebooks, hanging masks/purses/bags/just about anything you can think of to hand-make... but the best thing is the prices. The kind of ethnic-looking jewellery or homeware you'd happily pay loads for in a department store can be snapped up here for pennies. Don't miss... the pashminas. The amount of times people have stroked whichever of Lokaah's pashminas from my extensive collection that I'm wearing that day and asked where I got it from, and told me how they bet it had cost a bomb, has to be some kind of indicator! What's more, you can bag yourself one for as little as £2. My description of this place doesn't do it justice - you have to go and see for yourself.

Definitely come here if you're into harem pants, incense, and saris. In my opinion Lokaah is a cut above other similar shops that tend to be incredibly expensive. In particular Lokaah stocks a range of amazing hand-carved wooden figures and chests that make ideal gifts. They even accept Euros here, so stop by to unload unwanted shrapnel on lovely trinkets.

I went a bit overboard and purchased wool items for myself as well as gifts. I felt like the prices are reasonable for what you're getting. Gorgeous scarves and blankets here. The large wool scarf I bought for myself literally saved my life while we were in Scotland. It was no more than 35 degrees the whole time. Although I prepared for cold weather, the cold in Scotland is very humid and penetrating. It didn't get through my Calzeat scarf though. I was toasty warm with my beautiful keepsake from Edinburgh. Thank you to the lovely woman working here who dealt with our thousands of obnoxious American questions with grace. We very much appreciated your assistance. No parking here; find a spot down the way and walk up. Totally worth the trip.

I'm in the process of re-doing my bedroom and i've been window shopping here for weeks. They have some lovely throw pillows and blanket - a bit of out of my price range (a throw blanket will run you around £70) but lovely nonetheless. What I have had my eye on (and was surprised to find) were the scarves. I'm learning very quickly that umbrellas don't work in Scotland. Yes, i'm the gal that spent her first few months constantly battling upside down umbrellas. Since this epiphany, i've been stocking up on warm hats and scarves to brave the colder/wetter/windier weather. This place has a nice selection of scarves at decent prices (about £15-20 to start), in cute neutral colours. I even picked up a scarf to send home to the mother unit when I first popped in. Helpful folks. Warm weather survival scarves. All in all, not a bad place to poke your head in.
