The confirmation email I was sent before the start of the course gave me all the information I needed before arrival so when I got in the morning there I was ready to rock. The course took place at a beautiful private range and the class size really allowed for hands on instruction and one-on-one when it was needed.Both Evan and Ben are extremely knowledgeable when it comes to home defense and the use of your handgun in that scenario. We had the opportunity to run through some scenario-based training and the course was a good mix of classroom instruction and range time. Every instructor I worked with was extremely competent and clearly brought deep experience from law enforcement, military shooting, and competition backgrounds. Across the three courses I had a mix of returning and new instructors, which meant I benefited from multiple perspectives, different teaching styles, and constant constructive feedback throughout the training. One thing that really stood out was the student-to-instructor ratio, which never exceeded roughly 5-6 students per instructor. That meant everyone received real coaching and corrections instead of just standing on the line burning ammo. The learning environment was excellent. There were no egos among the instructors or students, which is honestly rare in the firearms training world. The instructors were down to earth, approachable, and connected well with the class, which made the training both productive and genuinely enjoyable. Spending full days on the range can be a grind, but these guys made it fun. They also did a great job of accommodating different skill levels without slowing the class down or rushing anyone. The training simply flowed in a way that kept everyone progressing. The facilities were more than adequate for the course material and allowed the instructors to run drills safely and effectively. I've spent 27 years in the military and now work in executive protection, and I've trained with a lot of different instructors and organizations over the years. And no, I don't plan to walk around with a gun in my purse (Maryland state gun laws prohibit that anyway), but I have been wanting to learn how to properly use a gun and to get my handgun license. I had only been to the gun range once and I remember not being fully prepared to handle the recoil. I found Prolific Operations through Instagram and realized it is a Black-owned business, led by two men with more than a decade each of firearms experience. I emailed a few questions that I had about what the class covers and COVID-related safety protocols and received really prompt (and reassuring!) responses. Registration was very simple and the class started promptly the day of. There were several bottles of hand sanitizer, everyone stayed spaced out, and the instructional guns were disinfected between students. The class was super informative and safety rules were constantly reinforced. We all drove to a gun range about 15 minutes away where we were able to use the knowledge we obtained in the classroom. Even as a petite woman with long acrylic nails, I was confident in holding and firing the gun because of how well we were taught to hold the gun. I highly recommend Prolific Operations if you want to obtain your HQL and familiarize yourself with how to properly operate a firearm.
