    Stromboli Spaghetti with Marinara Sauce
    Michael B.

I was stuck in another stopped traffic incident in I-95. So looking for a place to grab I bite I pulled off in Wilson, NC and order a Stromboli from Pino's. I'm so glad I tried this place. This an awesome Stromboli with great marinara sauce. The store wasn't much to look at inside or outside. However, the lady at the counter was super nice, friendly and greeted with a smile. That can go a long ways!! There were tons of filling and it was cooked to perfection. Some places leave the middle a little under cooked and the center bottom is almost raw... not here it was Perfect!! The marinara tasted homemade, if it's not, they fooled me! It was chunky and tasted great!

Stopped on our drive down I-95. Great pizza, tasty with a perfect thin crust! We also shared a salad with Italian dressing that was very fresh & good, with mushrooms, onions, tomatoes and black olives. Our server was very friendly and on point. A perfect pitstop, thank you!

While driving north from Charleston towards New York, we stopped in here for a quick bite at lunch time on a Tuesday. It's so hard to find something that's good and quick and we ducked in here hoping that the universal love of pizza would give us something worth eating. When we arrived, we were the only ones in the restaurant during the lunch rush. The server was very friendly and told us to help ourselves to the beverage closet while we looked over the menu and decided what we wanted to order. We decided to order a pizza by the slice, and the server told us that they were running a lunch special of two slices and a drink for something like $6.50. He ordered plain cheese and I ordered cheese, ricotta, and basil. The pizza came out fast, which told me that it was probably pre-made and sitting around for somebody to order it. Both of us noted that our pizzas had a very thick layer of oil on top which was off-putting but we tried to blot it as best we could and see how the pizza was anyway. The cheese was very rubbery, and the bottom of the crust was overcooked, likely because it was cooked previously and then recooked with our new toppings. Although the server was friendly, the restaurant was somewhat odd. I noticed while I was sitting and waiting for my meal, that they had nine or 10 security cameras just in the seating area which had maybe 10 tables? I thought this was overkill or possibly an indication of the safety of where this was...or maybe someone paranoid? Regardless it was very odd to me. Prices were good however for people who are wanting a quick and cheap bite, but for me, I've had cheaper and better pizza at Costco.

Truthfully, this was a 2nd option for lunch as the burger place had no seats available. Two large window signs promote the lunch specials. One is two slices of pizza and a drink, the other is a sub or sandwich, fries, and a drink. I went with the latter. When I was asked for my order, I selected the veal parmigiana sub with a sweet tea. I was informed that they did not have sweet tea and only offer canned beverages. (Dear business: this is the South. Sweet tea is pretty much required to be offered.) I was disappointed in the veal, as it was sliced into pieces and not what most would expect when ordering this item. Flavor was ok. I was also not impressed to find walmart brand ketchup on the table. Don't believe I will return when I'm in the area.

Driving I-95. Pino's to the rescue

Pino's to the rescue! Driving north on 1-95 and stopped at our 2nd Pino's because our visit to Emporia was so great. We were hungry! Ordered eggplant parm sandwiches ( no cheese). And boy were they delicious! They came with fries with Cajun spicing... never eat fries but we HAD to eat these. Great stop.

For pizza, we tried one with red onions and olives, and a sausage pizza - excellent pizza, fantastic prices. Subs were inexpensive and delicious. Now to the sad part: pasta dishes. We had lasagna and manicotti, and neither of us were happy with our meal. There was a ridiculous amount of cheese and little flavor to the rest of the dish. The sauce was meh. I was raised on east coast Italian food (NY/NJ) and had Italian grandparents. Something is definitely missing with their pasta game. It is affordable and likely good enough for the neighborhood, but their pasta dishes disappointed. We will be back for sandwiches and pizza. They have a large dining room and a robust takeout business. Their prices do not break the bank. There were several large tables with happy families chowing down. Dudes at the counter: pretend like you want us here. Mumbling and rolling your eyes at customers is not welcoming. You should smile more! You'll wait a long time if you don't call and order ahead, so don't be dumb like us.

Service was stellar and it was an easy in/easy out dining experience. As for ambiance, it's bipolar. An unclear mixed bag of what the business actually is - Smack dab at the entrance immediately upon entering is a 3-in-1 hostess station-ticket exchange counter for kids-cash register that morphs at a 90° angle inward into a wall of liquor with TV's above a bar. Front and center is a handful of tables, beyond is the semi-open kitchen and on the left is a widened entry into a 1980's-1990's arcade games room. Don't expect Dave & Buster's caliber of games or intentional segregation of adults only vs family acceptable zones. Good potential for preteens+ to ride their bikes to and grab some grub with their friends if the booze wasn't so dominant. There may have been a bicycle rack outside, I cannot recall. I can see this as a spot for families to go for a kid-friendly dining spot and for those who don't mind eating amid kids being kids in a kid-friendly place as Downtown Wilson continues its quest to clean itself up. Worth a repeat visit later in the future as it should be interesting to see how this business evolves, similar to the rest of the immediate area, once it finds its stride and nails down the demographic that is its bread and butter.
