Shockingly, my husband doesn't really like pizza…read more That said, he likes Tin Pan Alley pizza. Having recently taken over this space from the much-adored Deliza Cucina, Tin Pan Alley has changed little but installed an enormous woodfired pizza oven. The toppings on offer are authentically minimalist (if you've visited Italy, you'll know what I mean) as are the bases. In a way that only a local pizza place can be, the team are warm, friendly and fun. You can even eat in without feeling like you're in anyone's way as they have a full restaurant... the takeaway pizza component is simply a convenience offering. Very importantly (to me, at any rate) they offer gluten free bases and are even careful enough not to cut the pizza with the same implements used to cut the regular ones, thus avoiding cross-contamination. The only thing that prevents this place from getting a full five stars is that the toppings are a bit on the gourmet side. I mean, blue cheese on a pizza? I don't mind the stuff, but no. Yucktown. By all means offer it, but give us a regular capriciosa too.

All of the pasta, pizza and gelato is made fresh on premises. Tonight we had the antipasto platter, a tropicano and a pescatore pizza and a spaghetti bolognaise. All of the food was delicious and nice and fast. Pizzas were crispy and with real slices of ham not the packet pizza stuff and the spag Bol was delish. To finish off we had to have some of the homemade gelato and my goodness I would cross town for it! Three courses with a drink each under $30 a head. I look forward to going back here for the food but mostly for the family feel the staff had. I love feeling like a local on a first visit. Congrats pronto for food with heart! Smiles were indeed plentiful and all the staff were super friendly, which added to the ambience of the place. It was once food and drink were served that things started to go downhill. We were looking forward to taking advantage of the Tuesday 'pasta and wine for $25' special. The price didn't exactly scream 'bargain' but it was an opportunity to sample what this place could do. Only there were conditions attached. Pasta didn't mean all pasta, only certain dishes. And the wine selection was reduced to one glass of house, white or red. Neither looked especially appetising and would only have saved us some light change anyway, so we tried the pasta specials. The food was alright. Not stunning or memorable, but good enough. The wine was hit and miss (one glass tasted like it had been open for a week). We ended up spending close to $100 for three glasses of wine (between two) and two quite small main dishes. On their 'special deal' night. We're unlikely to return.
