Yet, as a woman of faith I trusted that God would help me find a new tax preparer. . . After a two-week search, I am very thankful to have chosen Ms. Rebecca Barrett. I'm old school when it comes to my taxes so I appreciate tax preparers who are willing to meet face-to-face (especially the first time) to review my documentation (i.e. my prepared spreadsheets). I don't like the idea of sending my documentation to a business via email (even with a secured site) or dropping them off to an office. When it comes to business, money, and/or financial planning, I want to sit across from a seasoned professional and have a conversation. Ms. Barrett was on-time, courteous, knowledgable, friendly, and patient. Those are just some of the superlatives that I would attribute to her upon our first meeting. After feeling I was not getting great service and having to correct many entries myself in order to prepare my books for the CPA, I switched companies. The new bookkeeper found over 100 transactions never reconciled and several accounts not reconciled. Stephanie refused to take any responsibilty, claimed the accounts not reconciled were not in her notes, despite them showing up in Quickbooks every month and her never reaching out to be to verify. I'm really unhappy with the service and hope we do not discover anything worse as I now have to pay for a complete review of my books. Spent about half the time rambling about people we knew and things going on in Salinas. The bill was ridiculous. All Francis told me was that he bills $330/hr for accounting. My question was, "Did you do some paperwork that I'm unaware of?" He will not get my future business nor the business of my family and friends. What a rip off. Follow up: After seeing my yelp review they decided to write off my bill for the short meeting. The meeting to see if I wanted to use this tax firm. I got a call advising me of this and the caller seemed upset. I was lectured that they bill for time and the caller told me that he did not want my business. Yes, they bill for time doing accounting and I completely understand that. For example, if you buy an ice cream...you pay for the product, the ice cream. You are not billed for waiting in line...that would be excessive and unreasonable. The fact that the caller did not realize this doesn't make it any better.
