Aloha - My roof was showing its age at 28 years old, and I decided I needed a new roof before major…read moreproblems set in that could cost me a fortune to fix. I'm a senior at 80 with a limited budget--living on Social Security and a small amount of savings--so I had to be very careful about choosing the right roofer. I called several companies for bids and was shocked at the prices. The highest was over $28,000 for a full tear-off and replacement. That was far beyond what I could afford to replace my roof. In my research I learned that Hawaii allows up to three layers of roofing, which meant I could add a second layer and avoid the costly tear-down. Unfortunately, many of the larger companies wouldn't even consider this 2nd layer option, so I kept searching. That's when I found Dave Bushnell with Right On Roofing. Dave is a small business owner who handles the roofing work himself, without the big overhead costs of truck fleets and crews to worry about. Dave understood my situation and agreed to install the second layer of roofing at a price I could manage. That included me paying for the materials directly so there was no extra profit mark up on materials like the big boys do. That was really great and saved me even more. After discussing my situation and my limited senior budget...Dave agreed to add the 2nd layer roofing for me at a very affordable price. Hiring Dave turned out to be one of the best decisions I've made in a long time. Dave did a really great job and showed up on time every day, put in 10-hour days, and worked steadily until the new roof was done. He didn't cut corners, cleaned up thoroughly, and kept me informed throughout the process. I was extremely impressed with Dave's work effort and the quality of work he did. The new roof now looks beautiful, and I have peace of mind knowing my new roof is solid and well-done for many years to come. Dave is professional, honest, and takes pride in his work--qualities that are hard to find these days. I would highly recommend Dave Bushnell and Right On Roofing to anyone in need of a roof--especially seniors or anyone on a tight budget who still wants top-quality work. You'll be glad you called him.

If you're needing a new roof, I feel your pain. That's a very expensive project and it's hard to…read moreenjoy while you're sitting in your living room. Everything in my home was builder grade, including the roof. In 25 years, large areas of these low grade shingles had granules that had washed away and the shingles were getting brittle. The boots around plumbing vent pipes had rubber seals that had rotted away, letting water get by. After asking friends and neighbors for recommendations for a good roofer, we got 3 bids for a replacement roof, and they were all nearly identical, if you only look at the price. I was impressed when Bryndon, of Advanced Roofing Solutions came out, he didn't climb up on the 2nd story roof. He sent his drone up for closeup videos. He told me that my roof could last a few more years but we agreed that it was smart to be proactive now. Bryndon answered all of our questions and didn't try to pressure us at all. When I received and compared the 3 bids, the Advanced Roofing Solutions offer looked much more impressive. It included the high quality of materials I expected and then some. We were in business. The crew was ready to start on our roof in a couple of weeks. The workers were all friendly, on time, hard working and very courteous. They cleaned up the area completely every day, too. They used a rubbery underlayment that has an adhesive backing so it sticks to the plywood roof. This is normally done to the lowest 3' of roof (if at all), but they covered the whole roof with this premium product. They used lead boots on the vent pipes, giving a good, longer lasting seal than rubber provides. They added aluminum drip edge flashing all the way around, to protect the fascia board. Why didn't the builder think of that? They used shorter nails on the lowest part of the roof, so nails wouldn't be sticking out under our open soffit. And finally, Advanced Roofing Solutions included a 50 year, 5 star warranty from CertainTeed that is transferable. I've shared my experience with neighbors who are also dealing with Advanced Roofing Solutions.

Back in September 2023 reported issue of Tesla Powerwall+ not working correctly…read more The issue is during daylight hours the battery will switch over to standby mode where we do not have use of energy until dark (about 6pm) For instance if we charge car or use dryer during the day solar energy may only provide 50% of energy needed it should pull remaining energy needed from battery but instead it pulls from the grid. This is when the battery is at 100%. Two separate occasions Sep-Dec 2023 Haleakala Solar came out and attempted repairs. Throughout this time I reported approximately 20 to 30 emails with screenshots documenting issue and that issue was still occurring I contacted battery bonus program to see if this could be an issue. And also to cancel the installation of program since Haleakala Solar never provided HECO proper documentation for HECO to validate data.. I had to fill out a form send it in to get this program canceled since Haleakala Solar wouldn't. In December President Jim Whitcomb during phone call even admitted that Haleakala failed on their part getting the battery bonus program working and lack of service he assured me they would get it working. I asked Haleakala Solar several times could this issue be related to Battery program that was never successfully hooked up and I was assuring no. Contacted Tesla after several long 15 to 20 minute phone calls with them plus numerous emails documenting issue back and forth. As of early December it's in Tesla Tier two tech support and their recommendation December 24, 2023 was "Further your advanced settings need to be changed to export everything as opposed to solar only. Please go to settings, powerwall scroll down to advanced settings, permission to export to change the setting. Which I emailed to Haleakala Solar and they never came out to try. In late December conference call with Jim Whitcomb president and Mokihana Techical Lead at Haleakala Solar sent him screenshots of issue. Mokihana guessed it was low internet signal and they were to install a booster. I sent him Tesla's recommendation. They never came out to try either fix. From December to Feb to sent emails to Haleakala Solar documenting issue still occurring. And my new strategy was to find another solar company and bill Haleakala for its repair. Several companies didn't want to get involved in another's mess. 2/14/24 Filed BBB complaint which they said responded "We are working on finding a solution to what is happening with the battery at Mr. Taylors house. I will contact out head electrician and the owner and see when the soonest we can get out there will be. " 2/23/24 Filed compliant with State of Hawaii DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE AND CONSUMER AFFAIRS 3/1/24 Sent Haleakala Solar a registered letter including a demand to repair within 14 days or face legal action for breach of warranty. Needless to say I'm sure when this is resolved I will never get any help from Haleakala Solar on any warranty service. Its worth it though letting everyone know our experience with Haleakala Solar's unbelievably poor service.
