She had someone in the chair she was finishing, so I was like great. We can transition. When I walked in no one greeted me. After 10 minutes she asked me if I had an appointment. Instead of me going next she put a child in the chair. Then proceeded to have someone wash my hair. That person did a horrible job. I was placed under the dryer, which I questioned because I normally have my retwist on wet hair. I was told she does that. I said ok since the child had less than 50 locs I assumed it would not take long. At 6:15pm I took myself up from under the dryer. I then saw she was still working on the child's hair. At 7pm she was not ready for me. I met someone else waiting who had a 6pm appointment. We were both pissed. I left with dry hair with product still on my hair. Very disappointed with my 1st experience. I will not go back.

Whenever I come visit home, I always try to sneak in and get my hair done here. I was surprised as they said they could take me now however I had a few things in the car that needed to go to the house so I was told to come back at 5:30 and they would take care of me. I came back at 5:30 and it's like the whole vibe was different. Now I'm very aware that these are students, however they are learning to become professionals and therefore you expect professionalism at its best. Sadly, that's not what I got. The students talking amongst themselves with topics that are inappropriate, cussing at each other, eating and drinking at stations . . . However the one that almost had me get up and leave was a roller hit the floor and another student picked it up and acted like she was going to roll my hair with that roller. I had too much product used in my hair - which we discussed prior to starting about - and it would have been nice to be given a towel to put on the back of my neck as the dryer setting was set high in attempts to dry my hair. My hair wasn't completely dry when I left so ultimately the curls didn't hold, but morning you couldn't even tell I had my hair done. Also, if they are talking about other clients in front of me, I know they are talking about me in front of other clients, but once again, this goes back to professionalism or in this case lack of.

I walked in a strawberry blonde and walked out with blotches and stripes of red, green, ash and brown. I have to say the girls were very sweet and worked hard to get it right. The problem was the man instructing them. He handled all the dye mixes. Even when the girls and I knew the process has gone wrong, he kept insisting it was just some red in my scalp. I held up strands of my hair with a red blotch at the root, a streak of bleached blonde, and another of copper, and told him that's not scalp. I should have walked out then. Instead I let him mix up two more batches of dye, one to tone down the red splotches and another to tone down the bleachy streaks. You can see the result. The girl next to me fared no better. She kept saying how bright yellow her hair was and asking if it would darken up. The whole thing was a horrifying experience made worse by the condescending and arrogant instructor. If he had even once acknowledged there was a problem, I would have thought it was a fluke mistake. But he kept saying it was fine and that it would tone down after a couple of washings. The girls in the shop knew better. I had strands of hair with hard verticals stripes of colors not found in nature. There was nothing soft and subtle about it. I knew they felt terrible, but it was really out of their hands. I asked one of them if they would walk in to a job interview with this hair ( I have one scheduled), and she sadly shook her head. I hope my experience helps prevent others from making the same mistake. I was betting on the five star reviews, and learned the hard way. Tomorrow I go to a professional design studio to see if they can do anything to repair the damage.

She did a fantastic job with the color--my grays were completely covered and the shine was beautiful! She placed me under the dryer and had to step away for another client. That's when someone else stepped in... and let's just say, it went downhill from there. Unfortunately, the second stylist didn't have the right tools, the technique, or the attention to detail that textured hair requires. As a fellow woman of color, I expected more care--but instead, I was about to leave the salon with my hair barely blow dried. That's a disaster waiting to happen if you plan on pressing or styling afterward.Thank goodness Niya came back just in time! She immediately noticed it wasn't done right, jumped back in without hesitation, and re-did the entire blow dry. And when I tell you she did it RIGHT... smooth, soft, and fully prepped like it should be. That's the kind of skill and integrity you don't always find in a student salon.She's got an amazing eye for detail, a gentle touch, and a true passion for making sure you walk out confident. It's nice enough.. not plush but it's a beauty school so I wasn't expecting it to be. I wasn't too pleased with the check out person...she quickly told me there were too many students for her to know the name of my person. The school is not that big.
