I went here for the first time last night to try the women's kickboxing class…read more This place is mainly a martial arts center with lots of classes for kids, but they have some selections for adults. The first class was free. I heard it was about $60 a month for unlimited classes. The inside is kind of grubby. I kept thinking about how they should repaint their ceiling, redecorate, and give everything a once over with Simple Green while I was doing sit-ups. The class was pretty full and had a wide range of ages and fitness levels in attendance so it wasn't as intimidating as I thought kickboxing would be. The people and instructors were nice. Really loud club music plays in the background on a sub-par sound system during the "toning" portion of the class that includes stretches and lunges and sit-ups and whatnot. The instructor was sort of drowned out by the music so I had trouble hearing what she said. No one seemed to be in sync either so I got the feeling that form wasn't a real priority. Or maybe everyone else had trouble hearing the instructor, too? The kickboxing portion of the class involves finding a partner and switching off kicking and punching pads, but I heard that they switch it up a lot so a different day might have a totally different feel.

When I started the instructors do not push you too hard, form is not that important as long as you are doing your best. Bikram Sonoma is a yoga studio that not only is a place to practice hot yoga but also has a loving…read morecommunity. I have been going consistently for over 4 months. This is the first time I have been at a studio where fellow practicing yogis were extremely kind and welcoming. Teachers yes, but not fellow students. It has meant a lot to me since I am a new transplant in the area. Everyone is genuine and helpful. There are long time Bikram yogis at this studio which helps ground the room and focus. Fresh flowers are even brought in by students to honor the space. Massage is also offered here! I have seen people take a class and finish it off with a scheduled massage -- that is now on my to do list. If you are a tourist/traveler, and stopping into the studio to do your practice while away, they will have you feeling relaxed and eager to practice there. I benefit from each yoga instructor and also enjoy the traveling yoga teachers that arrive from all parts of the world. Each yoga teacher has given me an adjustment or educated me about a pose to help my practice transform. Other important observations: the studio is easily accessible, lots of parking, showers work well and everything is very clean. Areas of improvement because life is a process: The quiet room could be more quiet. A few people are forgetting to leave the outside world behind when they enter the quiet room at the beginning of class. Another thing to consider-- Sonoma is a smaller community, so I understand the difficulty in having many different time slots, but often I am not able to go to a class because it starts too late in the morning or not late enough in the afternoon/evening. Work or other weekend commitments sit right in the middle and I miss a class because of overlapping times. For example, I would attend the new yin yoga class but sadly the time slot is too early for my scheduling. Great changes are always in the midst at this studio like surprise instructors arriving, adding more variety with new classes, improving the heating system, and having cool lavender towels after class. I love the Hot Pilates so much, and 20 & 2, but I am really enjoying the newer (to us) Radiant Power Flow Class Elias teaches (for now they are Thursday at 9). He is an exceptional instructor and the class is unique. I work as hard and sweat as much as in 26& 2, but in only one hour with less heat. All classes are great, there is something for everyone and the variety is essential!
